Ok I mainly checked into these places because as weird as this sounds, truck stops on long ass trips are somehow homey to me.
You walk in and see all kinds of people! They have almost everything you need especially stuff to make you happy after hours and hours on the road with one of the hardest people to travel with lol.
I loved them this time (again) because on my last cross country road trip, I decided to buy magnets in every state we stopped in. I started it late and started in Wyoming last time.
This time, I started in Georgia. I basically got the same state magnets hahahaha, with the exception of a few new ones.
This place was FANTASTIC! Right away I was like OMG I love the vintage look! I am a huge fan of historical places or places like this that was built in the 70s of 80s and has never changed lol. I could be wrong but the 80s vibes were so strong with this one.
The place was, Ima say this in my Bette Davis voice (totally just gave myself away lol) but one of her famous lines "WHATA. DUMP!"
Because it was kinda lol. It was so old. Did this bother me? Hell no! Not to mention it had PROBABLY the best souvenir section. They had an entire little area carved out for all kinds of kitschy shit and several state souvenirs to choose from. They didn't have the state I was in tho. BOOOO! Then again, this was a common occurrence in many truck stops unfortunately.
I did buy magnets for states that I was either already in and couldn't find them while there or states I was headed to lol. I'm such an old woman hahaha!
Bottom line, this place was awesome. If they had 80s and 90s music playing it would have been the best truck stop ever hahaha!
The staff was fantastic too. I asked for help from one girl and she was like "I should t suggest this but try...." and I was like ..why say it like that? She's like...because fn hate that place, I used to work there and ugh omg..."
Right away I was like..:LOVVVVE this person! Haha!
I added the pics to show you the vintage looks. Nostalgia is big with me. Probably because the current state of the world/country is so depressing.
So visiting places like this takes you back to an easier time in life if just for only like 10-15 mins.
Not sure what else to say. It's a truck stop lol. If you're traveling through the Midwest, chances are you will stop here or see and be like..."hmm, looks rundown, let's go to the next one. Let's go to LOVES! Of Flying J!"
Sure those are ok, they're everrryhwhere but places like this, ones that have survived the equivalent to the way Walmart took over, (LOVES and Flying J being the Walmart's for those who couldn't catch on lol) but for places like this that have survived a corporate takeover in TruckstopLandia, are the places that should be visited. Who cares that they are vintage, and 'lived in'
That's what makes them so much better! Plus you get to get help from employees that are REAL people! The best kind!
Safe Travels, Yelpinnies!
