Absolute nightmare, drunks, loud music, dirty facilities, families with children living there, teens and adults using profanity loudly, unsupervised children. Uncaring staff, and our cooler was stolen. The previous negative are accurate 100%.
Our horror story. We selected this campground randomly, when we arrived all seemed nice, very nice entrance, the office was nice though cluttered with nick knacks and general thrift store objects, nothing of interest to anyone as apparent from the dust. The person who tended to us was generally nice, we had a site near a boat launch and main road with a bridge that local traffic crosses. People next to us were from Vermont, we asked how they liked it, they said they would never come back. We asked why, they said with a chuckle "you'll find out ", explaining how poor the place is managed, the colorful clientele, and about not leaving our belongings out at night.
Day 1, we set up camp and left to visit family who live at Verona Beach. Around 9pm my wife and I returned and started a campfire, we'll this is where things got interested, there were teens under that bridge cursing, smashing bottles, and talking about drugs, children walking around smoking cigarettes more profanity loudly along with sexual conversations. We notice one of the workers driving around on a green john deere gator atv, we inform him of the situation, he lets us know he will handle it (appeared drunk), we thought this was amusing.
From here my wife and I decided to explore the park, we'll this was an enlightening nightmare, we spotted the worker in the john deere, apparently he was handling the situation we brought to his attention by drinking beer at a seasonal campsite near a fire pit made of cinder blocks, accompanied by more loud drunks spewing profanity. We'll that was amusing and me and my wife chuckled with disbelief. The bathroom, we'll it's true they are no better than a State Fair outhouse, hold your breath, it's outdated, rundown, I don't understand how parents allow their
children to walk in there bearfoot, the smell of urine was overwhelming.
Some sections of the campground areas were nice, but much of it look like a refugee camp, contraptions built on, sheds, decks that appeared to be made of scrap pallet wood on cinder blocks . It was very apparent that families with children were living here out of necessity.
When we returned to our site nothing changed, we sat near the campfire only to hear the sounds of the green john deer atv driving around full speed, children yelling, profanity. There was even music across the road, across the river with 2 campers and the traditional cinder block fireplace, drunks profanity, music, abundant noise.
Someone yelling in the park at their kids at 2am!!! 2am looking for their kids!! We finally got some sleep around 2am ish.
Day #2, Our outside igloo cooler was stolen, had cold cuts and juices, beer in it. The thieves were kind enough to leave our cold cuts behind on the ground, but me and my wife declined to consume them. As for birds in the morning, not on your life, the sounds of traffic, children, people going to work we found out. Yes people were living here with children, it was an absolute nightmare, more profanity, clanking, etc. We headed out to Sylvan Beach to get some breakfast and escape, meet up with family then returned to the campground. More children riding bicycles barefoot all around the park, no helmets, no parents in sight, me and my wife uneasy this time, asking each other what we got ourselves into. We thought this must be what happens when the world economy falls, it was like a bad movie, that we were witnessing live. We couldn't shake that this was real. We informed the office about our stay but they seemed to care less.
Day #3 we couldn't take it anymore, the drunks, staff , obnoxious seasonal, noise, We just counted our blessings and left to Verona beach state park , forfeiting the rest of our stay we paid for.
Absolutely do not Recommend. read more
