It's a relatively small shop, but they have a very good concentration of lady's clothes, accessories and home ware. It's all very tasteful, pastel colours and 'homemade' looking items that all seem rather characterful. I bought my mum two white cushions, slightly embroidered cushions. I also picked up a pair of earrings that had been reduced to £6. For solving my birthday crisis, I can't really say a bad word against Altjeringa.

The reason I like this place is the expert behind the counter, who mends things skilfully (sometimes while you wait), and peruses things through a jeweller's glass as you browse, giving the whole place an air of Dickensian authenticity. He won't blink were you to take him an intricate old pocket watch, for example - he can put his hands instantly on the correct tools, and clearly has the knowhow to deal with pretty much anything you might need fixing. I took in a bracelet for a friend once in which the filigree clasp was the focus of the design, and had fallen off at a gig and been trampled on by a succession of excitable sixteen year olds before being rescued. He merely whipped out a succession of miniscule needle nosed pliers and almost by magic, restored it to perfect working order. He didn't even charge. He felt it was too easy. Altogether then, it's probably not worth the visit for the stock alone, but it would be an excellent choice for restoration and repairs.

As an adult I understand the appeal now and love the Brighton car boot. I have only made it down to the marina location once (it's a bit far out for a post Saturday night venture), but it's good to see that it is still as busy as when it was situated at the station car park. I would recommend getting their as early as possible if you want to pick up the best bargains, but you will certainly find enough on display to keep you busy no matter what time you arrive. being Brighton, you also get a lot of craft stalls with local budding individuals selling their wares and I have bought a number of nice pieces of jewelry over the years. As mentioned, there are also opportunistic food vendors dotted about, so you can grab a bite whilst you wander about. In the days of EBay and electronic shopping, it's great to still see a more traditional way of selling stuff going on. If you fancy yourself as a barterer, then don't be scared to try your luck, especially later in the day when sales are wrapping up. Certainly a great spot to pick up a bargain, or something bizarre.

Open from 7am-2pm every Sunday, it's an absolute must for bargain hunters, browsers and vintage freaks. There's dozens of stalls and tables selling everything from modern and retro clothes to old books, records, CDs, lamps, chairs, tables, desks, bikes and bric a brac. Some of it is pure tat but look closely and you'll see some real gems too. I've bought all kinds of weird and wonderful things from here from 70s fruit bowls and glasses to a French style table and chairs. The latter cost £40 including free delivery from the stall holder so was a big scoop! In summer, it's heaving so get there early. In winter, take a brolly and be prepared for occasional showers between browsing!

I'm guessing it's called rehab because you are 'rehabilitating' second hand clothes by wearing them again? Having been into Reload, another 'dress agency' where they were selling old Topshop cardies for upwards of £20, I was suspicious of the Rehab stock. Most of the items seemed to be priced between £40 and £60. I would feel a bit put off about paying that amount of money for second hand clothing, however my mum assured me that the labels they were selling were worth a lot more than that. There was a Betty Jackson dress for £60, and a lovely Ciel flower print dress with capped sleeves in the window. The lady in the shop was also very friendly and helpful. Rehab has gone some way towards 'rehabilitating' my opinion of dress agency shops.

Despite its small size, Penelope's Portmanteau is absolutely crammed with stunning broaches, costume jewellery, handbags and designer vintage gowns all laid out beautifully. With a wide range of prices, you can treat yourself to a bargain of around a fiver or splurge hundreds of pounds on one-of-a-kind designer pieces: last year, they sold off a stunning collection of Vintage Elizabeth Emanuel Couture Gowns. Fantastic for browsing and amazing for accessorising, a visit to this place comes very highly recommended for anyone who's even remotely interested in the world of fashion.
