Lines move fairly quickly when most people act like it's not their first day on earth, and you rarely have to take out your electronics and put them in separate bins. I had the experience of taking the Sky Train to my assigned terminal recently, and it was super easy to go from the valley metro rail stop to the sky train stop (just go up the escalator that very obviously says To Sky Train). Saves me a lot of money by not needing to use rideshare anymore. The food options are pretty random - not as many chains as other airports - but I appreciate the chick fil a every now and then. For their Starbucks, I highly reccommend using the order ahead feature so that you don't have to wait in line - it's almost always long.

Now, I know it is not Atlanta because Atlanta is in a league of its own, but Phoenix is no joke either. This airport is not for the weak, so be prepared to walk! Your airline may use gates in different concourses, so you could land near Gate A2 and have to walk all the way to B26. Thankfully, they have moving walkways, but it can still be quite a hike. There are tons of restaurants and shops throughout the airport, but like most airports, the prices will rob you blind! That is why I always say BYOFS, bring your own food and snacks! Of course, liquids are restricted through security, so I also bring an empty reusable water bottle and fill it at one of the water stations after I get through TSA. That can save you some money because these airport prices are ridiculous. If you have a long travel day, TSA generally allows completely frozen drinks through security, but they must still be completely frozen when inspected, not melted or slushy. I have done it many times, but always check the current rules before traveling. The airport does have employees and transportation assistance available if you need help getting to your gate, which is a plus. However, I have noticed that many airport gate areas seem to be getting smaller, with everyone packed together while waiting to board. If you have to connect through Phoenix, give yourself plenty of time. I would not recommend booking a short layover at an airport this large because you may not reach your next gate in time. Personally, I would want a layover of at least two hours so I would not have to run through the airport or worry about missing my flight. Phoenix Sky Harbor will get you where you need to go, but wear comfortable shoes, bring your own snacks, and be prepared to WALK!

If you are considering basing your single engine aircraft here, you are better off basing it at phoenix deer Valley airport for cost effectiveness.

Both times, we flew Southwest and ended up at the exact same gates, so we got a pretty consistent experience. The gates were in a convenient location, especially since they were close to the restrooms. There were also plenty of food options nearby, which is always nice when you have time to kill before a flight. I noticed information booths throughout the airport where you could ask questions and get help figuring out where you needed to go, which would be especially helpful if you're unfamiliar with the airport. Pickup was a little confusing outside. Our friend who was picking us up accidentally ended up on the Uber side instead of the area where she was supposed to meet us. Thankfully, it wasn't particularly busy, so it wasn't a huge issue, but I could see it being more frustrating during a busy time. One downside was that the chairs at our gates didn't have charging ports, which would have been nice while we were waiting to board. That seems like such a small thing, but when you're traveling, having somewhere to charge your phone can make a big difference. Overall, Phoenix Sky Harbor was a clean airport with plenty of food options and helpful resources throughout. We had a pretty easy experience both times, and since we were flying Southwest, we found our way around without too much trouble.

Needless to say it wasn't welcoming at all. But wow, what a transformation. I love the openness of this terminal and all of the windows. I feel like no matter where you're at in this terminal you can always see planes coming and going and the sunshine. It's definitely very clean. From the seating areas to the restrooms this terminal is well kept. Thank you sky Harbor airport for the beautiful terminal three we now have.

There are also only a handful of restaurants, but honestly, those are minor inconveniences compared to all the benefits. This is bigger and a little roomier with larger overhead bins that you stand your carry-on upright not laying down. The only problem is that if you have an aisle seat you are constantly being hit every time someone walks by as the aisles are now smaller. They did ask for volunteers to check bags for free as it was a full flight, which some people did do. They served us a package of Remy's Grahams Cinnamon Crackers and Stellar Mini Pretzel Braids as snacks. They do have an array of free and hot beverages as well as beverages for purchases. The flight was very peaceful. Our only complaint was the plane was freezing cold and even though we asked several times if they could turn the heat on, it remained cold for entire flight. Note to passengers, bring a sweater or blanket to keep warm. The pilots did a skillful job on take-off and landing.

Two people deplaned. Sat for another 20 mins. Next announcement: we will not be able to meet connecting flight to SFO, same same. 3 of us got up and went to the front. I was told the crew onboard is flying to San Jose from PHX and I could get on that flight if I chose to stay on the plane and go to PHX. I walked out to the gate and told rep I would like to be rebooked to San Jose from PHX. I was told no problem, just let them know in PHX when plane lands. Plane lands in PHX and the flight to San Jose is full, too bad. They book me on a very late flight to OAK. I go and wait by the San Jose bound gate and hear that a passenger has not shown up for flight to San Jose. The rep at the gate says there is a seat, go over to the desk and get rebooked. I do and am told they just gave the seat to a man who came after me! They actually said it was my fault because I went to the gate, I should have been at the desk. I have been a loyal customer of SW and fly them at least twice a month and am A lister. They could care less. I need to find a new airline.

All the staff have a warming small town vibe and it's always relaxed and a pleasure to fly through this airport. I'm used to LAX so this is just a treat!

We were disabled on the runway and their ramp team, under the leadership of Greg, was extremely helpful. Never once was safety compromised while they coordinated with airfield operations to secure and tug our disabled aircraft off the runway. Once safely off the runway, they assisted us in finding a maintenance company and the right parts to get airborne again. We were back flying within five hours of the incident! This never happens. The people at Swift were amazing hosts and customer service was nothing less than first class. Care, concern and decisive leadership set them apart...thank you!!!
