If you've flown Southwest Airlines lately, you know they've changed their seating system. I thought I'd hate it but honestly, I like it. The newer planes have phone plugs in the seat in front. Flight attendants are great too. I think they charge way too much to fly to phoenix though especially since it's such a short flight.

Flew Southwest Airlines from Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) to Buffalo (BUF). I've flown Southwest for years and generally appreciate the efficient boarding process, friendly crews, and overall no-nonsense experience. That said, open seating has always been the weak link for me. On this particular flight, service was noticeably lacking. A flight attendant remained seated for an unusually long stretch, with little visibility or engagement, which stood out given Southwest's typically attentive service culture. It was surprising and disappointing, especially since this has not been my usual experience with the airline. Overall, Southwest remains a solid, mid-level carrier that gets you where you're going without frills. I'm genuinely looking forward to the introduction of assigned seating in 2026 -- a long-overdue and very welcome upgrade. Saluti.

Southwest's waiting area was pretty packed with passengers waiting to board! Loved that phone charging ports under seats were available!!! Gate D12 sign had a blue LED light !9

(Traveled 05/23/25 FR @ 8:49pm): Sometimes you wanna get away from the southwest at great prices... but in this case I remained in the southwest! I recently flew roundtrip with Southwest Airlines as I returned from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport PHX but originated from Hollywood Burbank Airport BUR. They had been my favorite domestic carrier for years (I wished they flew internationally!) until Alaska Airlines dethroned them. Southwest Airlines cornered the southwest and west coast air traffic markets, respectively. Did this airline still rule the southwest skies!? PURCHASE Roundtrip Wanna-Get-Away Airfare ($207.95): Nowadays, I booked one-way flights because I usually had more flexibility when I needed to return. However, I had a definite travel window on this recent vacation/business trip, so it made sense for the roundtrip option. Since I booked the flight three months before its departure, I felt this fare was fairly reasonable (an average $104.00 each way) for domestic air travel during the medium season (I traveled right before the Memorial holiday weekend). On an evening direct flight that arrived in Burbank just after 10:00pm the same day, it was all good. Checked Luggage - 2 Pieces Allowed (FREE; N/A this instance): I traveled very light especially for a quick trip such as this, so I only had a carry-on and backpack. As of this review, Southwest Airlines has since started charging for checked luggage as all airlines did. FLIGHT EXPERIENCE ~Check-in: I checked-in online 24-hours prior (Group B Position 08!), had my QR code boarding pass on their app, and traveled with only a carry-on and backpack, so I was ready to go! I had Global Entry & TSA PreCheck, so my time with security checkpoints and the necessary TSA pleasantries was efficient and minimal. When it was time, passengers were queued-up in order of their boarding group and number (i.e. A/B/C and 1/2/3, etc.). Sadly, the flight was delayed nearly 45 minutes. Once we finally left, the flight felt like it arrived shortly after it departed. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=d4_y3ObS9PQ2j-4alacT1w ~Seats: It was the same sardine can like all airplanes these days. On Southwest Airlines, seat selection was first-come first-served. I always favored the back of the plane close to the restroom and snacks. I was able to snag my usual window seat - yes! ~In-flight Meals (Varied; FREE this instance): I opted for my normal Seagram's Ginger Ale https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=ahPKymOWM0HVQEioXjuNow and one of the usual pretzel snacks https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=2eunI_HpOzModY1Bgem9Sw on Southwest Airlines that I loved. ~Lavatory: I did my business at the terminal before we left, so I had no idea of the condition of the restroom closest to me. ~Service & Amenities: All uniformly-dressed flight attendants were adequate and spoke perfect English. None of the seats had video monitors for movie/show watching, music listening, and games playing. The seats themselves were roomy enough. No blankets, headphones, or pillows were provided. The drink/snack cart rolled out shortly after the plane leveled off after takeoff. There were no carry-on baggage fees. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) I was dropping off a rental car at the airport, so no parking was involved. However, the airport offered onsite parking structures and surrounding lots with rates that started as low as $6.00 based upon your decision. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE I passed through the security checkpoint https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=X4Qsxc1aNn-OhREMlatNKw at Terminal 4 and headed towards Gate C11 where the waiting area was spacious enough, several long rows of seats, and a modern appeal. There were sufficient places to sit throughout the terminal. Plenty of natural lighting came in through the large windows that looked out to the tarmac while a ton of electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. Once on the airplane (I forgot to note the type of plane), it seemed like any other. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. I liked to be unencumbered and unfettered, so the least amount of clothing, especially while I traveled through an airport, the better! OVERALL My roundtrip flight on Southwest Airlines returning from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport PHX was fine and got me back to Burbank safely which truthfully was all that mattered to me on any domestic flights. I wished there were seat video monitors that helped pass the time. In any case, I'd fly and recommend them again. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $208.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Southwest Airlines is our go to choice when traveling. Always easy straightforward with cost or fees and love that they include 1 checked bag per flyer. (50lbs or less) We took flights from Phoenix Sky Harbor out to Dallas then to Myrtle beach and also flew with them back from our trip and stopped in Chicago. The 737 is pretty spacious compared to AA and I had one carry on that was stowed above in the overhead compartment and my backpack fit comfortably under the seat in front. I really appreciated that they have usb and usb-c charging ports on the chairs to ensure I had full charge while enjoying their free in flight entertainment/ movies. The flight crew was very kind and attentive with a smile on each journey. I really like the snacks and drinks provided. Can't wait to see where we will go on our next trip with Southwest!

l like southwest airlines mostly because you are able to cancel and save the credit toward new flights when you have a change of plans. The flight attendants are nice and helpful. Recently I had a late flight returning to phoenix on different carrier. I decided to use my credit and booked on southwest that got me back 5 hours earlier. I'm grateful since I had work the next day. I'm disappointed that free checked luggage is ending at the end of May. Perhaps the sales price may offset the extra fees. Added pic of snacks given during flight.

Southwest and Delta have been my go-to airlines for years. I personally have not had any serious issues with Southwest in my many years of flying. If I did encounter any, they were only miniscule things. Terminal 4 is the hub for Southwest Airlines at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. I do enjoy flying out of that terminal because I like the restaurants and the extra space and amenities that they have recently added. I am one of those people that still arrives two hours before my flight. This is so I do not run into issues like long security check point lines. Plus, I don't mind sitting at the airport and grabbing a coffee or some food while I wait for my flight. For me personally, the customer service has mostly been good on Southwest Airlines. I am not the biggest fan of how they do their seating assignments and would prefer to pick my seat ahead of time when booking a flight. I normally just pay the extra fee to get into group A seating. I like that I can connect and watch movies on my flights and that carry-on luggage is still free. Sadly after fifty years, Southwest Airlines' two checked bags-fly-free policy officially ends in 2025. So even Southwest is giving into the pressure of our ever-changing world. Hopefully, they can keep decent service and reliable flight times.

Southwest post a 75% on-time performance has to be fake! No way, maybe 50%. I'm always late due to their terrible service....frustrating!

I've had my good and bad experiences flying with them as a card holder. My understanding of what this company was growing up and how I was treated as customer "back in the day" has changed tremendously since then. The friendly skies, the "on time machine" and "something special in the air" is a far cry from what it was then. They've failed on almost every level of the things they upheld so vigorously during the 80's. "Doing what we do best" isn't what we get nowadays. It's the sign of the times I guess, but honestly such a shame too! You're paying a high premium and having to do most of the work yourself when entering the airport. Staff is simply there to socialize amongst one another & if you have questions or need guidance they seemed more bothered by that, that you've interrupted their conversations. The on board staff is just going through the motions without any type of respectful greeting, personalities are as dull as a butter knife, zero friendliness and lack of appreciation of their passengers. As a valued member, I will continue to hope for the best, but will always be prepared for the unknown and what my experience has been lately versus what my expectations are moving forward with this airline.

I usually like to sit in row 32,33, or 34. I find that I have a good possibility of having the row to myself. Not always , but it does happen often. Sky Harbor is a very easy airport to get in and out. Terminal 4 is the American Airline hub. I do have to say , the attendances on the flight were not as friendly as Delta's attendances. So much said for that . I do fly American often and also Delta. The gate areas do have a variety of charging stations. Some gates more stations than others.
