I wanted to try something different from the AZ Mexican food I am used to. This was a great choice. The Pirata with steak was delicious and very filling. I also had the Al Pastor, the pork was very tender and the flavor was amazing. I added avocado to it, which added that much more flavor. I would love to come back and try other options. How have I never heard of Taco Palenque before? I was in Laredo on a business trip when a co-worker suggested Taco Palenque. I love Mexican food, so I was on-board. The meat was well-seasoned and full of flavor. The meat was tender and not full of gristle and fat. The tortillas were fresh and very tasty, in fact all the condiments, rice, salsa, pico de gallo, and guacamole were all made fresh. I wolfed down the meal and helped myself to the salsa bar. The food reminds me of the type of mexican food I would find in Southern California and my few trips south of the border. The restaurant was clean and is on par with an older fast-food restaurant motiff. It helps if you speak a little spanish, as they call out your order number in spanish and once you get above 10....I'm lost. I will definitely stop in Taco Palenque again when the opportunity arises. read more

This place is AWESOME! I actually measure all taco stands I go to in Austin against this one. The condiments/salsa bar is out of this world, and you can find anything you need to complement your taco, and for me, I usually get a chicken flour taco with salsa verde, cilantro, onions, and a slice of lime. A Corona goes with that so beautifully. I talk about Taco Palenque all the time to anyone that'll listen to me, which is usually my poor fiance. You cannot go wrong with TP! Sure this place is a franchise but man is this food good! I feel weird trying to recommend something off the menu when everything is oh so good. If you need any indication of how good this place is just look at their success growing their business all over south Texas. Enjoy some fresh salsa and warm tortillas. After having tried them in Brownsville, I was happy to find out that my friend Donato R. agreed when with me when I asked him if this place was good? We were off to the ranch to do some hunting and drinking and when we pulled in I grabbed a few tacos adobado (**** stars) tacos fajita (**** stars) and taco piratas (**** stars) I ran in and grabbed chiles, salsa and chips. While the wait was long because the girl in front of me ordered over $100.00 of tacos I didn't mind as I was able to eat up on the free chips and salsa bar. Even though the food was AMAZING, I dropped a star because I did not get the extra tortillas like I did down in Laredo. But don't let that keep you from enjoying some great food. As for the comment above where Patrick H. compares them to Jack in the Box. Being a CA native I can tell you that very few CA restaurants actually have the selection that I have seen here. And they definitely dont have the grade and cuts of beef that they offer here. But then again his name is Patrick... Made a stop while on a business trip in Texas. Best Mexican fare I have had! We don't get too many authentic Mexican restaurants here in Atlanta, let alone up in Michigan. We were a bit overwhelmed when ordering, but ended up pleasantly surprised. I would generally order the Sirloin or Adobada tacos. This is the only reason to visit Laredo and the rest of the valley. This place is just amazing. Depending on when you come, grab a breakfast taco, pirata, or a fajita plate. Next stop by the amazing salsa bar, fully stocked with fresh toppings for all your cravings. Lastly, don't forget to get the chips -- you won't find any better anywhere else. This place is also 24/7 with internet, meaning its a great place to hang out at night after getting drunk. God I wish they would replace all Taco Bells with these. In South Texas if you want fast and good Mexican food it's Taco Palenque. The food is always delicious. If you eat in the restaurant all that I have visited are clean and they offer free chips and a variety of salsas. The only problem many seem to have is that the prices seem a bit much when ordering a taco; however, the tacos are always stuffed! read more

This place is simply Mexican fast-food, and due to such, the food was far from being sophisticated. Worst of all, both Sirloin Taco and Breakfast Taco that I ordered turned out rather greasy. I made it a point to check out the salsa stand, and it looked just like any that we have in California - there wasn't any that looked different, and the four that I tried didn't taste all that great. The food is good, but the cleanliness is appalling. There was food all over the floor, rice all over the booth where you sit and just too crowded with loud, overly FAT, obnoxious kids that weren't being controlled by the parents. Some of the best fast food you will ever put in your mouth. Super legit salsa bar and all-you-can-eat chips are already enough reason to come here. Super greasy and very good. This place has been a favorite since I've been in Laredo. Although, the food tends to be on the greasey side it is filled with flavor. Well at least the Laredo chain. I visited one in San Antonio and it just didn't have that deep south Texas aroma as we entered. Even there salsa bar was missing that heat and taste that the Laredo chains offer. A great place for good breakfast burritos. Yes, it's a chain but the food is fresh and not pre-prepared. The tortillas, whether you go with corn or flour taste fresh. The machacado and egg and the chorizo and egg are my favorites. Be sure to load up on the salsa bar too. And don't forget the jamaica to round out a quick and satisfying meal. If you don't know Spanish, be sure to at least brush up on your numbers before you go...otherwise you won't have a clue when your order is ready! read more

Great food but way overpriced. I asked what was the fajita for 2 and they told me 3/4 pound. that's not unreasonable except that when you pay $56 for 3/4 pound of beef, thats obscene. You can get Prime Beef Dry aged at a major steak house for that price. I'd love to see them be more reasonable with the price of their food because it is great. The taste is wonderful. We had lunch here for two days and the food choices were awesome. The tacos were so tasty. The meat is seasoned so well.
