Located on 50 Rose Street in Fitzroy, the store's close proximity to the Rose Street Artist Market is a boon to it's existence. Sharing a space with Mottanai Vintage Cycle keeps things interesting. Perusing vintage bikes while waiting for your meal puts an ironic spin on things, given that many people in India ride old and rusty bikes too. The furniture is albeit low, but well put together. Old milk crates double up as tables while short stools dot the space in abundance. My friend and I shared 2 Dosas, one filled with masala potatoes and the other filled with smokey eggplant. The crisp dough made of fermented rice and lentil batter had a hint of acidity to it. Also, there are lentil poppers which make for a good snack. That being said, the star of the show is the wide range of chutneys. I would recommend getting the hot chili one if you are not afraid of pain. At this price point ($9), these guys are over-providing. The treats are both vegan and gluten-free too. What are you waiting for?

For those not in the know dosas are very thin crepes traditionally filled with spiced potato. Overdosa's menu is simple offering potato masala, spiced pumpkin or eggplant filling. Your dosa also comes with either a coconut or hot chilli chutney. You can also order poppers which are delicious fried lentil balls. We had the potato masala and the poppers with coconut chutney. I'm no expert but my companion who is Indian rated them very highly. They are hot fast and delicious. He devoured the poppers so quickly I only managed a couple. All the options here are vegan and although I am a sworn carnivore I can say that it was so tasty it didn't matter. The guys are super friendly and really keen to hear what you think of their food and have a chat. They will be at the Evelyn on Brunswick st over Anzac weekend and then they fly to India to spend a few months collecting recipes to expand their offerings and possibly open a restaurant. If you are in the mood for Indian I highly recommend checking them out.

Reasonably priced and a great selection of products. If you ever want to prepare a meal, there's great selection.. Market city coffee was fantastic, bought some cheeses, and picked up a borek pastry. We shared a Turkish borek, porchetta panini fr Rubens, and a char siu meat pie fr Amelies. They have a ton of prepared food options like baked goods, sausages, fried chicken, ethnic food, charcuterie and raw seafood. First of all, the borek was a nice starter. It had a lot of fillings, and made me want to go to Turkey. On the other hand, the pie was a bit disappointing. It was bland and the crust wasn't flaky. Lastly, the porchetta was fantastic. The pork was really tender and nicely seasoned. The crackling on top was genius. Regarding the ambiance, the grounds are massive. The food hall has prepared food on both ends, and fresh meat & seafood in the middle. A lot of people come w/ carts. All of the vendors were super nice. We even bought some bread, charcuterie and marinated octopus for later. I highly recommend QVM if you visit Melbourne. They have something for everybody.

So far, the only burger that can make a contest out of Beatbox is Fergburger from Fergburger, Queenstown. Anyway, coming back to Beatbox, Thursday night has got to be up there in terms of the highlight of my week. There's literally a spring in my step after work, knowing that Beatbox's gonna be outside my apartment from 6pm. Can you think of anything that can top a beer from Mr Wilkinson and a juicy Ralph? I certainly can't. The only downside I can think of is the inexistence of seating due to Beatbox being a meals on wheels deal although Mr Wilkinson allows you to sit inside provided you buy a drink of course so overall a good deal.

The Beatbox Kitchen is meals on wheels taken to the heights of gourmet burgerdom. If you don't see the van first upon pulling up at the location, which you'd have to be a bit blind to miss seeing that it's a van-sized beatbox stereo, you'll see half the neighbourhood lazing around on the grass with bottles of beer and wine waiting for their burger order. The other half of the neighbourhood make up the very long queue leading up to the Beatbox van. What is everyone queueing up for, they're just burgers? Well, they're not JUST burgers. The grass-fed beef burger is the best $11 you'll ever spend on a meat burger, and likewise with the 'shroom burger for $10. There aren't any fancy fillings, just the usual cheese, tomato, cos lettuce, onion and stereo sauce - simple and perfectly balanced to showcase the fine quality and excellent flavour of the beef/portobello mushroom. The fries at $5 a serve with a range of sauces (mayo, tomato or spicy tomato relish or stereo sauce) are crispy and fresh. The only downside is the long, long, long queue and up to an hour wait for your burger, but come expecting the long wait - bring friends and drinks - and it's actually a really pleasant wait. I still give it 5 stars based solely on the quality and flavour of the burgers. Stay up-to-date with the Beatbox's whereabouts by following them on Twitter. They also tweet as soon as the burgers run out (usually by 8.30pm), so you'll know when to give up on the dream and find something else to eat until the following Friday.
