I was delighted with the menu and what I could try from it's various offerings. They advertise a spicy nuclear chili and also,delicious street tacos with pork, beef steak or yard bird (chicky). I ordered for my partner a veggie burrito and I ordered the street tacos along with chips and guacamole. Wow! After living in mexico for some time on assignment, I wondered if I would experience pork taco bliss - yup, I sure did. Not only were the tacos delicious; but, they were stuffed with pork in two awesome corn tortillas. The burrito veg was very spicy, but delicious and the guacamole was fresh and tasty accompanied with their fresh tortilla chips. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed! Adios!!

Trying out their newly built wood fire oven, the Al Carbon truck was serving up wood fired, slow roasted to perfection lamb tacos. Yes those same kind of tacos made famous by the previous incarnate La Lupita. Awesome freshly made corn tortillas and simple additions like purple cabbage and pickles. Respadas. It's a finely shaved Mexican snow cone. I've never tried anything like it. Chilli lime salt with agave syrup, Watermelon and Rose and Sweetened condensed milk. Very refreshing on a Summer's eve. Attila tells me this time around they are going Turkish. That's his real cooking passion. Slow roasted lamb, house made bread and tapas style sides, designed to be eaten by hand around a table with good friends. Something great is coming to the inner west. Watch this space.

I mean, an $18 steak sandwich? It was extremely nice though, and the serving size was more than enough, but it's not the sort of lunch I'd indulge in every day. The service was reasonable, with staff who are friendly and polite. Décor-wise, it's a fairly modern looking place, and it's neat. It has a nice atmosphere. For me, it's a place to go for a nice meal every once in awhile.

The atmosphere is mostly couples and young groups, but we did have a 4 year old in our dining party on last visit and they took good care of her. The staff were really accommodating and also offered a plain chicken-and-cheese quesadilla to avoid any tears over spicy food. I wouldn't suggest coming here with a whole hoard of children, but for the most part it's both adult and family friendly. All orders are taken at the counter, be it take away or dine-in. Getting a seat can be a little tricky in peak times as it's a walk-in restaurant unless you're booking for a large group. But the style of ordering makes it fairly fast turn over. They'd probably make a lot more money on booze if they did table service, but I guess it moves people through faster too. I find the cocktails a bit pricy, but the aqua frescas are larger, delicious, and can have booze added to them if you so desire. We were holding our breath, hoping for something authentic, something punchy. We'd heard they'd make their own tortillas. We hoped there would be tequila. Okay, so by "we" I just mean me - but it always sounds more powerful when there's an army of you, right? It finally opened and one evening I went hoping that all my Mexican dreams would come true. Yes, they make their own tortillas. Yes, the food has some flavour. No, there's no tequila (or any booze for that matter ). No, it's not especially authentic. But did I like it? Did it rock my socks off? Hrmm... the jury is still out. The pork taco had good flavour, with a smear of avo underneath and crunchy slaw on top. It could have used some sauce and had I paid better attention I would have seen that there were bottles of the stuff floating around. I'd love to see these on every table, but then I'm just a chilli fiend. The fish taco - small nuggets of white fish covered in what looked like polenta and fried - has some crunchy pickled carrot and onion on top. The pickles rocked, the fish not so much. I liked the fun vibe here. It's quick, reasonably priced and I think think they're on the right track with their take on mexican food. A few small tweaks (including getting a liquor license) and I think Fonda will be getting thumbs up from Richmond locals.

The lemon zest flavour leapt off my silver fork into my mouth on the first bite, combining with the sultry avocado and sliver of chicken which had some other-worldly seasoning that words cannot describe. Herbs, I suppose. Phase two began after I had depleted the bowl of avocado. Arrogantly I assumed that there were deeper layers of flavour to be found. Luckily I was right, lurking below the avocado lemon and chicken infantry was the commander of the dish - gloriously flavoured rice and some sort of leafy green, perhaps lettuce but my vision was beginning to cloud with ecstasy, and the summer light was failing. As I frantically shovelled the fork into my mouth, mechanically driving my arm up and down from bowl to face in a rapid manner, a single bead of sweat formed on the tip of my usually pristine nose. I ignored it. Phase three underway, I had began to sweat profusely, as an alternative reality of exotic dimensions enveloped me. Hours later I awoke as if from a coma, and realised that I had been scraping, to an extreme degree, at whatever molecules of food remained in my bowl. I had finished the meal almost instantly but in my satiated trance I had feverishly forked through the bowl, table, and begun to dig through the cement underneath my feet. Sheepishly I dusted the cement particles off my cheap mondays and glanced furtively around. Only the miniature ghost of Al Albero's Phoenix (see earlier review) was present - it perched on my shoulder and whispered "love is the answer", and then glided off above the food trucks into the night.
