Taco Vengo is our new go-to taco place in Kapitolyo. Carlo and my brother LURVE eating here! It's located inside a small compound; you'll see Nav and Longganisa Sorpresa at the entrance. Taco Vengo's tacos are not your typical steak, pork, or chicken choices. Where else can you get a Tempura taco with a Horchata? You can get both here and they do not scrimp on the ingredients! Since I've eaten here a few times already with Carlo, my favorite tacos are the BLT, Tempura Shrimp, and Grilled Salmon. I used to like the Pork Cheek Confit but, in my last 2 visits, the taco was just filled with FAT! It was too much for me to even swallow. So, I'm not sure if I want to order that again. :( For dessert, try their Chwaffle a la Mode! It's basically what will happen if a Churro and a Waffle have a baby. Fluffy yet crunchy, very good way to end the meal. For drinks, don't forget to try the Horchata! It's a rice drink with hints of vanilla and cinnamon. Love the stuff! :D read more

Craving some tacos?? Look no further! This is the place you've been searching for! Wedged within one of Kapitolyo's many food streets and alleys is this taco gem! With a teeny weeny sign among other teeny weeny signs as its only marker, it can be quite hard to find. But finding will definitely taste like success. The no-nonsense, all-cool set-up makes you feel like you are in Bangkok, stumbling upon your next best food find. The menu is no-nonsense, all-yum, making you feel like you have indeed stumbled upon your current best food find. Their mini tacos are loaded with flavor and are definitely the stars - the shrimp one is really good!!! - but feel free to get a burrito or a plate of nacho macho - nachos served with sous-vide eggs! A word of advice: wait for the food to settle in your tummy before deciding to order again because after devouring the mini tacos, your tongue will want to order on and on and on. Taco Vengo is one of two taco joints in Manila offering tacos in a traditional Mexican format. Instead of a crunchy yellow corn tortilla shell, or a large soft wheat tortilla, Taco Vengo and Tacos Chingones use small soft corn tortillas, as found in street carts across Mexico. Notice, however, how I said traditional format, and not traditional style. Where Tacos Chingones stays true to the taco's traditional roots, focusing mainly on simple grilled meat and little to no sauce, Taco Vengo takes cues from Filipino, Japanese and Chinese Cuisine in filling its tacos. Overall, and this is slightly blasphemous, by the smallest of margins, I prefer Taco Vengo's fusion fare. Authenticity be damned, it's about the taste! Taco Vengo's toppings include the following: 1. BLT-with only Bacon remaining, however. Lengua and Tripe take the place of veggies. 2. Pork Cheek Confit--this is, essentially, a sisig taco. 3. Steak with Orange Chipotle Rub 4. Honey Soy Chicken 5. Tempura Shrimp--with teriyaki sauce and japanese mayonnaise 6. Grilled Salmon--served with wasabi aioli. 7. Savory Mushroom Tofu 8. Asian Slaw Tofu OK. Let's be honest. there's not a lot of Mexican on this menu. Aside from the use of Tongue and Tripe, and a bit of Chipotle on the steak, the menu reads more like an Asian-style restaurant than anything. But it works. Really well. The key reason that there is complexity to these flavors. While I could break this down for each of the fillings, I'll limit it to the 2 standout flavors in my book--the Tempura Shrimp and the BLT. First, the Tempura Shrimp. The deep fried shrimp comes with some shredded cabbage, a sweet teriyaki sauce and japanese mayonnaise. While that seems logical enough, the interplay reaches new heights when wrapped in a slightly crunchy tortilla. The cabbage, tempura batter, and tortilla provide different levels of crunch. The sweetness and syrupy texture of the teriyaki is countered by the hint of wasabi and creaminess of the aioli. In the middle, the shrimp gives the taco needed body. Second, the BLT tackes on a different tack. Tongue is fatty and melts in your mouth. Tripe is chewy and a bit gamy. Bacon is salty and firm. While the Tempura Shrimp contrasts flavors, the BLT contrasts textures and different kinds of meatiness. I'll be sure to come back to try a burrito, a chwaffle, and the 7 layer dip (made of mongo). However, while a little pricey at P95 per taco, the taste is more than worth it. Go out and get it now. read more

Between Silantro, the establishment that anchored the whole Kapitolyo food craze, and El Hijo de Chupa, the more corporate son of Poblacion's Infamous El Chupacabra, Kapitolyo/Ortigas peeps are quite spoiled with tacos. Ordinarily, this should scare off potential competing taco joints, but Taco Vengo bravely steps to the plate. And yes, it's a most worthy adversary. Located inside a new food compound (the one with Nav, Uncle Mo's, and Longanisa Sorpresa outside), Taco Vengo will attack your taste buds with incredible flavor. I had a steak taco and a pork taco, and both were absolutely divine, simply bursting with flavor. It was stunning. Now Taco Vengo's tacos are slightly smaller than Silantro's and El Chups, and thus a bit trickier to eat. And some people may find the P100+ price per small taco a bit too much. However, I feel that Taco Vengo acquits itself by piling in more filling per taco. Besides, they taste incredible. read more

El taco de camarones era muy bueno Price was not bad compared to other street taco joints in the area. Still, pretty pricey for what you can get from LA. The shrimp taco won't disappoint. About P100 per taco. For drinks, I wanted to give their Rogue Dead Guy ale another try but they seem to have ran out. The maw-hee-toes were coo; wish the mint leaves weren't shredded as much though. Not bad for P80. You can try to park at the street behind it. There's an alley way that leads through the row of restos that now line that area up. The toilet is outside. They could use more as this place is sure to get packed once more people find it. *Update* Just tried their Chicken Salad. I'd say one of the best salad dishes here in Manila. The chicken has that honey glazed taste but complemented well by the vinegarette. Don't overdue the lime. Just a tad to give it some tang. @joesbrewph wasn't bad either. I've been here twice, once during their soft opening then again for a friend's birthday party. Both times, the whole experience did not disappoint at all!! The tacos are served in a soft corn tortilla and are absolutely worth how much they go for, between ₱110-₱160. The standouts for me included the dory fish taco, the pork cheek confit taco (complete with a chicharon!) and the honey soy chicken. They are extremely generous with their fillings and everything tasted so fresh. I've also had their chicken quesadilla (₱160). Served super warm, the quesadilla is piled chick with gooey, melty cheese and satisfyingly well seasoned chicken. They also have a pretty impressive collection of craft beers available for purchase with your drink. I love how they have so many local craft beers available too. Their kitchen is also a work of magic, as our big group (16!) was able to get all of our food within 30 minutes of ordering. Amazing. Service did get a little confused with our orders but they were super nice about it and all in all gave us a great experience. They even separated checks for us without raising hell!! That's unheard of in the Philippines. The vibe, the food, and the service are all here. Definitely the best Mexican-type food I've had in the metro. read more

I'm a big fan of soft tacos so I just knew I had to drop by when I heard about this new restaurant. When I went, I actually drove right past it because I didn't realize it was in the same building as Uncle Moe's Shawarma and is right across Ace Water Spa. The place is actually a shipping container turned restaurant, with a few more tables right outside. When I visited, I tried the steak taco and shrimp taco. For P210, it's a steal! I liked the flavor and heft of the steak. The shrimp was lightly battered, with a spicy kick at the end. For dessert, try the chwaffle! A cross between a churro and a waffle, it's topped with cinnamon sugar, a dollop of salted caramel and vanilla ice cream. That dessert tastes like childhood. It's sweet without being cloying and is a great way to end a meal. If there's anything to improve, it's that the space is limited so 2-3 restaurants share a toilet. If you're seated outside, the smell of banyo can be distracting. read more

I love Taco Vengo. I celebrated my birthday here with my friends and they all enjoyed. I ordered their chicken taco and fish taco. I love what they do with their tacos. The price is great and it comes out fast. We had a group of more than 10 people and they were able to serve us in a timely matter. The servers were also really sweet. Must try the churrowaffle with vanilla ice cream. It is everything you need after tacos. Promise. My friends and I were able to pay for our own orders because they took note of our individual orders from the start. Very organized. The space is kind of small but we were lucky to get some seats inside. They have some outdoor seating as well. Our group moved down to another place to drink and chill. However, after drinking we came back! I had the chicken quesadilla. Let me tell you I have never had a chicken quesadilla that good. It is the sauces they use or something. Try it! Daaaaamn mutha... Say whuuut?!!! Let's just say I was possessed whilst trying the tacos at this place. My brain was exploding and my eyes were popping with every bite I took. Was I just hungry? Did I take drugs? Wtf am I eating? How could this be? I heard there's no decent Mexican place around here! Well, hello! Obviously I'm wrong (and obviously I was also talking to myself even if I had friends w me, schizo much?) well, this isn't exactly a Mexican hole in the wall. It's really more of a fusion as I can't say everything I had was authentic mex. but Nevermind that. they had that super awesome soy glaze chicken. It's like Roy choi's kogi tacos but possibly event better. I love love love the shrimp tacos too. It's somewhat baja but maybe also better. I don't know. It was pretty awesome, guys. The tortilla seemed homemade too, it was soft and flat, but sadly I forgot to taste it. Really glad crunchy crab was closed coz my friend ended up taking us here. Who would have thought... Super great vegetarian options! As a girl who grew up in the American Southwest, trust me when I say I know good Tex-Mex. I had the veggie burrito and it was awesome, but my favorite was by far the quesadilla! Endless yummy, gooey cheese, and it pairs perfectly with the slight spicy sweetness of their Perfect Girl hot sauce as a complimentary condiment. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I have always been a sucker for Mexican food. It's a very serious dream of mine to eat authentic Mexican food in Mexico one day, but I begin to digress. The point is, I have been wanting to try this place out for quite awhile. Soft tacos are muy irresistable! (My judgy side keeps thinking of them as millenial hipster versions of the burrito, but whatever.) Maybe it was a mistake to try this place out for the first time when I was almost a quarter of a stomach away from being full, since I couldn't eat as much as I could have. I still enjoyed it immensely, and I think that's a good sign. I'll just have to deal with burning off the excess calories. (Confession: I actually dropped by after work the next day, because I wanted to try more of their tacos.) The place is a bit easy to miss if you're not looking carefully. You'd probably drive right past it if you didn't know it was there. But you'll be pleasantly surprised once you make your way through the deceivingly narrow alleyway that serves as the entrance corridor. It opens up into a very bright, unexpectedly spacious minimalistic urban style space with both indoor and outdoor seating. I love how it's set in a converted shipping container. The menu is pretty simple, but that's how you know a place takes their food seriously. The nachos were a perfect start, being a playful mix of tangy tomato sauce, onion bits, gooey cheese and (sous vide?) egg. The first time, I only had enough room for 1 taco, the tofu + mushroom, since it sounded the most interesting. The sauce or whatever they used for seasoning was packed with flavor, and I liked the crispness of the tofu with every bite. So far, I've tried the pork and shrimp, as well. The shrimp one is light and refreshing, and has that subdued, subtle flavor you associate with Vietnamese food. If you're ordering more than one kind, I think you should eat this one first, so it won't be overpowered by the stronger flavors of the others. The tempura batter bits were a nice touch. The pork one was very good, kind of like high end, crunchy sisig in a taco. I can't decide whether I like that one or the tofu the most. At P95 a pop though, they're not exactly the cheapest tacos in town, and the beef and shrimp cost a bit more. If you're a normal human female with a normal appetite, you'll be needing at least 3 to feel satisfied. I only wish that they had some sort of combo meal so you could try all the flavors for less. They probably know people are willing to pay a bit more for their tacos, because no matter what anyone says, they really are good and even addiciting. Tip: Save space for dessert! The chwaffle (that means churro + waffle), topped with cinammon sugar, salted caramel and vanilla ice cream, is like a childhood memory on a plate. read more
