I was looking for decent airport food while waiting for my flight back to the United States from Cancun (after a relaxing stay at the @joiabyiberostar Paraíso). What I found was a surprisingly delicious eatery providing tourists with the final flavors of the Yucatán.
The colors and textures of the eatery are intended to remind tourists as much of the warmth and coziness of a hacienda as one can get from a food stall in an airport.
Hacienda serves breakfast in addition to lunch and dinner specialties. This is not an eatery to enjoy if your plane is about to board--there was a fifteen-minute wait before the food was ready.
I ordered the:
Cochinita Tacos (Yucatán-style barbecued pork with pickled red onion)
Lime Soup (chicken broth, sofrito, sour lime)
Agua de Chaya (leafy perennial shrub native to the peninsula)
Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and delicious. I am already planning a trip to the area this year. Usually someone who doesn't like to wait long at the airport, I will definitely make time to experience the panuchos, salbutes, and Motuleño-style eggs. It's rare that one is excited to eat airport food.
