My family and I were NOT enjoying the food at our resort, so after two days of hoping it would get better, it was time to venture off the resort. El Fish popped up as a nice spot by the water to have dinner. When we arrived, it looked like just a taqueria stand out front, lol (my mom was very concerned) . But once we realized you have to walk down the little hall toward the water and saw the stairs and lights, we knew it was bound to be a lot better than the resort! Our server, Roger, was quite friendly, as was the rest of the staff. The drinks were tasty and food we tried was all pretty good. We had the oysters on the half shell that came with a delicious black mignonette, the soft shell crab tacos, tuna sashimi, and the calamari rings as appetizers. All were quite good with the exception of the calamari rings that had a bit of a heavy batter that tasted more like a beer batter than a tempura as described. I did enjoy my grilled octopus. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but enjoyable nonetheless. My stepdad and goddaughter both had the seafood stuffed mahi mahi which they both said they enjoyed, and my mom had the Caribbean mahi mahi (I think). It had a coconut cream sauce and other seafood on top, octopus and shrimp. For dessert, we had the 8 layered chocolate cake, which was amazing and not too sweet. We also got the key lime pie, which I'm sure some people like the style they have, but it wasn't a favorite of ours. Overall, it was a good experience. The restaurant is lovely, the staff friendly, and the food was good. Our bill was around $400 for 4 people. It didn't quite feel like a $400 meal, but it was much better than the resort food that we paid $130/day to eat. read more

Also, stick to fresh, as their deep-fried, breaded offerings aren't cooked all the way through. The group of us adored this place! Food: We ordered various seafood tostados, tacos, and ceviches. Everyone LOVED their dishes. Shrimp, fish, octopus was all super tender and perfectly cooked. The salsa recipes and fresh tortilla chips were a bonus. So stinking good! Service: Servers were attentive and prompt. Didn't rush us. We actually sat at the bar prior to our table reservation and the bartenders were friendly and make stellar margaritas - not too strong and not weak. A perfect balance. Ambience: Cozy, vibey inviting outdoor patio space - there are seats on the sand under a large tiki roof, as well as tables on the marina. A mixture of locals and tourists come here. Live music after 7p on the weekend nights we came here. Side Note: you can sit at the bar, but the counter is super high and bar stools are low, so everyone at the bar felt like they were little kids sitting at a high top table. We would 100% come back. Really wonderful restaurant by the water! Service was excellent, the food was delicious & they had a live band (play on Fridays!). We didn't plan a trip here but it was a great surprise as we came in time to see the sunset and band. We wanted to try the traditional Mayan way to cook fish so we got an 800 gram grouper which comes with salad and plantains. Sharing between 2 people is plenty of food. The margaritas are pretty good (one traditional costs ~$16). Yeah, we know the meal & drinks should be less expensive since we are in Mexico but the atmosphere and band made it all worth it. We made sure to dine around sunset to see over the bay. The service was almost too fast. Francisco was wonderful. Helpful and gave great recommendations. The food was so fresh and very warm. Ever watch a show that a restaurant was featured and decide to go check them out? This was that, as I saw where Guy had visited and since I was headed there I decided to add them to the list of places to visit. When we arrived, it was early and the place was rather empty. We were told we could sit anywhere we liked. We ordered drinks - I got the passion fruit water, my friend got a margarita (she had to send back as she said she couldn't taste anything, the remake she said was better) - and we ordered appetizers - she got tostanes and I got the calamari that the waiter highly recommended. We also got some chips and various salsas to start with. Food wise, everything was good but the calamari. It breaded and the calamari itself was very rubbery. This goes on the list of the worst calamari I've ever had. The waiter saw we wasn't eating it and asked if we wanted to box it to go to which we both said no. The shrimp tacos were good, my friend enjoyed her spicy fish & they brought out a complimentary coconut flan as it was Mothers Day. We visited this restaurant twice during our week stay in Cancun. We went at lunch time and it was very laid back and a perfect spot to beat the heat while also seeing the water. Their passion fruit margarita was so good. I really enjoyed the shrimp tacos, which my partner really loved the famous governor tacos. This was our first restaurant in Cancun. I enjoyed spicy fish that came with rice and fried plantains. I also ordered tostones and a passion fruit margarita. The fish was spiced perfectly and the rice and plantains really complemented it perfectly. The tostones were fried perfectly and were actually sweet and savory- perfect combination! Initially, I tasted no alcohol in my margarita and the server took it back and had more added. It improved but it was underwhelming. Beautiful lagoon side view. Short walk from La Isla or Hospital Joya bus stops. Walk past the street facing store front, towards the back and downstairs to get to the main restaurant. Largest well priced cocktails we saw at restaurants (under 200 pesos). Complimentary spread of salsa, pico, habanero, tamarind with basket of totopos. Service was very fast and attentive and they made an effort to check for any resort/hotel discount that could be applied, even though we did not make a reservation through our resort. Solid food and fair prices. Grilled octopus was a little soggy/mushy on the outside, despite being served in the skillet in was presumably cooked in. Tuna tostadas were very satisfying. Cannot miss this popular Yelp place in Cancun so made a reservation at 7:30 pm. Got there at 7:15, quickly valet parking and walked down the step to see a beautiful sunset over the lagoon. Seated promptly in front of the live music. Started off with the pescadillas and ceviche pulpo with tecate and daiquiri to cool off the temperature. Service is efficient since the room is not filled yet. Explored the menu and ordered the tacos famoso governor, camarones Al coco, filete a La Veracruz, and pescado frito. Waiter showed the big grouper 1.1 kg and small cod 600 gr. Want the grouper but had to go with the small cod. I think we went too much in the fried side. The governor tacos are fried tacos with lots of cheese inside. That is overpowering the taste. A letdown. Not recommended. The coconut shrimps are good and nicely decorated. Again, portion is big. The veracruzana style fish is good balance with tomato sauce. The fried cod fish is crispy with many bone but i enjoy the debone process . Fried plantain is good but salad side is sub standard. Price and view are above average. Live music on Friday and Saturday is Bonus. Plate setting is nice but no cloth napkins or wet wipes after the messing fried food. Would have been above average if those are included. Very good experience. read more

We ordered the guacamole, elle octopus, the fried fish, the governor tacos, and the special for the day- Marlin tacos. The restaurant provides complimentary chips and salsa, which tasted very fresh! We ate all of this food shared between 3 adults and we still had some leftover. Our favorite was the fried fish, which came with a great onion and pepper dipping sauce. The fish was very crispy and we were able to pick between two catches of the day- grouper or snapper. The octopus was super tender and grilled well. The tacos were both very good- tasting very fresh. Overall it was a yummy meal. We were there celebrating my daughter's Birthday and they brought a complimentary slice of cake and even played birthday music! . One of my favs from previous trips. Their seafood platter was amazing last time and I social ordered it this time ($100+). Was very disappointed that they tried to upsell a fresh lobster (vs frozen which was included) and when we politely declined, the manager decided not to put any lobster at all... even though we confirmed it was there. They adjusted the order after an additional 20 mins but completed changed the vibe through trying to squeeze another $20 out of us... unfortunate as I would probably have gone another 2-3 times like I usually do but this is not officially off my go to list due to the profit focus that seems to permiate how they operate now... a shame as it's a great location but seems the have become a bit too successful... read more

El Fish Fritanga is a brilliant seafood restaurant located in the heart of Zona Hotelera. As with everything in Zona Hotelera expect to pay top dollar... $$$$. The one thing that sets El Fish Fritanga apart is the quality of food. If you look at the prices nobody would blame you for thinking Tourist Trap! The food here is brilliant! The main restaurant is downstairs past the small Taqueria. The main restaurant is a proper dine in venue and has a full menu, while the Taqueria upstairs serves mostly Tacos and has a very limited menu. The food is just as good in both places. The drinks here are amazing! We first ate at the Taqueria upstairs which is on the main street. You can order all kinds of drinks at the Tqueria as well, if it's not listed on the menu here the staff has the drinks made at the bar downstairs and bought up. LA TAQUERIA: ~ Ceviche - 5/5 The ceviche was literally like a meal. We weren't expecting it to be that big. It was by far the best one we had on the; Very well balanced, Good flavor, Not too citrusy with generous amounts of seafood. ~ TACOS: PULPO ENCEBOLLADO - 5/5 Probably some of the best Octopus Tacos I had. Service was beyond good, like you drop a napkin and they pick it up, friendly but it doesn't feel genuine. The place is nice, you sit downstairs, which has a lagoon view, tables are on the sand under a big cabana. I ordered the ceviche and they price it based on the fish weight, it was great at first but then it became too salty to finish. The tortilla chips were stale which was disappointing. We were staying at an all inclusive in the hotel district and by day 3 we were over the food selections so we ventured out and found this gem (thanks to Tiktok). We loved it so much we dined here the last 2 nights of our trip! When you pull up to the place it looks very unassuming (we thought we were in the wrong place) but once you descend down the staircase you step into a tropical oasis with one of the best sunsets in Cancun. The service, cocktails, ambience, music, and food were a 10 out of 10!! The staff were super attentive and accommodating. All recommendations made were delicious. We got the ceviche, fried whole snapper, Plantains, grilled fish, calamari, onion rings, and salad. All were tasty and cooked well. The portion sizes are huge and you definitely get your money's worth. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to return. I think about that snapper atleast once a week.... so good!!! read more

They were so much fun & interactive especially if you were receptive to them! The drinks were my favorite part of my experience. Highly recommend trying the passionfruit margarita!! The salmon pasta however was disappointing. Not terrible but missing some sort of seasoning and extra push to get it where it needed to be.
