We came here to grab dinner after we took the kiddos to grab ice cream to celebrate being back in school a month. I have to say when you walk in the smell was off putting and I told my husband it smelled just like old grease and cleaning supplies. Didn't want to just walk out so we ordered- service was nonexistent the lady at the counter took our order but nothing more nothing less. I ordered the quesabirria quesadilla and my husband ordered something. We asked to get some salsa as well. The food took awhile but finally it was our turn and we grabbed our food and left. Now I will say sitting with the food the boxes felt light. When we got home I was shocked at the lack of food, no salsa and these two meals were $30! Which is insane for the amount you get. I got two slices of quesadilla both as little as my hand. I was hoping flavor would make up for the baby portions but it did not. The consume just tasted like oil and the birria itself had no flavor though it was tender, my husbands asada too had no flavor. Money wasted for sure. I've been here several times in the last couple of years. At first, I was impressed because it is one of the very few restaurants in town that offers authentic-ish Mexican food. On my first few visits, I was impressed by how tasty the guacamole, huaraches, and Gorditas were. Sadly, I was deeply disappointed during my recent visit (a month ago). The guacamole I ordered was a mixture of about half avocado and half shredded iceberg lettuce. This makes the portion look larger and allows Tacos El Puebla to spend less money while still charging customers the same price (or even more) but it does not taste good. When I order guacamole, I expect fresh avocado, red onion, lime juice, salt, and spices like cumin, a sprinkle of cayenne, etc., NOT shredded cheap lettuce. I also had to return to the counter and ask for chips. The tacos and Gorditas were greasier than I remember and I felt unwell after I finished eating. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and I do not plan to return to Tacos El Puebla. read more

I was finally able to stop in for lunch. It was pretty busy, and the parking lot is small, but I parked next door, which wasn't bad. The space is pretty decently sized. If you wanted to sit and enjoy your food, you could. I ordered the birria tacos, and they were just okay because the cheese was cooked into the tortilla and different than I expected. The food was really good here. I wish they had seafood tacos (shrimp or fish) so the limited to no seafood options was the 4 stars for me. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't crowded just me for several minutes until a small family arrived. I can see how parking maybe a problem during a busy lunch crowd tho, but luck me to have the whole place to myself on a Saturday, lol! Customer service was ok. Can you say YUM!?!? I was craving cheap street tacos and this was the perfect place. I'm so so happy I remembered passing this truck while driving. I ordered the Al Pastor, Lengua, and Machacha tacos. My first one was subpar (I think the al pastor), but the other two were amazing!! Sadly it was hard to tell which was which because they were in the same bowl and they didn't say when they handed it to me. $2 tacos? I'll DEFINITELY be back! Only downside, their only sauces are spicy so you can't put a ton. I usually like a lot of mild salsa with a little spicy sauce so I might just bring my own next time so it's not dry. read more

Hands down, best tacos in Columbia and overall fantastic Mexican street food. I have been longing for a good, authentic taco joint and have found decent ones over the last few years, but nothing spectacular until I happened upon this humble food truck. Located on the corner of Ft. Jackson Blvd and the street that leads to Eggroll Chen (that is always under construction), it is easily accessible. While it does offer a portable plastic table and a couple of seats outside to dine at, most order to-go. Also, note that it is only available on weekends and only accepts cash. That aside, the food is delightful. The tacos are definitely authentic and so delicious, served on corn tortillas with your choice of meat, covered with cilantro and onions, and served alongside grilled onions, radishes, and a hot pepper. You also have a choice of mild and hot salsa (it's actually hot!). For meats, I would definitely recommend the steak and the lengua (tongue). Their tortas are also good. I've tried their Cubana torta - absolutely delicious and filled with so much meat, as well as other things such as avocado, lettuce, and tomato. As for their drinks, they have a cooler in front of their truck that has an assortment of soft drinks, including Jaritos! If available, I would also definitely recommend trying their any agua fresca (fruit waters) they have available. Their melon water I tried is to die for. Nowadays, I always make sure I have cash in my wallet going into the weekend so I can try as much of the menu, both old and new, as I can! read more

And you have to make sure you're looking during these times: Thursday - 11:00am-11:00pm Friday, Saturday - 11:00am-12:00am Sunday - 10am @ Owens Field Once we found this truck, it's been bittersweet to revisit restaurants where they served what we once believed to be "authentic" Mexican. I do not say this to denigrate all Mexican food in the city because there are some exceptional establishments in Columbia; this food truck is clearly among their ranks. The menu includes: tacos, tostadas, empanadas, quesadillas, chimichangas, chimichangas, burritos, tortas, tamales, sopas, horchata, and huaraches (the most expensive item is $3.50) The meat selections: asada, al pastor, lengua, pollo, barbacoa, chorizo Now, we have only had tacos. But we have had many tacos, so let's talk about them. The soft corn tortillas in which they come make it a gluten-free experience (if that's your thing). Of course every selection is seasoned and cooked perfectly (to be fair, neither of us have ordered the "lengua" so you'll have to just go with our blessing and respect there) and is topped with cilantro, lime, and onions... but have you ever been served radishes with your tacos? Neither my wife nor I had ever heard of such scandal, but turns out that it's a culinary tradition that we've been missing without knowing. Now we have been schooled, and few tacos in the city will ever again quench this thirs... wait, radishes aren't liquid so I can't make this metaphor work (but perchance by now my enthusiasm is as clear as it needs to be).
