We stopped in for lunch and let me tell you... those collard greens are something special. Packed with flavor and the perfect side to make you feel like you're sitting at grandma's table. Now let's talk about the Chicken & Waffles -- hot, fresh, and made with love. The waffle had the most delicious vanilla flavor that reminded me of a funnel cake, with that perfect balance of fluffy inside and crispy edges. Paired with that crispy chicken, it was the kind of comfort food combo that just hits the spot. Come hungry because this is the kind of meal that reminds you why soul food has a way of bringing people together. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is the AC was out that day and I can say it was pretty warm inside. But the service was great and our server was so sweet and a true trooper!

I've been to Kiki's Chicken & Waffles on Parkland Road several times for breakfast and lunch,…read moreunfortunately, this most recent visit was disappointing--not only because of the food, but also because of the customer service. When a customer walks into your restaurant, they should be greeted and acknowledged. I stood there for a few minutes before anyone acknowledged me, and the first thing I was asked was whether I had placed an online order. The restaurant was not full at the time, so I found that experience disappointing. A simple "Welcome in, we'll be with you shortly" would have made a big difference. I ordered Kiki's Soul Food Plate with four chicken wings, string beans, sweet potato soufflé, and a muffin, along with a side of collard greens. The chicken wings were fried to a good consistency, but once I bit into them, the chicken was extremely dry--much drier than I expected. The string beans and collard greens were okay, but honestly, neither was anything special. The sweet potato soufflé was another surprise. When I took a bite, I tasted what seemed to be a clove, and I actually had to spit it out. That was definitely not what I expected when ordering sweet potato soufflé I am not a big fan of cloves. The muffin was probably the best part of the meal. It was hot, edible, and had more of a cake-like texture, which I actually enjoyed. I'm not someone who judges a restaurant based on one visit, especially since I've eaten at Kiki's several times before. But this particular visit just didn't live up to my previous experiences. The food and the service both missed the mark this time. I hope this was simply an off day because I would like to see Kiki's do better.

(Get prepped for a detailed review). I'm always up for a good food truck, but to be honest…read moresometimes they get redundant. I even think the lack of variety makes some food trucks more popular than maybe they deserve to be. Barn Bites is every bit deserving of all good things said about them and their food, and if given the opportunity, you REALLY need to be sure and give it a try. My kids (highschoolers) are always down to try a new chicken sandwich.... but to be honest there's not many places you can take a sandwich that it either hasn't been before... or where it just becomes a sloppy mess. So I'm not sure what we were expecting, but Barn Bites was better than any expectation. We waited in a little bit of a line, maybe 7 people back. We ordered at 2:45pm. So, first thing I'm thinking is this is gonna take a while. But it will probably be some chicken thrown in a fryer (from frozen) and they'll throw sauce and something else on it. So it won't take long. But no. Right there in the window, they set the expectation. This is going to take some time, they hand bread/season to order, and it WILL take you 10-12 minutes to get your food. This is also genius. Setting that expectation up front...... THANK YOU! Totally didn't even notice the time pass. We got our food at 3:10. So it took 25 minutes, but we expected a wait... we had people in front of us, and they all had to wait 10-12 minutes. So we were fine with it. In fact this raised our expectations... which is NOT something a food truck wants you to do if they can't back it up. So we sat down about 3:11pm. And I kid you not by 3:13pm we had already decided this was THE best chicken sandwich anywhere. My daughter and I got the Palmetto, my son got the Hot Sam... we did this so I could get a bite of his sandwich and try it. Well, my son inhaled his sandwich. I never got a try. The Palmetto... was other worldly. The spices, the crisp... this was no pressed chicken patty or frozen shredded stuff. This was a thick, chicken sandwich, that was JUICY and not dry. We added the rosemary parmesan fries. The 3 of us said the same thing... there's a place downtown called Grill Marks. Their fries are truffle butter parmesan rosemary. They're delicious but after a while, they're so heavy they make you feel ill. Barn Bites were PERFECTION. Not greasy, not overly saturated with cheese or oil or anything. They were amazing. So think of the best chicken sandwich you've had. ChickFila? Zesto? Even BoJangles. yeah they're fast food places... ok so how about somewhere like Old Mill, or Liberty. This sandwich is better. WAY better. The folks in the truck were super nice. The strawberry lemonade was on point and fresh, with bits of fruit in it. This isn't any ordinary food truck. This is a food truck you want to get in line for, will happily wait for, and will seek out to go back to. I don't make long reviews often, but when someone deserves it.. deserves success and deserves to be known about... I like to at least do my part to spread the word and recognize. Seriously you will NOT be disappointed. Thank you to the folks at Barn Bites food truck, who were at Hazelwood yesterday. You've got this family hooked. I wish you much success and longevity!! We will be back to try the pork chop version, and the other sides.... we got the fries and the cheese balls.... we need more.

Brown Bad Deli recently opened up on Spears Creek Road. I had heard about their food truck on Yelp…read morebut when they opened up a brick and mortar business where PT's coffee used to be. Our ROMEO group of 8 went here for lunch today to try it out. The store is exactly as it was when PT's was here...they've got about four tables with two chairs along the wall on the right. Another table with four chairs on the left and another small table with two chairs. They have a longer high table with seating for eight as soon as you come in. We arrived about 11:10AM and the cashier explained their sandwiches. They have a great selection of hot and cold sandwiches, a glass display with several good looking pasta sides, and their blackboard has a list of snacks and salads. For drinks they have teas, coke and diet coke, and some sort of flavored soda in cans. Our group ordered 2 Italian sandwiches (one hot and one cold), two Reuben sandwiches, One Pastrami sandwich, one Shrimp Po' Boy, and two Cuban Sandwiches. One of the guys saw an appetizer of three pimento cheeses with cheese crustinis (he took home for his wife) that looked delicious. The Italian sandwiches were good, filled with all the right stuff. Quite large and cut in half. I forgot to ask but I wish I'd ordered jalapeno's on the side for mine. The Rueben's were well liked with a lot of swiss cheese and meet. The pastrami was very good, packed with a lot of meat. The Shrimp Po' Boy was good, but he said he wish the remoulade sauce had more of a kick...and one of the other guys mentioned that in New Orleans they usually don't put remoulade sauce on Po' Boys. Overall rating was a 4.0 for the guys. The one thing that was mentioned was that they should at least serve a bag of chips or a small side of pasta salad or something, similar to what many of the other deli's do in town that we've frequented. Price of the Italian sandwich was around $14. Staff is friendly...hope they do well.
