Free parking in the parking lot right outside the church. Church door was open so we walked in, blessed ourselves with holy water, and made our way into the church. We found a pew and sat as the choir was singing prior to mass starting. Filipino priest led the mass nicely and shared a nice homily. This church has children's church during mass, so our three grandchildren attended and enjoyed. At our church the kiddos usually come out with a printable showing what they talked about and possibly colored. They did not bring anything out with them. The two older grandkids were asked to join two other children to bring up the gifts. That was so nice. Our 4 year old granddaughter came out of the children's church room without an adult. Hmmm...I had my eye on the door so I quickly redirected her to our pew. The church is small enough that this was no problem on this day. There was a 2nd collection which there usually is. The priest was available at the back of the church after mass to greet everyone. On this day the church was holding their ministry fair. Everyone was invited to attend but we had lunch plans so we headed out. We would definitly return to this church when in town.

Wonderful parish. I came as a visitor and loved how they have a book with all the hymns, order of…read morethe mass, prayers, etc. The window behind the altar showcasing nature is a beautiful touch.

Gayle and I were…read morehere last Sunday for a performance of Handel's Messiah by the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra & Chorus (TOCCATA). Gayle's 93 year-old Mother is an Alto in their Chorus. I've always enjoyed this English-language Oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. As the entire piece would clock in at over 3 hours, TOCCATA limited its performance to key portions of Part 1 (Birth) and Part 3 (Resurrection). I particularly like Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, Ev'ry valley shall be exalted, and For unto us a Child is born in Part 1. For these pieces and the rest of the concert for that matter, TOCCATA did a bang up job. I was perhaps one of the better Messiah performances that I had experienced over the many years that I had been attending. The TOCCATA performance was further enhanced by the excellent acoustics at St. Theresa, the attractive sanctuary, the welcoming ruach of this congregation, and an appreciative full house. One didn't have to be Catholic or even Christian to appreciate this special Holiday event.

It seems a bit strange to "review" a church, because as a Catholic, I believe that Jesus is present…read morein every Catholic Church in His Word, His Body and Blood and in the members of the Church whom the Bible tells us makes up the "Body of Christ." Because I am an annual visitor, for the past 9 summers, rather than a regular parishioner here, I suppose I can write in a somewhat more detached manner than someone who has more of an emotional investment in the parish. The Mass is celebrated in a dignified manner in accordance with the new Roman Missal. The liturgy is what I would call middle of the road: little or no Latin, but no crazy 70's wired stuff either. There is good participation by the laity as Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers and choir. Although there are certainly more visitors here than at your average suburban Catholic parish, they don't go out of their way making a big deal about it. While I suppose some people would like more personal attention, I think most visitors prefer to attend Mass and simply fit in. The visitor is welcomed just as much as the locals are. That is one of the great things about the Catholic Church: even if the homily and music are different, the readings are the same in every parish and the same Christ is truly and substantially present at every Mass throughout the world. If you are a Catholic looking for a well-celebrated liturgy in a comfortable yet sacred environment you will feel very much at home here.
