The owner/estimator, Doug, came to our home to evaluate for a move out-of-state. Estimate was $20,000. After our possessions were picked up, the number changed to $36,000. Doug refused to talk to us. An increase of 80% deserves an apology and at least a discussion for underbidding (Two other companies had higher bids. When questioned, I was told that Doug is usually always on target). Hi - I have used professional movers 11 times since 1980. Tahoe Moving Service is by far, head-and-shoulders, above the rest. Excellent in Communication/keeping me informed (thank you Charity) coordinating the transfer of a load coming into their facility from an East Coast Movers (transferring a load from a semi into a smaller truck because the semi driver was concerned about making it up our drive way in the snow - Thank you Charity and Doug) And all the movers were great, clean, professional polite with good manners (Thanks Doug, Ryan, El Jefe, and one other guy whose name evades me at the moment -- ALL FOUR OF THEM JUST GREAT!!!) The 4 movers used a "Beam Lift" to move 300 lb. pieces of furniture in/out of a loft with a narrow spiral Staircase. Other movers declined the job because this was too challenging for them. AND NOT A SCRATCH ON ANYTHING!!! I HIGHLY recommend, without reservation, Tahoe Moving and Storage for any of your moving needs -- residential or commercial. In my opinion and based on recent experience, this is an unprofessional, unreliable and discourteous company, despite what appear to be strong reviews online. I contacted Tahoe Moving after searching for a reputable moving company to help me, my wife and our young daughter into our new home. On Feb. 7, I spoke with a person by the name of Charity when I called their number to inquire about availability and pricing. After describing our furniture items, she provided a quote via email at what I recall to be approx. $370/hr for a three-person crew, 4-hr minimum and availability on my preferred date of Feb. 17. I emailed her back the same evening and asked if she had an estimate for how many hours they would expect the move to take. She responded on Feb. 10 to say that they estimated 5.5 hrs. The same day on Feb. 10, I replied and said I would like to lock us in with that pricing and confirmed the agreed upon date and time - the following Monday, Feb. 17 with an ETA of between 9 and 9:30am. On Feb. 12, I received a revised estimate via email, increasing the per hour cost to $472 for a 4-hour crew, same 4-hr minimum. There was no explanation via email and no courtesy phone call. I received a text message from Charity the same day asking whether I still wanted to get on the calendar and I explained via text that I had already confirmed via email. I called (at 4:31pm) to ask about the sudden, unexplained change in pricing. I spoke with Doug, who said - without apology for the lack of prior notice - that after reviewing Charity's estimate, he decided that he would need 4 people to help move some of the heavier items. I said that was fine and was still agreeable to the price. He told me that I would need to pay a 10% deposit, which I also was fine with. At no time did Doug or Charity mention anything about a cutoff time by which I had to pay the deposit. Two days later, on Feb. 14, I paid the deposit online, at little after 4:00pm. I received an email confirming receipt of the deposit and the date of the move. On Sunday, Feb. 16, I received a text message reminding me again that my move was scheduled for the next day on Feb. 17, as agreed upon and paid for in part. My family and I spent all weekend and well into the night on Sunday evening/Monday morning packing and organizing. On Feb. 17, the day of the move, no one from Tahoe Moving showed up. I called the office numerous times, left voicemails for Doug and emailed to ask about the delay. It was not until almost noon that Doug finally called back. The first thing he said was that while he saw missed calls from me and listened to my voicemails and saw my emails, he is not with his crew - he said that in a manner that seemed to imply I was being a bother. I asked him what was happening with my scheduled move. He said that while he saw that I had paid the deposit, the deposit was made after closing at 4pm and therefore I could not expect for him to hold the reservation for me, never mind the fact that at no time did anyone say that 4pm was the cutoff, never mind that I spoke with Doug himself just two days prior at 4:30pm where I once again confirmed my hiring of Tahoe Moving, never mind that I had received both an email and text message stating that I was confirmed for the move and never mind that he or his staff could have texted or called me before cancelling my scheduled appointment without any notice whatsoever. In short, Doug attempted to gaslight me into accepting blame, was completely discourteous and voiced zero empathy for leaving me, my wife and our very young child in a lurch with all of our belongings packed and ready to go. His only offer was that he could squeeze us in 4 days later on Friday, which I declined. My wife and I called another moving company who actually apologized on behalf of the entire industry when I explained our predicament, and scheduled us for the very next morning; they arrived on time and moved all of our furniture with zero issue or any damage. I have no idea how Tahoe Moving's employees are - for all I know, they are exemplary movers - but the owner, Doug, treated us terribly without good reason. I would seriously caution anyone about doing business with Doug. read more

This was unacceptable because my home was in escrow and I only had a couple of days to remove the rest of my property. I then called Tahoe moving and they not only responded to my call but provided an estimate of the projected cost to my email within a few short minutes. The entire transaction took less than thirty minutes. In addition, they were able to schedule the move two days earlier than the other company. On the day of the move the personnel arrived a few minutes early and were polite and efficient. We hired Tahoe Moving Company to move us from Round Hill/Zephyr Cove area to Portland. These guys rock! Jake was great to work with on getting the estimate. They packed us up in 2-1/2 days and then arrived early on Day 3 to unload with a coordinated crew in Portland. Shane, Trent, Jared, and Nikolai were the main folks who packed us up. Shane also drove our stuff up and led the Portland crew. Everyone was very polite, friendly, and very careful with our stuff. After living in Tahoe for 33 years, we had LOTS to pack! You found them!!!! You can stop searching on Yelp for movers in Tahoe, and hire these guys! Five star service from beginning to end! From Doug (the owner) to Jake (manager) to the very polite movers Nikolai and Jared, our move was easy and flawless! We had a relatively small job moving from one unit to another in the same complex. We didn't even need a moving truck. Not only was the job small, but Tahoe Moving company had to drive all the way from the North Shore to the South Shore just to accommodate us. I thought, "ok, the job is so small and far, that they won't even care about our job." Boy was I wrong! I called a few moving companies but none of their service on the phone compared to Jake's and Doug's. Jake took the time to answer all my questions about coordinating the move and making sure that an experienced team handled the removal and then set up of our washer and dryer. Doug helped us to ensure that our work order accurately reflected all of our requests and promptly sent us the estimate so that the pricing was transparent - their pricing is more than fair, and more importantly, worth every penny. Fast forward to moving day. Nikolai and Jared arrived on time wearing masks to keep all of us safe during the move. They were extremely polite and pleasant and reassured us that if something wasn't placed quite right, that they'd fix it right away. They effortlessly carried one heavy item after another while making sure that they wouldn't scratch any walls or doors, or damage the furniture. Great overall experience with this company! They were friendly from the beginning to the end. Jake was great with giving me an estimate and I was happy they don't charge extra fees for dumping junk (it's all hourly). It took a couple hours longer than anticipated which is not a total shocker given how much stuff we had accumulated at our old place. The two men who moved us were great and efficient. My family used Truckee Movers to install a new refrigerator in our Dollar Point home. Doug returned my call immediately, even though it was a Saturday evening. We had scheduling issues with the store who was delivering the truck and Doug and his crew were willing to wait for the truck. These guys were fantastic! They were so good it was almost spooky! They were on time, professional but friendly, and worked like dogs getting the truck packed. Oh, and it was all when the smoke first descended on Tahoe. They took great care with everything--including our piano!--and things came through the trip just fine. By the time they were done loading, the AQI was 409 but they never complained. On the arrival end, in Colorado, they were on time again, and the crew on this end was just as professional, competent and friendly. I highly recommend this company!
