There were three women and two small pups that decided to take a ride through the Tahoe area and learn a little bit of trivia from our great guide, Victoria. Our ride lasted about an hour and we had a great time. Because this was in July, we had a motorized carriage with an awning covering us, thankfully! Bert, our trusty steed, and AJ, our lovely driver, provided a wonderful tour of Sand Harbor. It's possible that after 60 years of visiting and living at Lake Tahoe, this is one of the most delightful experiences one might enjoy. Olivia met us, graciously checking us in and introducing us to Bert. He is an amazing, loving, gentle horse. Very handsome too. The carriage, rigging and harness are all beautiful. It's is immediately obvious that the experience will be first class. The blankets are warm, the sky blue. There is snow on the ground and AJ, our driver, is a delight sharing stories of the horses, her life living with and caring for Bert and the other horses while we enjoy the scenery during our ride! AJ clearly has a special bond with Bert, I image with the others horses as well. She takes a pretty good photo too! The Borges are to be commended, as our their drives and horses. We go to Tahoe all the time and I wanted to do something different and special for the holiday season. After some searching I found this company. Of course we wanted a "white Christmas" but the weather said otherwise. It was icy and packed powder in general but all the snow on the roads were melted away. It was, however a beautiful day, sunny. Our group had 2 adults and a 4 year old. We rode the 20-person sleigh being pulled by 2 draft horses, these things are MASSIVE but docile. Overall the experience was fine, it wasn't as "magical" as we have hoped, we went around the parking lot for a bit and made it to Sand Harbor beach, which we were already familiar with as die-hard Tahoe fans. Snapped a few photos anyway. This is a family-owned business, which they've been running for decades, which I think is really sweet. On their site, too, there's an FAQ regarding the treatment of the horses. Regardless, don't expect too much, but I would encourage you to support this local Tahoe business. read more

If you just want to ride in a horse and carriage, I guess you could go this route Because the scenery really is beautiful. And riding in a carriage is nice. But the "tour"around the park was very short. We could have walked it. It was not worth the money. The tour guides were friendly and informative. The horses were beautiful. But when the tour was over, I couldn't help but feel like we got ripped off. Online, they make it seem like the tour is about an hour long, but part of that hour is taking you to the beach and letting you explore for a little bit. Absolutely horrible. I booked a carriage trip for my wife & I on our honeymoon. It said to arrive 15 minutes early, so we did. They never showed up, and we waited for 45 minutes after that, calling and texting. Never showed up, and never responded to messages. Still charged my card for the carriage ride though. Wasted an hour standing around and ate up an afternoon of our honeymoon we could have spent doing something other than standing on the street. My 6 year old daughter and I went on the one-hour sleigh ride yesterday at Sand Harbor State Park with "Duke." We had a blast! All of the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful, and seemed to genuinely enjoy being able to share their horses and provide this service. Throughout the ride, our driver shared all kinds of interesting information about the horses, the history of the area, and the different trees in the park. We stopped a couple of times to give Duke a break, which gave us a chance to take some photos, and - best part - give Duke some treats! Yes, the ride was a bit expensive. I doubt these people are getting rich doing this - there must be significant costs in running this kind of operation. But more importantly, you're paying for a really unique experience. My daughter absolutely loved it, and I got some great photos - to me, that's priceless. I'm sure this will become an annual tradition for us. I'm disappointed in some of the negative reviews from people who have unrealistic expectations and/or no understanding of horses. The ride goes through parking lots and on sidewalks around the park. If you want an "off-road" experience, there are other winter activities that are better suited to that. Yes, these animals need breaks - they are working hard. In my mind, it's a good thing that the owners care about the horses' well-being, not a flaw. And complaining that there's only patchy snow on the ground, as if the owners could control the weather? We were extremely disappointed with our experience. The only aspects that I can say were good were the following: the communication both via text and email were excellent and all of the people that worked there were friendly. The actual experience of the sleigh ride was where our disappointment was. We were essentially being pulled around through different parking lots for 45 minutes. I honestly was shocked. Where were these "Enchanted Pines" described in the website. I kept asking myself, "Is this a joke?" There was only one stretch of about 200 feet where we were on a trail. That was it! Additionally, it was advertised as a narrated/guided tour. Our guide barely spoke to us and we did not learn anything about Tahoe, Nevada or the surrounding area. There were no stories, no songs, nothing as advertised. While our guide was polite, he probably said ten words to us the whole tour. Finally we were promised amazing photos- our guide cut off our horses head in EVERY photo and in many he cut off part of my family!!! It was awful. Almost gave them 4 stars...sorry. the reason why- is because their location was a bit hard to find. When I tried calling before our trip , the lady kept telling me to check the website- on their blog they post updates etc... I never found the blog. :/ and the address shown when you search for them is the one by the Stateline and I couldn't find them. I called once I was there and the lady told me they were closed in that location but open in sand harbor. I had no idea there were 2 locations. Anyway, the price is a bit high but honestly to us it was worth it. Our guide//driver was great! She made us laugh, she was very friendly and informative. The views were amazing. We did ride in the parking lot but we also got to ride near the lake and the beautiful trees. Most importantly my 3 year old loved it. She had a blast and at the end of the day that's what matters. After our ride we did walk around the beach. Our daughter had such a great time playing on what was left of the snow for the season...I believe. My husband and I asked when the first available time and the young lady said 1:45. I checked back with her at 1:15 to confirm our time and she said 1:45. We got there at 1:40 and was told we now had to wait after 3 because one of the carriages are out. However, I did see them put another family on a different carriage. They disregarded our reservation and could only say we have to wait until after 3. Or wait until tomorrow. I told them we are leaving tomorrow and already had plans for later. This is one of those bucket list things. I had never ridden in a horse drawn carriage, and upon seeing these, I thought, why not? I live by the saying, you only live once and you are only as old as you feel. This day I felt very young and just wanted to be a tourist. So on this day, Duke a Belgium white horse pulled us in a covered carriage down to the lake and surrounding neighborhoods. For an hour you feel like royalty, the clicking of the horses hooves and the beautiful scenery put you in a relaxing state. I highly recommend this ride. It may not be for everyone and it is totally touristy, but it is a way to see SLT in peace and quiet. They provide a blanket if it is cold so you can snuggle. In the winter they run sleighs in SLT and sand harbor. read more

During a recent get-away to Tahoe, we stumbled upon discovering that Borges is offering sleigh rides at Sand Harbor this winter. We were celebrating my son's 5th birthday, and he was so mesmerized by the horse that I couldn't resist taking the ride. We opted for the 30-minute ride, which cost $60 for two adults and one child. There were two young guys (forget their names...boo to me) working the day we were there, and they both were very professional and provided great customer service. The gentleman who wasn't driving asked if we'd be willing to give permission for him to shoot some photos while we were on our ride and was very gracious and thankful when we said that'd be fine. Our driver was very personable and chatted with us throughout the ride. The ride winds through the forest area at Sand Harbor and offers some nice views of the mountains and the water. We were told that once there's enough snow to allow it, the sleigh ride will actually go right down to the beach, which sounds kind of amazing to me. As it was, our driver offered to stop for a bit if we wanted to walk down to the beach and take a few photos. We were told this is something that there isn't normally time for on the 30-minute ride but since it had been a quiet day, he felt there was extra time to do so. He even offered to snap some photos of our family (and did a pretty decent job with my DSLR), which was great. As we got back to the sleigh to return to the starting point, it started to snow, which just made the ride feel that much more magical. I realize they aren't really in charge of that, but I'm giving them credit anyway. 3 stars because, as much as we enjoyed the experience, the $60 feels excessive to me for what the 30 minute ride entailed, and honestly I don't think it would have been worth it at all without the stop along the beach and photos that weren't "supposed" to be part of the ride. read more

Borges Sleigh & Carriage Rides is a great idea that doesn't live up to your ideas... which is pretty sad since my expectations were really low to begin with. We paid $60 for 2 adults and 1 toddler for a 30-minute sleigh ride in a big field. The trails didn't go into the forest at all. In fact, our 30 minutes was really about 5 minutes of riding, then a break for the horses, 5 minutes of riding, then a break for the horses... All of this would have been fine, just for the photo opportunity but, our sleigh driver apparently didn't know how to take a pic with a DSLR. He didn't push the button down all the way and so no pictures were on our camera when we went to check them on the drive back home. So... for $2 a minute... it REALLY wasn't worth it. It was nothing like their main pic shows. For 2013/2014 Winter 30 minute Group Sleigh Rides are $25.00 per Adult $20.00 per Youth 11-17 $10.00 per Child under 11. And the 1 hour rides Private Sleigh Rides are $50.00 per Adult $45.00 per Youth 11-17 $25.00 per child under 11. They also have snow mobile rentals but I don't know how much they were. I'm only giving 2 stars because my 2-year old still associates the song Jingle Bells with real horses. Won't see ya there. read more

The sleigh ride was a joke. We tried it on our Xmas vacation (12/23/20)and it was nothing to what they make it seem in the pictures. It was a 30 min ride around the parking lot. We were a party of 12, which we paid a bit over $500. And you still have to pay $10 to enter the park. We experienced a sleigh ride with Borges over the holiday season. They were able to accommodate us even during the busy Christmas weekend. The scenery was beautiful and being an animal lover, I was concerned about the heavy workload of the horses, however the driver provided us with lots of reassuring and interesting info. I can tell the staff and driver truly love and care about their horses. This is a family run business (for several generations, I am told) and we dealt directly with Dwight, the owner when signing up for our one hour ride. My family was lucky enough to have the last ride of the day where we saw the gorgeous sunset scenery and the serene waters of Sand Harbor beach at Incline Village. It seems like the common risk with booking this company is they could cancel on you within a day. We have a big family group of 12 that planned our entire week's activities around our Friday sleigh ride. We could have planned so many other activities on that day, but had this booked. The day before they email to cancel because of too much snow on the ground. BREAKING NEWS! - there has been over 8 feet of snowfall in the past two weeks. There was too much snow on the ground a week ago by their logic. How do you wait until LESS THAN 24 HOURS before telling a group you're unable to deliver on their reservation? Now our group is left scrambling on the last day of a family vacation trying to find a fun activity. Our tour guide, who's name I cannot remember but she had red hair- Megan?, was such a sweet tour guide and answered all of my questions about the area. Even though I loved the tour I felt like the second half of the tour was somewhat boring due to the scenery just being a golf course. Let's start off with the PROs. The sleigh ride was in an easy to find location. It was set up in the Sand Harbor visitor center parking lot. We got set up there with our driver and our horse, Major. We got in our sleigh and they wrapped us in blankets. It was a particularly cold weekend in February. Our carriage driver was a sweet young guy. He was very talkative and tried to tell us lots of facts about Lake Tahoe. He took us all around Sand Harbor, through the woods, and up by the marina for a full hour. Being close to the water was the best part. The views were spectacular on the beach. There were plenty of photo ops and he did a great job capturing the moment. He was an excellent photographer. When we stopped in the woods he read us a poem by Robert Frost. I got to feed Major many treats. Major did a great job taking us on our sleigh ride. Overall, it was an awesome experience. I think it was definitely worth the money and I would do it again! It is an awesome idea to celebrate a special occasion. The only CON for us was scheduling and getting ahold of these people. Eventually they emailed and texted us back and we were able to schedule a sleigh ride for an accommodating time. It just took them many, many hours and we waited in anticipation. I am very disappointed in Borges Sleigh, Our manager had scheduled them to come and give sleigh rides and they gave a price of under $300 for two hours. When she called to confirm they raised the price to $1000.00, I mean really $700 more. It is sad when a mans word means nothing and that is Borges Sleigh rides. To bad the younger generation is not like their parents. The most he would make up at Stateline would be $720 for that time and that is if they were all adults.
