I had heard mixed results about this place, but decided to try it myself. I am a BIG eater so ordered BIG. Also ordered a meal difficult to get anywhere- a HOT butter chicken, pls rice, raita and the lamb chops for an entree. Home delivered. The delivery took as long as they said it would (approx.45 minutes) but I am in Glenorchy and it arrived on time. The chops, sadly, were somewhat dry which didn't bode well for the main course. However- the main was superb- so good in fact that it is, without doubt THE best I have ever had and I have had this dish hundreds of times all over Australia (I am from Perth in WA).The size of the main was so big and with so much beautiful sauce I had to only eat half and ate the rest the following day. I can thoroughly recommend this place, if only for takeaway. About to order again from the same place and the same food, except maybe the chops. read more

How has this place got 4 stars ? They must put their own reviews in. I dont get it !!!! I have never been in such a filthy dirty restaurant. How has it not been shut down? The floor is filthy , the chairs were sticky the walls were even dirty. Fans dirty. I cleaned my cutlery and glass with a napkin.The menus were even sticky it goes on and on. I asked for the toilet and was given and sticky dirt grimed key ring to open the door with a sticky door handle and was fairly sick at the state of the toilet. Walking past kitchen and back area to get to the toilet was a sickening experience. I didn't use the toilet until after dinner , otherwise there is no way i would of eaten there . Not that i had more than a mouthful of each dish anyway 2 of us went in and there was only one other table already eating. Food took a while but i dont mind waiting usually . The problem is while we were waiting the man who obviously is the owner and had his office set up on a restaurant table. He kept glaring at us and didnt take his eyes off the poor waitress she must be a relative or she wouldnt work there. His younger kids crying . Gets worse ..... The food NOT OK vegetable pakora cooked in dirty oil had one bite pappadums must be cooked in same oil cause they had the dirty off oil taste. Also anyone who loves a good pappadum knows when cooked in old oil they don't rise up. They stay hard and dense and oily. Naan bread was fat and chewy and under cooked inside burnt outside. Garlic prawn smelt so didnt try them Lamb chops so dry and overcooked , but i ate one cause it was hungry . Beef madras dry dry dry and to sweet lamb korma dry dry dry and to sweet butter chicken chewy and to sweet. I felt really bad for the waitress she seemed pretty sad but was super nice and attentive to us. Close this place down. i dont know how they get away with it. Before I'd even tried the food I got put off by being given a half-hour waiting time and then having to wait in the cramped and ugly takeaway room an extra fifteen minutes once I showed up at the time I was given. Humph. The food itself was fine. Delicious Indian. I had friends point me in this direction for the decent pricing but it was on par with my current favourite in town, and roughly the same distance if not a little further away for me, so after the frustration I had over waiting around I won't need to return. read more

This place has excellent Indian food. We were on holiday from Melbourne for a few days with friends. Hasn't had a lot of reviews to date, but it should have. Food is very tasty, authentic Punjab, and worth the long wait. Not a place to come to if your in a hurry. Good food with complex spices and flavours takes time to prepare. Order up and take some home for next nights dinner too. We did! read more

Don't be fooled by the tacky neon sign; the food here is top quality and absolutely delicious. The staff are really friendly and up or a chat too, especially if it's about cricket! Their butter chicken is the best I've ever had - and I've had a lot of butter chicken - and as someone who doesn't usually like red meat, I absolutely loved their lamb vindaloo! The meat was so tender and the sauce was perfect. Their saag paneer is more spicy than I'm used to but still delicious! read more

One of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to. I'm a huge fan of curries, so on my recent holiday to Hobart I was pleased to see so many choices. My partner and I picked Taj Palace by pure chance - turns out we couldn't have picked better if we tried. The food was excellent, I had mushroom bhajia and Hydrabadi paneer, both incredibly tasty, I've never had a curry like it. My partner had a beef curry so hot it could take your face off - which was exactly what he wanted. The portion sizes were enormous, the value for money is unbeatable. The place had a lovely, casual air, typified by the owners 2 year old granddaughter skipping around the restaurant saying hello to customers, some of whom were regulars and happily chatted to her about how big she'd gotten. I'd have loved a rosé on the wine list, but the red we chose was a delicious accompaniment all the same. Loved the food, the atmosphere, the service, and the huge amount of leftovers we ate the next day. read more

I've eaten curries in North India that made my skin tingle with pleasure, and this place produces food that is on par with those dishes. The kitchen also seem to get the level of spice just right, you say 'medium' you get medium. You say 'I'm a total wuss and can't handle any hotness' and you get that. Just so good in flavour, and responsive in hotness. Plus, the staff are fascinating and sincere. Who doesn't love curry and a beer served by someone interesting? read more

Food was delicious, waiting time very reasonable, however the service was disappointing. When our plates were being set down for mains the male waiter wiped his finger across one plate to remove a mark and laid fingers down across another. A waitress who brought out the mains didn't know what they were called. One dish was ordered as mild but came out hot. These are little things to avoid, but do leave an impression. read more
