Really underwhelming. Kind of like sub Roka which is not a compliment. It's not authentic, the service is inattentive, and the price is expensive for what you get.
Upon entry you'll sense this is one of those places that's high on presentation and mid on quality: chill house music in the background, well considered space but something in the air feels slightly off.
When it came to ordering, early suspicions were confirmed. I asked if they had any a la carte nigiri and the waiter responded with "what's that?" Oh dear.
We ordered some miso soup, a "wagyu" rice bowl, and a couple of tuna temakis. Not a lot of food but we figured we'd start there and see if it was good enough to continue. The miso soup was perhaps the blandest I've ever had, the rice bowl had barely any beef in it and the idea that there was anything discernably Japanese about the beef was aspirational at best, and the strongest flavor from the temakis was the nori wrapping. Just a complete disappointment all around.
The last straw: those items + one beer = £69.
