I had three shrubs in my cart. When I went to checkout, I saw the shipping charge was $70 to ship from from Jasper, TX to San Antonio, TX which was far more than the cost of the three plants! The nursery ships plants bareroot wrapped in newspaper, so the weight and bulk should be minimal for small shrubs. I decided not to order as shipping cost is not in line with other nurseries. read more

My husband and I live about 20 miles from this nursery. Stopped and bought 6 grape vines from him. 3 Concord grape and 3 Somerset grapes. He pulled the three Concord grape plants from a pot and "pruned" them. This was in June. There were no leaves and no signs of life in the plants. We are first time grape growers so didn't think about how they looked until we got them home. Needless to say we wasted $45 on three grape vines that were dead as door nails when he gave them to us. His plants are NOT well taken care of. After reading the reviews we opted to not even bother taking them back.would never buy there again. read more

We had a good experience with Talbott Nursery. We had purchased two Asian pear trees and were dismayed to read that they require a Bartlett pear tree to pollinate. No one carried Bartlett trees locally and we had a dickens of a time locating a firm that would ship to Hawaii. We were relieved to find Talbott Nursery and placed an order. On the day that our tree was to ship, however, I realized that "auto pay" had provided an incorrect "Ship to" address. In a panic, I called John at 5:00 am their time (my bad) and he cheerfully corrected the address. Talbott Nursery saved the day! Customers are reminded to read the instructions and first plant their bare root tree in a pot to allow it to recover. Sound advice and our Bartlett pear is doing well. I am getting started growing orchids, and I looked at Talbots Nursery website. They showed some very nice orchids at fair prices. I chose four plants that were listed as available for sale. I found these after discovering many many more orchids listed that were not available. Anyway, I placed the order. The information about shipping claimed it would ship express in about a week. This was ordered in the time of Covid so I planned to be patient. A month later I had not heard anything about my order so I sent a message. The reply was blunt. Essentially it said that they were waiting for an arrival for very long time so he decided to cancel my order and return my payment. The only bright spot was that I did get the refund immediately. I replied about any orchids that were actually available immediately, but no reply, and now I don't expect one. I will leave this review to decide for yourself if you want to use them. read more

Wrapped tree tightly in newspaper and shipping tape, very difficult to get out of box. The box was torn and retaped by the post office in 2 places. Tree was covered in black mold/fungus, and tons of leaves missing. Emailed them to let them know, and did not ask for a replacement or anything else, and the old man was really rude and did not offer an apology or anything. I had zero intentions of putting a review on Google, but he made me change my mind. I have dealt with a lot of nurseries, and ordered several plants and trees, and this is the worst. Too many other great places than waste your time with these people. Never again! read more

I purchased a bougainvillea from this nursery online and received it Mid August. They explain to you that they send bareroot plants and give you explicit directions on how to handle planting the plant. Several times in the directions it says if you do not follow the directions to the tee, your guarantee is void. When I received my plant, it did not look fresh. Bareroot plants often don't look that healthy, often dormant, but with the proper planting you should get a healthy plant. I followed the directions they sent me and I continue to water and after a little over a month I still see no difference, no new growth, greenery, nothing. I called and spoke to a gentleman who basically said the only warranty is if you send it back within 7 days. How was I suppose to know, that at the time, this bareroot plant was not going to grow and what guarantee are they talking about on the instructions? it can't be the warranty of 7 days. I order a lot of plants, especially fuchsia plugs on line, and I have never had such a bad experience. Occassionally, I would get a damaged plant/plug but I've been told, give it some time and if it doesn't survive they would sent me a replacement. Poor business ethics! BEWARE! read more

I placed an online order for a hard-to-find old-world variety of weigela--Vanicekii Red (Newport Red or Cardinal Red)--after one of my 5 of these border shrubs was waterlogged the previous spring. It arrived from Talbott Nursery in Texas to Ohio within the week, carefully wrapped and in beautiful condition, with specific instructions. Based on the service and our online correspondence, my impression was what I expected from reading the website--that of a life-long dedicated gardener working hard to share the beauty of nature, with the help of his wife when not working at her other care-giving career. If ever in Texas I would love to thank them in person and stroll through the grounds. read more

Do NOT do business with this company. The website stated that orders would ship in 3-5 days. I messaged the company after not getting an update and the owner sent an odd reply about packing up the wife and horse trailer to get more plants...but no estimated ship date. After another week of no updates, I sent another email requesting info and received a reply that they items would ship that week or the next. A couple weeks later I emailed AGAIN, and the owner said they didn't have one of the two items anymore and could go ahead and send the other item if i would like. I ordered two plants for Mother's Day and over a month later they still haven't shipped and don't even have both items?? I expressed my disappointment to which the owner sent a very snarky reply and mentioned that shipping delays were referenced on the home page of their website. That's fine, but 1) you have to scroll way down if you're ordering on your phone and miss it all together if you use their search function, 2) they messaged stating the items would ship within a week at one point and they still hadn't shipped 3 weeks later, 3) they didn't even have the items! and 4) they took my money the day I placed the order. I received my refund, but this company is a nightmare to deal with and completely unreliable. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

I ordered a Bougainvillea bare root "plug" which arrived to me appearing completely dead: all brown with NO green on it. I figured it was "dormant" because they described it as a "bare root". I followed their instruction sheet to the smallest detail. This plant was DOA - DEAD ON ARRIVAL; I know this is true, because I ordered another one, which arrived with some green growth on it and that appears to be growing fine. BOTH plants are in the same pot, same soil, with same nutrients. I contacted this company and they HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEE on the dead plant they shipped to me. Furthermore, they insinuated I did not follow the instructions after I told them INDEED I had - AND to the smallest detail. They sent me a dead plant and they will not supply a live one. CAUTION - AVOID this company! BAD BUSINESS!!! read more
