It's always nerve wracking trying a new hairdresser. Working overseas means I am always using different places & I don't have a regular stylist that I trust. The staff are lovely & friendly. The stylist listened to me, gave me some advice & we decided on my cut & restyle. I knew what she was doing & why & the result is I now have a hairstyle that I'm really happy with it. As a bonus she gave me a voucher for 25% my next visit & recommended a new nail salon a few doors along.

I do need my haircut but I always stay loyal to my usual hairdresser who I will definitely need to visit very soon as I'm starting to look like Cousin It. I was told that this salon sold Dermalogica products and seeing as I usually order mine online, I decided to venture in and see what they had on offer. As soon as I was on Salisbury Place I could see the huge selection of Dermalogica displayed in the window. They offer single products in various sizes and also skin packs that are a full cleansing range each targeted for specific skin types. I always go for the sensitive skin kit and was delighted that they had it - it saves me paying the postage charge online! The staff were very friendly and even though I was only in the salon for a short time I could see that it was very fresh and modern and that the staff were very attentive too. They also sell GHD's and I noticed the brand new ones in purple, green, blue and red.

My hairdresser understood exactly what I wanted and knew what the word, "trim" meant. Not a complex word but from past experience the word is not in the vocabularies of a lot of scissor-happy hairdressers that have obviously assumed it means, "cut as much as you can!" The first time I have left a hairdressers feeling good about my hair rather than thinking of ways I can maybe fix it once I'm home. I also dye my hair myself which often leads to a lot of patronsing looks while being asked questions such as, "do you dye your hair yourself?" as they hold it up and away from themselves like it's diseased. This was not the case in Robert Gordon. The hairdresser didn't even mention the dye in my hair but after considering a change of hair colour for a while I think I might just get it dyed here rather than doing it myself; and not because I felt intimidated and forced but because I would trust them to do a good job. I have never praised anywhere so highly so thank you Robert Gordon. Keep up the good work.

I was a bit disappointed that my 45 minute, £27 appointment was *only* shaping and polish. When I get a manicure I expect at least a cuticle soak. I wouldn't have minded the basic service too much if it had been a bit faster and, having spoken to friends who are shellac experts, wonder if the time was dragged out a bit. Because my cuticles weren't treated, I ended up with some strangely shaped polish which grew out somewhat oddly. I was also slightly disappointed in the rather uneven shaping of a few of my nails. That all being said, they have a great selection of colours here and I understand that the price is very reasonable. I am definitely a shellac convert.

With larger salons and chains you find that people move around, leave, or get promoted and rates go up to stay with the same stylist. I've recommended numerous friends to go to Freddy Antabi and I don't know anyone that has ever fed back having nothing other than a good experience.

He also does my nanokeratin treatment well too. I always like the results and get lots of compliments on my hair from friends and strangers, too. However, I was very much impressed by their range of organic hair products, as it's the first salon of its kind I've come across in Edinburgh. It's extremely clean and spacious, like any self respecting new age salon, and it smelled fantastic when I was in there! As well as cutting and styling the hair, the stylists can offer advice of styling and caring for your hair. I've often enquired about certain products and they are always frank and un-biased in their responses. Overall Morgan's is a friendly, welcoming salon.
