Both barbers are from the same family that owns and operates Central Valley Barber College. My husband asked me to write this review on his behalf. He went to Tall Tales about 6 weeks ago and got a pretty good haircut. Today he went back and it was a fiasco. As the photo shows, Twyla scalped him above his left ear. It's down to the skin for half an inch or so above the ear, with some straggly hairs just at the top of his ear. On the one side only. There's no fixing it. It's horrible. We have several social engagements coming up in the next couple of weeks and he's super embarrassed to be seen this way. Tall Tales Barber Shop - Worst haircut ever! - Barbers Near Me - Modesto, California

I have decided to look for another barber after my last two experiences at Tall Tales. The first...the window says credit or debit is accepted, however only certain barbers accept those methods of payment and they are gone you are out of luck that day. Sorry I don't carry cash. The second...the shop is scheduled to open at 9. The head barber is sometimes a couple of minutes past 9, but my last visit I waited till 9:10 and no one showed. I don't have time to wait. I like this shop and Crystal does a nice job but these two things have forced me to rethink where I get my hair cut. Go see Krystal, she'll take care of you. She shaved the side of my head a few times when I had an undercut. I wanted lines in it one time and she did that too with a blade for a close clean cut. Everyone loved it and I got lots of compliments. I've seen her do men's facial and head shaves with the razor blade. Very old school technique, not many barber shops do that anymore. Come here and you'll get the real barber shop experience! She is very good with kids too. My nephews are 3 and she did both their haircuts no problem. There's a few toys to keep them distracted and she gave them suckers. read more

Great old school barbershop! Jennifer and Al are very experienced and professional. They've seen it all and can cut any style you may want. Krystal does amazing work and can get closer than any barber I've experienced. By that I mean she can make your head looking shaved with just clippers. Most barbers too scared or unskilled to get that close. Great for high n tight military look. Very reasonable prices. I been to a hundred different barbers and highly recommend this place!!! read more

This place is an authenic barber shop that both my husband and son love. They really know how to cut men's hair at this place. It really beats those Supercuts-type places, because they are actually the same or a little cheaper and they do a really professional job. Lots of magazines, television, and a really neat atmosphere for those who are waiting. The barbers here are a couple of the nicest guys you'll meet, and they work well with children. My husband literally brags about his barber to his buddies and aquaintances, which is really weird because my husband is usually bragging about his latest golf score or whatever. :) read more

I was looking for a barber shop to start taking my 4 year old son with me to start a fun father/son memory getting our hair cut together and this place really fit he bill. I visited another barber shop in town and it almost felt like we were a bother even walking in. Tall Tales Barbershop was extremely welcoming and has a great atmosphere. So disappointed. I recommended this barber to my husband after reading all the positive reviews. After finally convincing him to go see a "real barber" instead of getting his usual $5 haircut, this place seemed like a good choice. However, his experience there was just bizarre. He walked in on a Saturday at about 10:30. The place was empty except for an elderly man. When he hadn't been greeted or acknowledged for about a minute, my husband approached him and asked if he could have a haircut to which the man replied that he "doesn't do fades." My husband told him that he just needed a simple haircut and the man replied that he couldn't cut his hair. ??? What barber won't cut someone's hair? Unfortunately, they just lost a potential loyal customer. What a disappointment. read more

Highly dissatisfied, took my 1 year old for his first haircut here. Showed the GIRL/FEMALE a picture reference of the "TRIM" I wanted for my son. She was NOWHERE near what I asked for. When I told her the length was good enough so she could stop cutting, she just KEPT GOING On!! Stating she was almost done and just cleaning it up, but she wasn't, she just made his hair EXTREMELY short!!! Never coming back here again nor do I recommend it to anyone. read more
