Visited Santillana Del Mar during Covid-19. Shops and restaurants all open, but very few visitors…read moreanyways. This village is one of Spains most beautiful places (imo). So there are a bunch of parking lots for visitors. This one is across the main road from the historic village, it's a really short walk only. There is plenty of parking, the spaces are big enough for SUVs as well. Usually it is metered parking here, but during Corona the took the paying machines away, so parking was free! An easy, safe spot to park your car.

If you don't mind a walk (and wanna see the beach at the same time), then this parking lot is a good option. It's easy, it's safe and there are plenty of lots. Be aware that - as in many spanish towns - they check the meters quite often, be sure to make it back in time. It's only about a 10' walk from here to the town center. But with lots of stairs, not a good option if you have a stroller or wheelchair, you could go the long way around though, but that at least doubles the time. But for us it was fine. It's cheaper than in the center and it's easy to find an empty spot. There is also a public free toilet not far from here.

Actually it was free parking during Covid-19, but some shady guy charged all incoming cars a few coins. Since we didn't want any suprise when getting back to our car (who knows...) we paid the small fee of 2 Euros for the day. Correct...no! Better be safe than sorry? Yes! Besides that it's really a great spot to park you car. From here you can get to the famous bridge withing minutes and also the castle and the viewpoint with fascinating views over the town and valley isn't far away and can be managed on foot.

The per liter price was about 1.3 Euros per Liter (about $7 a Gallon), but our VW Golf made up for it with good gas mileage, good acceleration, and a fun manual stick). Also keep in mind that: A green pump handle doesn't mean Diesel. You can pump your petrol first and then walk in and pay. I didn't notice a single pay-at-the-pump swipe when I was here. Many Service Stations have a cafe, sell wine, and otherwise make stopping in a civilized experience.

It was during Covid-19, but the lot was still almost full. But we got a spot, our SUV fitted without problems. Usually a metered parking lot, it was free during this time. It's really only a few meters away from the charming village center with all the sights and restaurants. Easy to find, easy to park. A nice and safe place to park your car.
