Great little shop that is two fold. Come here to see the view of Tallulah Point. It's beautiful and a free amazing view. They have binoculars you can use too. This is a shop you can buy souvenirs and also find out about the background of when Wallenda came here to walk across the highest point. Very cool spot to check out. They do not have restrooms here. They tell u to go down the street. There are restrooms and another beautiful view of Tallulah Point and Tallulah Gorge. Check it out and follow the signs. read more

Roadside Attraction Alert: I loved the time I spent here for lots of reasons but honestly the view of the gorge from here isn't that impressive in the least, but it is free. You might as well grab a cold bottle of pop in the store on the first floor then head up the stairs and buy a square of fudge for a buck then walk out on the upper porch grab a stool and enjoy the view, if you have a pair of binoculars or a telescope you might have a chance of seeing something amazing otherwise enjoy the pop and cool breeze. Famed tightrope walker Karl Wallenda, founder of The Flying Wallendas, probably got the best view ever when he crossed the Gorge on a high-wire in 1970 or did J.A. St. John also known as Professor Leon, might have been the first to high-wire the gorge in 1886 other sources say a Professor Bachman walked the Gorge in 1883, regardless who did it or who did it first these guys had big balls. I won't claim to know the history of this place but there's no doubt the structure is nostalgic. It feels like the entire collection of buildings hangs precariously on the edge of a cliff (you must experience the upper porch to get the full effect). I think this would be a great location to set up a zip line across the gorge, now that's taking this collage of oddities to the next level. It's unbelievable that in this day and age that everything here is free except for the merchandise which clearly shows the lack of entrepreneurism but hey not everyone is a capitalist. It's a must stop if you're in the area if only to check in on YELP - I'm joking it's really like no other place on earth and the lady reading her book upstairs for hours on end makes some mighty fine fudge... read more

It's a long way down. When you park, there is a part of the fence that is missing, which leads out to a dirt area, which is also missing a fence. Step out there, and try not to let vertigo take over (if that's a thing for you). Get as close to the edge as you can, take a few pictures, and try not to fall off. That's your best bet at a clear shot. Otherwise, there is an outlook deck in the nearby store, but it is right in front of some trees and a mass of power lines, which makes it very hard to get a good picture. For such a small waterfall (as it was today, I suppose other days it is more...grandiose) it packs a punch, as we were a good distance away and could still hear it pretty well. Don't get sucked into the touristy items at the store...and your visit is free. It's worth the extra 1/2 mile drive from the park for a few quick pictures, but next time i'll be making this trek on foot. I imagine if it was 1972 and we were looking over the set of Deliverance there would have been a much larger crowd. And much more facial hair. read more

Something from the past This review is for the little gift shop that is located on the way to the viewing area. This is a store right out of the past. Something that reminds me of a tacky souvenir place from decades ago that managed to survive without changing. All kinds of stuff and souvenirs in here. Some of it tacky as hell but some interesting items too. The fun is looking around to see what you can find. You might run across something so tacky that it will make you laugh and right next to it a nice hand crafted and local piece of art. The lady working there was really pleasant and we enjoyed talking to her. To add to the anachronistic flavor to the store there is a really old Coke machine and other relics from another time. A very cool store if you happen to like old and tacky souvenir shops. I suspect this store has been here for a very long time and looks just the same today as it did many, many years ago. read more

BE PREPARED: A LOT OF STAIRS. This is one of the most beautiful parks to visit with beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails. Parking is $5 a day , cash only. There are a lot of stairs to get to the overlooks( I walked about 700 stairs and that was only to 2 overlooks) Bring plenty of water and snack. The only thing I don't like about the park is that it is hard to get to the floor area. Each day they have out 100 permit to allow people to get to the floor. So you have to come very early (probably right at opening time). The rest of the day, the furthest you can get is to the Overlooks. read more

OK, Tallulah Gorge is awesome; it may be the most awesome thing in all of Georgia. But the Tallulah Point Overlook is just an excuse to lure people who can't find the Tallulah Gorge State Park (you're practically in it here!). Or people who want super cheesy souvenirs or Coca-Cola. Or simply people who need to take a potty break. The view is OK, but since you're very enclosed, it doesn't feel exactly "natural." Go here if you're driving by and don't want to bother with the park, and you'll still see some gorgeousness. read more

We ran into this little place on our way to the Great Smoky Mountains. It's a really cute little stop, with a great view! The shop has everything you could want from local jams and honey, to books and children's toys. There is a little picnic area, and BBQ shack next door. The food smelled delicious, but we didn't get a chance to try any. All in all it's a great place to stop, stretch your legs, and take in the view. read more

This state park is a great way to spend a pleasant day out in the North Georgia mountains. When you arrive to park (parking is $5 for the day) there is a center that has some live reptiles, area history, and gift shop. You can then head outside behind the center and navigate easily to each overlook to check out the views. Bringing picnic foods to eat outside in front of the gorge center would also be a good idea. You can also bring swim attire if you want to swim at the Slippery Rock location of the gorge. If you want to go to the gorge floor make sure you go early because only around 100 permits are available a day. Make sure the weather has been good meaning no rain because odds are you won't be able to go down if it is wet. The park is very family friendly. read more

Honestly, a fun little place to stop in, grab a Cheerwine, and sit on the porch while checking out the view. Clearly, the naysayers are unaware of a neat piece of history that took place at that very location! It was a pretty awesome feat! Maybe you know what I'm talking about, but if not, check it out! They sell a lot of handmade art created by local artists, several one of a kind pieces. Learn to look beyond the surface, talk to the gals in the store for information on other great places to see and go. read more

We stopped by on a long drive...I'm not sure why people want to look into a gorge. It reminded me of Mufasa's death in "Lion King," so I came in with a bias. I loved the store that they had there, all KINDS of junk to buy that was fun. Weird "native" crafts and cowboy stuff, old tin signs, keychains, tacky shirts, candy. It was great. The official-looking, state issued signs proclaiming this to be the Tallulah Gorge overlook might lead you to believe that this is a scenic overlook, meaning free and ample parking with a spot to take pictures of the gorgeous vistas. Well, you'd be incorrect. There is no scenic overlook, unless you go inside the super tacky and touristy gift shop, which is the kind filled with petrified jars of "local" jam. Skip this, and pay the $5 admission to the State Park just down the road. read more

This staple has been around longer than any other business including the State Park. Real ice cream, ice cold drinks, great souvenirs including coffee mugs, postcards and t-shirts, homemade and local crafts, jams, sauces. Old school toys that you haven't seen in 40+ years, guidebooks candles birdhouses you name it. And......an absolutely stunning view from the South Rim of Tallulah Gorge. read more

This is your classic American roadside attraction. The draw is the Overlook into the gorge. The views are nice but not all that spectacular. But why you would want to stop if the experience of the little shop. It sells all kinds of local crafts. A lot of the stuff is very touristy, however they have some nice things too. It is definitely a throwback to an earlier time. Even the candies and the sodas are brands and kinds that harken back to the 40s and 50s. There's even a plaque commemorating how one of the Wallendas crossed the gorge on a tight rope in the 1970s. I would suggest you stop if you want a good dose of Americana. read more

This is natural beauty along with 1,100 stairs. If you have not enjoyed GA's state park system you are missing the beauty of North Georgia. I'm not a fan of the souther parks, but the parks in the North can be stunning. Beautiful trail with well maintained stairs. Probably worth planning for 4 hours here. read more

My family used to stop here on our way to Highlands, NC every summer when I was a kid. So for me, it's a gift that it has reopened. Now, even though I live in Chicago, I still stop here and my kids look forward to a Moon Pie and an RC Cola and the view from the porch swing. As an added bonus, Overlook BBQ which is upstairs from the store, is some of the best BBQ I have ever tasted. DO NOT pass up a taste....and you get a different view from the newly renovated upstairs porch. read more
