With no idea where we were or where to eat, we stumbled into this restaurant, completely by chance, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we walked in, the staff welcomed us with such warmth and kindness. Despite being walk-ins, with drenched clothing, they quickly found us a table, offered menus, and made us feel genuinely cared for. We noticed many of the staff spoke multiple languages. The service was prompt and attentive. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, talented, and gracious...always smiling and checking in. I've traveled quite a bit around the world, but I can honestly say I've rarely experienced service this warm and genuine. The food was absolutely delicious, well-prepared, and seemed authentically made. The restaurant itself had a cozy and inviting atmosphere. I'm incredibly thankful to the team here for turning what was initially a soggy, stressful afternoon into such a memorable experience. Highly recommend!

The chicken thigh yakitori was OK- some little bits were blackened which gave this dry bad burned aftertaste. The eel nigiri was really delicious. However the scallop nigiri tasted off, and unpleasantly bitter. The rhubarb dessert I didn't like at all, and left the whole thing. They gave me a chocolate mousse on the house because they noticed I didn't eat the dessert, but I didn't really like the mousse either. The desserts really weren't well balanced, I'd take them off the menu entirely. The cream was overwhelmingly sweet, rhubarb mushy, and crumbles perplexing. I get what they were going for with adding texture but it didn't work. The mousse was two note, raspberry and chocolate, overwhelmingly sweet. The worst part was about 10 minutes after leaving, my stomach started to hurt terribly. It was definitely something I ate there. I had horrible stomach cramps/pains and sickness following. I won't go into the details, but I didn't have anything else to eat and this came upon pretty soon after leaving the restaurant, so I'm certain it was from something there. Maybe the scallops I thought were off? I trusted all of the great reviews.. assumed they know how to handle their shellfish. Maybe the dessert? I don't know what made me sick here, and I'll spare you the details, but I'm stuck having to stay close to the bathroom now and I am not thrilled.

After a trip to Japan in 2023, I set myself the goal of trying every ramen place in Vienna. A good…read morethree years later, one thing is certain: Mochi Ramen Bar at Vorgartenmarkt has become one of my absolute favourite spots. The room is small but stylish, with plenty of seating at the bar overlooking the kitchen and the sides thrown open in summer. The staff are consistently friendly. Worth knowing: there's no reservation system -- strictly first-come, first-served -- so budget 15 to 30 minutes of waiting in the afternoon and evening. It's worth it. On to the food. The standard menu features four ramen -- shio tonkotsu, shoyu and two miso variants, one of them vegan -- alongside the usual Japanese starters like gyoza, karaage and edamame, plus desserts. The permanent menu alone is excellent, above all the shoyu wonton ramen, where the cooks absolutely nail the silky, luxurious mouthfeel of proper Japanese shoyu ramen. But where Mochi Ramen Bar truly sets itself apart are the monthly rotating specials. This is the reason I keep coming back. Every single one I've tried has been outstanding, and the range is remarkable -- these aren't small variations on a house style, they're genuinely different bowls each time. A shio clam ramen with Grammeln (Austrian pork cracklings) that somehow made a local ingredient feel completely at home in a Japanese bowl. A tori paitan with a cloudy, creamy chicken broth and sous-vide pork loin. A French-inspired bouillabaisse ramen with seafood. Asparagus ramen in spring, tsukemen dipping ramen in summer -- the specials follow the seasons, and the kitchen clearly enjoys the freedom. Whatever's on the board that month, order it. Every visit turns into a small surprise, and I've never once been disappointed. All in all: a wholehearted recommendation. It will always be worth a visit.

While waiting, we struck up a conversation with two new friends, one visiting from the US like us, and the other a local from the neighborhood, so we decided that we share a table to save time. Hearing the local's strong recommendation reassured us that we were in for something special, and they were absolutely right. Despite the late hour, the service was excellent, efficient, and attentive. Our orders, the Tonkotsu and Wan Tan Ramen, arrived fairly quickly. The broth was rich and deeply flavored, perfectly balanced without being overly salty. The noodles had just the right spring and chew, firm enough to hold their texture, yet tender enough to soak up the broth beautifully. We stayed until closing, but the staff never once made us feel rushed. Since we shared a table with 2 others, they allow splitting the bill into 3 transactions which was very accommodating. We had the perfect late night comfort meal, especially for our Asian palates craving familiar flavors while traveling through Europe. Mochi Ramen Bar truly hit the spot and was worth every minute of the wait. Our new local friend mentioned they also have their own vending machine for those looking for a quick fix, so we went to check it out afterward and it had a good selection of the restaurant's ramen bowls, ready anytime you crave it.
