The food was genuinely tasty, but oddly every dish I ordered had dill in it. Not a huge issue unless, like me, you're not the biggest fan--just a small letdown in an otherwise great meal. The dips (we had the aubergine and the feta) were full of flavor and paired beautifully with the warm, spiced pita bread--super fluffy and probably the highlight of the meal. That said, the portions for the dips were disappointingly tiny. We also had: - Mussels on toast - rich and creamy, a bit like a spicy mayo. Tasty but quite heavy. - Turbot - cooked well, with pickled cucumber adding a tangy twist. The mustard greens were great, though the clams felt a bit random. - Octopus - decent but portion was small and not especially memorable. - Cabbage side dish - surprisingly good! The pine nuts (I believe) added a lovely earthy crunch. - frozen yogurt - interesting flavor with a bit of bitterness in the yogurt. There're some seeds at the bottom which gave me a guava aftertaste! Service was the biggest downside. Our server looked surprised when we asked to order, then said someone else had to take it. Plates were being cleared while we were still eating, and we had to ask three times before finally getting the bill--20 minutes later. Overall, solid food and a great setting, but the service could use some polishing to match the standard of the kitchen.

Otherwise, you can also have a mix of salads instead. And then you can choose the meal of the day, which changes daily. The food on this counter is poor. It is even worse if you think you are paying a tenner or more for this unsatisfying food. Then you have other options like ham and cheese croissants, croque monsieur, quiche or tortilla on the following counter. This food is even worse, so stay away. However, I guess the tortilla pieces could always be used as weapons (they are like bricks of potatoe) if the staff was to encounter a tricky situation with a client ;) Now, if things are so bad, why give it 3 stars? The answer is their cakes and desserts. They are really amazing! I have tried several and I can honestly say that they are all fab! What a shame that the food is such a letdown :( So this place is clearly not one to go for lunch, but for the dessert afterwards, or for a coffee and a cake :) I would finally like to point out that the staff is ok, but should learn not to sweep the floors in the small seating area at the back when you are there trying to relax and enjoy your food.

The salad was fresh, and I loved the added herbs. Delicious! The standout was the rabbit. I had never had it before. Super tender, extremely tasty. It came with a reduction sauce that is to die for. It was garnished with roasted caramelized onions (delicious!) and a few large grilled gnocchis (I think that's what they were??). Either way, this was single handedly the most delicious restraint I've tried in London so far. One last thing I tried (but didn't grab a picture). Raspberry sorbet!! It was the perfect texture and came served on top of some cookie crumbles. Yum! I would absolutely recommend traveling out of your way to try this gem!

We tried all of the starters, the beets and feta was wonderfully simple and the calfs livers perfectly cooked (see photos for the menu). Of the five mains available, one really stood out - the slow roasted shoulder of lamb. This was melt in your mouth, tender and beautifully marinated - served with butter beans and washed down with a v nice glass of house red. Things got even better with the desert, which although sounding uninspiring, and open first look, seemed nothing special, was the best dessert I can remember having in some time. The textures were amazing, the crumbly cardamon cake, smooth sheeps milk ice cream with pistachio sprinkles and zingy pomegranate were out of this world. Get yourself down here quick. One small gripe guys - please heat your plates up as the lamb got cool very quickly!

The food was tasty, delicious and interesting, however, I felt it was overpriced - came out to about 50 pounds per person (we ordered one cocktail each and shared one bottle of wine in addition to the sharing menu.) We did enjoy our dining experience there, and I definitely recommend trying it out especially if you can score a deal. But to pay full price, I'd recommend not doing the sampling menu as I feel it didn't live up to my expectation.

It is not exactly centrally located but even if you are not familiar with the area it's worth the trip. You will definately not be disappointed with food, price or service at Bavo.
