This bar was really cool. It was packed but we still got great service. The server came by and gave us water right away. He then asked what we wanted and I wasn't quite sure so I told him I like him and sweet drinks. He can't back with a delicious drink that I really enjoyed. I love when a bartender can really play around. The ambiance was also really fun. It was dark but had lots of artwork and bikes and stuff. The chairs were also comfy. Really loved finding this spot - a lot of the bars in Barcelona seem to offer the same 5-6 cocktails (and often ones not made well), so it was refreshing finding a spot that was so well stocked and focused on making the classics well. There's no cocktail menu, so it's you'll either need to take some advice or go in with some favorites. I'm always thrilled to find a spot that can make a Last Word well without any prompting. We enjoyed that and a Manhattan and my partner sampled some scotch as well - their stock of scotches was truly impressive. Plus the ambience of the spot is wonderful - very old fashioned. We had the pleasure of checking out several of Barcelona's best craft cocktail bars during our visit, and Tandem certainly stands out among them for offering the most personalized service and thoughtfully crafted drinks. The decor vibe is very early Victorian library room, but the creations are modern! We sat at the bar, which I'd recommend because you get to chat with the awesome people who work here, but there's also a group seating area in the back. If you're looking for some artistic genius, I'd recommend going to Dr. Stravinsky's, but Tandem provided an old-fashioned ambiance with modern empathy, and I was impressed by the depth of the two bartenders' knowledge. They mentioned that the owner of Tandem really likes whiskey, so you'll find a deep and broad collection of scotch and whisky from all over the world. I gave our bartender a sense of the spirits and flavor profiles I usually liked, and he turned out an unusual, delicious, and perfectly crafted drink that was exactly what I wanted. Once we got to chatting a little more, I mentioned that I liked really bitter flavors (like Fernet Branca) and my next drink was even more amazing -- bracing, nuanced, and beautifully balanced. Don't be shy in telling them if you don't like a drink; the mixologists here want to make sure that they're serving you something that's absolutely to your tastes. Coming from NYC, I found the prices here very reasonable, about €10-12 per drink, though this is a little pricier than the €2 wine you might be used to in Barcelona. All the bartenders were smartly dressed with button-ups with ties under a grey suit vest. The place was classy! I felt transported to a distant time. This was perhaps one of the best random finds in Barcelona. An upmarket bar that is not that expensive. Its one of those places where there are no drinks menu's, so you have to talk to the barman about what you want. We tried to count, but we think there are over 800 bottles behind the bar. It gets a mixed crowd. There is a strange mix of young professionals and a much older crowd. It was a nice place with around 4-6 friends who want to grab a cocktail/ nice drink that goes beyond the gin tonic. read more

The outside of the bar does not really give away anything. You can see it's a bar, and that they seem to serve cocktails (the logo is two guys riding a tandem carrying a cocktail tray), but you need to open to door and go in to get the real picture. When you step in you enter a space that could be from the 60's. Long mahogany bar with high chairs, the wall framed with mirrors and the back of the bar decorated with bottles of spirits. The lighting is dim but not dark and they play some old music (at a low volume). The bartenders are dressed up accordingly in white suits and they are very polite, and I mean old school polite with a big P. You can almost see Don Draper (Mad Men) sitting there with his whisky. It was Mrs Gin and Mr Rum on the move again that night, keeping within our cocktail comfort zone. I ordered something fresh and sour, and my date something close to a Dark and Stormy. The bartender made the call on the ingredients. We ended up with two long cocktails, mine with cucumber, citrus fruit, basil and some soda water, and M's with lime, soda and coke. Simple ingredients, but great taste. The spirits used were smooth with no bitterness whatsoever transferring into the drink. Both cocktails set us back only 9€ each, so I would say that is a bargain. I have previously also had some Cava here, and I recall the house sparkling being of acceptable quality. All in all a wonderful bar, never empty but never too busy to turn us around at the door. It's something of a special place to me and I hope you enjoy it too if you have a chance to visit. read more

You tell the bar magician what types of drink you like, i.e. sweet, smokey, tart, etc... they make notes and then bring you the best drink you've EVER had! A must visit if you are in Barcelona. It was a sweet and sour drink paired with sour candies, super delicious but not overly sweet. He was super awesome and my group ordered three more drinks there which were also amazing, including a Negroni which was his favorite. Such an unexpected spot to come across, walked past this subtle bar while heading to foc i oli a burger joint. Here we enjoyed one of the best mojitos I've ever had, and we've tried them everywhere in Barcelona, my boyfriend had a tequila drink with fresh ginger, couldn't tell you the name but ask the bartender and he'll know what you're talking about. Barcelona is so cool. During one of the last days of a one-week vacation we were looking for a place to have an afternoon drink, and Yelp led us to Tandem. Tandem is a dark and classically appointed cocktail bar, with a pretty simple gimmick-- no menu. You simply describe what kind of drink you want to the bartender, with whatever degree of specificity you want (i.e.-- I'd like a refreshing aperitif that also has whiskey in it, but I don't like Campari... etc. etc.). This process sounds conversation intensive, I know, so if you don't speak Spanish or Catalan, rest assured that the bartenders speak quite good English and won't be offended if that's how you want to talk to them. My drinking companion and I passed a good while here, each having two drinks that were astonishingly creative and delicious. The bartenders were more than happy to share the ingredients with me, but I haven't been able to reproduce them at home (YET I'll keep trying) because, well, they're just really really good at what they do. I think this is a must visit just for experience alone. read more

This place was close to our hotel and it looked good so we gave it a shot. We almost walked right by it as there is nothing impressive on the outside. I was surprised walking in as it was not what I expected at all. It's a very classy, kind of quiet, speak easy type place. Luckily we were dressed nicely coming from dinner, but a little bit after a casual group came in and made us feel better. The place is small with about 10-15 seats at the bar and a little seating area in the back. The bartenders were truly talented and professional, they put on a show for each drink they made. They have probably close to a thousand bottles of liquor on the wall. I read a review before going here that they don't have a drink menu and you just have to tell them what kind of drink you're looking for such as "dark and sour". While there wasn't a drink menu that's not really true, if you know what you want you can order it. The whiskey sours were incredible. The gin and tonics are huge! They literally poured like 3 shots of gin into a big glass and it took my girl friend over a half hour to drink it. However, they take their time making drinks and you might have to wait a little bit if they are a little busy. Drinks were about 9-10 euro each but it is well worth it. The vibe is a little weird though as I felt like the bartenders were judging/talking about everyone the whole time we were there and we felt a little uncomfortable. It was the best whiskey sour I ever had but I probably wouldn't go back, but its worth a shot if your looking for a funky place with awesome drinks and maybe you'll have a better experience. read more
