This restaurant has been around for ages, even earning accolades such as Gordon Ramsey's Best Chinese Eatery. However, management has apparently changed and the owners fell on hard times recently. You can't really tell the restaurant has had problems, however. The food was excellent when we went and the service was outstanding. We ordered the tasting menu, as we'd never been to Yu & You before and wanted to try a bit of everything. Prices are a bit high for the area, so maybe save this place for a date night. There is a full bar and plenty of dishes to choose from. I think our favorite dish was the lobster, but honestly everything was lovely. We had a lot of extra food as well, so it was nice to take our leftovers to-go for a cold Chinese food breakfast in the morning ;) Definitely recommend this location for those in the area. The food is high-quality and it's a fun place to celebrate or spend time with friends and loved ones!

The overall impression is that it is over-staffed by young inexperienced staff. As a consequence basic service is very good, but if you ask a question, they have to go and get an elder to sort it out. The menu was rather uninformative: there are only three pork main dishes for example but only one gets a description Honey Roasted Char Sui Pork served with fresh greens. We ordered Thai Style Crispy Pork (no further description). What we got was something that looked remarkably like sweet and sour pork with extra chilli. Four of us had a selection of appetisers (Crispy Wan Ton, Seaweed, Sesame Prawn Toast, Salt & Pepper Ribs); Crispy Duck with 11 pancakes (doesn't divide by 4); Thai Style Crispy Pork, Fillet Steak Cantonese Style, Stir Fried Chicken with Black Bean sauce, Egg Fried Rice and Soft Noodles. The dishes were all tasty, but some of the vegetables were perhaps a little under-cooked: almost raw. Again the service was good: they allowed us to change Steamed Sea Bass for Thai Style Crispy Pork, and allowed us to change the Egg Fried Rice to a mixture of rice and Soft Noodles. The food was good, not the best Chinese I've ever had, but definitely amongst the best: my problem is the cost. I don't know if it has gone up since winning the Restaurant of the Year accolade, but it is certainly very dear now. The winning menu is available which includes a Wagyu (a.k.a. Kobe) beef dish and costs £80 per head. We chose something more modest: the above banquet for four people, a bottle of water and a relatively modest bottle of wine came to a substantial £170+ bill. Individual dishes don't seem too dear, but it all seems to add up rather alarmingly. The restaurant has a slight night-club feel with a large bar area and strange choice of background music and a good sized car park. Overall: a good meal, copious inexperienced staff, expensive bill. If it was better value it would be 4*, as it is three will have to do.

We ate as follows: Spicy/Salty Mushrooms - Divine Crispy Seaweed - Just as we remembered it Noodles with beansprouts - Fantastic, light and tasty Sea Bass with Ginger and Spring Onion - Divine, light and flaky Crispy Shredded Beef in Cantonese Sauce - Too much sauce, the beef was not crispy, the sauce was delicious but half the amount would have done and this is how we would order it next time. All washed down with cold sake and house white. Too much food for 2 but we ate it all! Service was flexible and friendly. The bill came to $85 - the quality was more than worth this.

Ocean Palace was one of the three suggested. When I arrived at the large restaurant Saturday night around 6:00 p.m., the place was fairly empty -- one couple, one large family with kids. Normally, this would concern me -- crowds are an indicator of good food, especially at meal times, right? -- but since it was off-season, that was perhaps to be expected, and since I had that recommendation, I went for it. The servers were professional, and the food came quickly. I ordered hot and sour soup, roast duck with plum sauce, and fried rice. Funny thing -- I somehow expected the hot and sour soup to be different than the hot and sour soup I get back in the U.S., but I guess it's the same all over. I felt as if I was at home. The duck surprised me, though. I guess I expected a dry-roasted duck with sauce either on the side or drizzled over the slices, but instead, the slices of duck were sitting in a bowl of plum sauce. Not that I'm complaining ... I was just surprised. The meat was moist, the sauce lightly flavored, not overpowering the duck. I'd definitely go back to explore a little deeper into the menu when next in Blackpool.

The banquet for 4 was delicious, there nothing we didnt like and we polished off the lot . The price was very reasonable for the 4 of us including a bottle of wine and other drinks, and I would highly recommend this classy Cantonese to others. After we were made aware that it was a cantonese restaurant, we agreed we would try it out one night. The evening we visited was on a Sunday in April, the place was empty which put us off slightly as we seem to find that quiet places are not very popular, but we made the assumption that it was in fact the Easter weekend. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the sounds of Chinese music playing on the system is just about right to still have a conversation with the people you are dining with. I won't go into boring detail about the food, but it was delicious and cooked to perfection, we had 2 courses each and had no room for anything else. Two small suggestions would be to add toothpicks on the table, we had spare ribs for starters and had bits stuck between out teeth, also the packed hand wipes could be replaced by hot wet towels on a plate, this is not a criticism though, just a personal preference of mine. The staff are lovely, definitely service with a smile and made us feel very welcome, we have now been at least five times and the place has been a lot busier than our first time and if you need anything then all you need to do is look over to the service area and they are straight over. I wouldn't say Lou Shang was the best cantonese restaurant I have tried, but it definitely is in the top 1.

The only site we could seem to find the Menu was through Take-A-Way.co.uk So firstly we order - Won Ton Soup - £2.80 Beef & Tomato Soup - £2.50 (NOT one piece of Beef in the whole cold soup) Crispy Beef - Cantonese £6.20 (So little portion with more onion than meat and Crispy is the understatement of the Year, it was cold and nearly broke a molar on the stuff) Chips - £2.00, Cold, sweaty and looking suicidal. Curry Sauce - £1.50 (Not Ideal and no taste but was likely the best part of the meal as it at least warmed the cold side orders we were truly relying on). Now please keep in mind these are prices on their site, so with basic Maths this equals £15.00 even. I asked how much was the bill and they say £17.60. I was confused but just figured maybe they were throwing in some prawn crackers or a large Crispy beef instead of the small as the line wasn't the quietest call I have ever witnessed. I also realise that I might have to pay a £1.50 Delivery charge, but even this does NOT add up. So the lady arrives and hands me the package, I thought they would likely amend the cost after the miscommunication but this wasn't to be. She asked for £17.60, (not £16.50 inc del) As the rain was pouring and the delivery lady seemed pleasant, I added another £1 for her troubles and shut the door. I wish I had opened the bag before she left but the monsoon and the lack of need for the dish to be any colder, I decided to patiently wait until I was inside my own kitchen - silly me! £18.60 which for a very poor meal is not ideal for two hungry adults who threw most of the food into the Bin. We would have fed it to the Dog, but we have far too much respect for live animals than to torture them with this horrific food, (using this word very lightly) This miserable food was terrible, we ate what we could salvage after microwaving the best parts of the order, but the Beef/Tomato Soup, which was basically cold cabbage was completely left. The crispy beef ended up in the trash as I recently broke a tooth and did not need another heavy expense for eating these dried up shoelaces we were given. Even the 60% Ratio of onions and sad sauce couldn't bring these back into a hydrated state. After rewarming the Won Tom Soup was edible and the weak curry sauce just added more moisture and a little heat to the soggy lonely fries. This is unacceptable and daylight robbery, at least when Robin Hood would steal from the Rich, he gave it to the poor, I have a feeling this went into the owners pocket and the tip was likely taken from the poor delivery lady as she didn't bring him home my TV or the bike outside in my garden shed. I will not be recommending this Restaurant or the site as either the prices on the menu are not correct or somebody is over charging somebody in hopes they won't notice. I noticed! Jokers. The parking lot is quite large, so lots of parking spots available. There is also a supermarket located in the basement floor of the restaurant. Upon entering, I noticed it looked a bit dated. All of the lights are probably very, incredibly dusty... most likely hasn't been cleaned since the day they opened. Lots of lights, but still managed to have very dim lighting. We went for the 8 course dinner set, which you can choose 8 dishes to get out of the many dishes they offer for this set. Let me preface first that I am from Boston and definitely have had New England/Maine lobster BUT I honestly never realized how good our lobsters are. The ginger scallion stir fried lobster with yee mein was a generous portion, but taste wise I couldn't get down with it. The lobster has a bad aftertaste that kind of just lingers & the yee mein was not actually even yee mein... plus could've been more flavorful. The best dishes I found they had were the duck & the soup. I think it's quite difficult to mess up on both those dishes though, to be frank. The worst dish I had here was the chicken. Everyone at our table agreed that it was extremely dry & barely edible. Cleanliness: One thing that I am always looking for and super mindful of when I first sit down to eat at a restaurant is how clean are their utensils? How clean are the plates & bowls? etc. Plates were pretty dirty, bowls were fine for soup, & utensils-- it is a good thing they do single use wooden chopsticks. Overall, their food is not great but also good Chinese food in England is either really hard to find or doesn't exist. The Chinatown in Liverpool is a ghost town and looks abandoned , so my guess is that good, authentic Chinese food must be rare to come by.

A brief history of Chinatown favourites…read more..... I was introduced to real Chinees food - I mean proper Chinese food, not gwailo-style, westernised stuff - in the late eighties, by my old friend Ronnie Chan. Ronnie and I would go weekly to Win Wah on Portland Street, an astoundingly cheap place where dishes cost £3-4, and I learned very quickly to use chopsticks (out of necessity - otherwise Ronnie would have eaten all the grub before I had any chance). Then Ronnie moved back to Hong Kong, Win Wah disappeared, and I was in the wilderness. After some years of searching, I found a new home at Wong Chu. Cheap, no-nonsense, with high-quality offerings - the noodle dishes, and the duck / pork / squid were always spot-on, I wandered the streets, checked the menus, and tried the other places - but always found myself returning to Wong Chu, because it was cheaper and better than the competition. I dined there hundreds of times. One Saturday morning in 2001, I opened my newspaper and saw the headline "Hacked to Death by Triad Maniacs". It was Mr Wong and his family. I'd seen Mrs Wong go through her two pregnancies, watched her kids scurry excitedly around the place, and I was devastated. But the restaurant re-opened, now managed by Mr Wong's adult daughter from a previous marriage, and continued to deliver great dining..... for another 5 or 6 years. Then it went into a sad decline - I have no idea why - and by the end, it was a pale shadow of its former self. Back to the wilderness. Now I have a new home in Chinatown. As good as Win Wah & Wong Chu at their respective peaks, with the same format - no-frills, low-end prices, but great quality, a relaxed and friendly informal atmosphere, and a menu of Hong Kong-style Chinese dishes that are a world away from the MSG-laden gwailo junk that's so ubiquitous in UK Chinese restaurants, Fu's is the real deal. Welcome home.

My favourite is the fish stew, done hot pot style and just so delicious you'd happily force yourself to eat too. Combos and sauces you might not have encountered before are the order of the day here and the creativity pays dividends. The secret trick here is not to be given the blue menu. They'll automatically pass it on if they think you're English, but it's the red one you want; that's what harbours all the wonderful stuff. The drinks are interesting too, especially the traditional Hong Kong iced tea, it's uber refreshing. And with wicked prices and smart service to boot, this is one gem you should ensure won't stay hidden long. Get stuck in.
