My son really developed a strong foundation in the fundamentals. We also loved the facilities. They're clean, modern, and a huge step above the typical strip mall-style gyms you often find around LA. If you're looking for a great place for your kids to get into grappling, this is it.

What initially drew us in was the care and attention that both professors give to each of the classes. I have long been curious about jiujitsu but it was also very intimidating. What finally motivated me to begin was the women's self defense classes on Sundays. It is open to all women regardless of previous experience (or in my case no experience) and Professor Amanda does a great job of making the classes fun, informative and challenging. The other women in the class are equally wonderful and inviting! The kids classes are also incredibly well structured and engaging. The instruction and care that goes into each class is evident by how much the kids enjoy participating and also how much of the new instructions they retain. We're so grateful for the amazing community that Amanda and Gabe have created!

I mainly train with Professor Robert, but I've also taken classes with the other instructors -- every single one of them is extremely knowledgeable and has a unique ability to break down complex concepts into something that's easy to understand, even for beginners. What really stands out is how welcoming the community is. From experienced members to complete beginners, everyone is encouraging, helpful, and makes you feel right at home from day one. The facility is always clean, and having showers on site is a huge plus! The sense of community here is second to none -- you don't just learn jiu-jitsu, you become part of a family. If you're on the fence about trying Gracie Barra Glendale, let this be your sign to give it a shot. You won't regret it!

We worked some good half-guard sweeps and principles and did some fun positional sparring to put the skills to practice. Great welcoming culture with diverse skill ranges and backgrounds. The facilities were super nice, the mats were clean and in great shape (despite the street construction which necessitated the front of the building be boarded up, so you may need to enter through the back). And it was nice to have showers to clean up before my 4 hour drive back home. Bonus for great location with lots of good post-training food options to get protein and carbs! Would happily recommend this to anyone visiting LA, or looking for a new place to train in the Glendale neighborhood! Great family feel. Will visit again for sure!

It got to be too many kids and not enough instructors or adequate supervision for their summer program. My kids got to a point where they dreaded going to class, which is when I knew it was time to stop going. We took them to several other Gracie Barra locations but they didn't enjoy the instructors so I thought we were done with Jiu Jitsu until we found Total Jui Jitsu. To our surprise, we found that a lot of the coaches and families also left Gracie Barra in Burbank for the same reasons and so my boys knew a lot of the kids in the class. Great kids and wonderful families. The Total Jui Jitsu coaches aren't yellers, which creates a really chill environment and there is serious focus on good form, respect, and execution. All the things I expect and they over-deliver in each and every class. They won't allow kids to get distracted and ensure they are truly learning the techniques the right way. If they see a child performing the moves incorrectly, they immediately step in to coach and correct so the kids don't injure themselves or others. The kids really respond to the coaches' positive and encouraging approach and I can definitely see it in my boys faces after class; they beam with pride. I am so thrilled that they were able to rekindle the love of Jui Jitsu. I highly recommend this Jui Jitsu studio for any family looking to have their children participate in a fun sport, learn self-defense, build confidence with supportive instructors, and have a lot of fun while doing it.

I filled out the form on the Total website, and the next day Coach Kyle promptly contacted me to fill me in on the program. Highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to start training or join a new community.

My intimidation melted away when I heard the stories of women like me who has needed to use self-defense in their real lives. The class teaches real life moves for real life scenarios and helps you to maintain calm and focus so that you can get yourself out, get away and get help. I especially appreciated that we would be paired up with people who are very different in size and height from us, it didn't feel like a cookie cutter program. Having a male in the class to practice 'choking out' our attacker was the highlight of the class for me! Very empowering! I would recommend this class to all of my friends, high school and college aged ladies, even as a business team building exercise.

After the second week of the class I knew that I wanted to pursue Jiu Jitsu. This class really helped build my self confidence and make me feel that in a terrible situation I could act in a way to get myself out of it. The camaraderie in the six week class got stronger each week!!! The only down side was how fast the six weeks go by. I would recommend this class to any women out there regardless of age. It's only six weeks, do it.
