    Very nice, shy woman. The taquitos are 1 peso and are very tasty. We got a b of ten the first time then went back for another.

The chocolate is piping hot, and you can enjoy it sitting somewhere by the plaza. My partner really likes his churros filled, so we tried a few varieties. We tried rompope (like a spiked eggnog), which was creamy and had a nice kick. Later tried the cajeta (goat milk caramel), and my boyfriend the lechera (like a condensed milk)- the cajeta was lighter and sweeter than I expected. I think our fav was actually the rompope, which we also hadn't seen made elsewhere. Honestly, there's nothing like a fresh fried churro. When in doubt just grab a bag of the plain. You can see them frying them to order, and with huge pots of chocolate. I recommend the chocolate with milk over the one with water. Might as well go all in. The churros are crisp and sugary on the outside and a little moist in the inside. Definitely an institution.

It was the place that chef Pati Jinich proclaimed as the best churro purveyor in town on her PBS TV series. Located just a block east of the city's social hub, Jardín Allende, the cafe was quite chaotic on early Saturday evening. No surprise there was a lengthy queue. While it was moving quickly, the menu was nowhere to be seen. By the time we got to the counter, I just improvised our order on the spot. We went with a couple of the MX$120 French Chocolate sets which afforded us both a Hot Chocolate and a Cajeta-Flled Churro. We added two MX$11 Plain Churros just because we wanted to try their signature item. The advantage lies in the freshness. The churros come right out of the fryer and into the bowl dusted with sugar and cinnamon. The contrast between the crispy, sweet exterior and the soft dough is what makes the churro stand out. The cajeta added sweet indulgence, but truth be told, the plain version was decadent enough on its own (Photo 9). This was especially true when we dipped the churros into the rich, piping hot chocolate (Photo 8). Luckily, we were able to snag a cafe table that became available. It was only when we sat down that we noticed the full extent of their menu which includes empanadas, enchiladas, and Mexican breakfast plates. We also saw all the framed posters and magazine covers on the walls and realized they all featured the owner, famous soap opera actress Margarita Gralia, Mexico's answer to Susan Lucci. Conveniently located on the cobblestoned artery between our hotel and Zona Centro's social hub, Jardin Allende, this three-floor cafe was compact but surprisingly relaxing given the constrained layout of the seating. The cafe's name translates appropriately to "good aromas" since the roasted beans wafted throughout the space. On our first visit, we arrived in the middle of the afternoon and treated ourselves to the MX$85 Affogato, a nice combo of vanilla gelato and an espresso shot (Photo 10). We came back the following morning when the place was literally percolating with customers. This time we shared a table on the rooftop. What I appreciated was how the owner had no compunction about telling laptoppers not to monopolize tables clearly set up for multiple people. This time we had true beverages with their own twists. I had the MX$60 Cococcino, a cappuccino with a touch of coconut oil, and Jamie went for the MX$70 Iced Buzz Latte with honey and a double espresso shot (Photo 9). Both perfectly satisfied because beyond the quality of the beans, we saw the exacting process they followed in their execution. It was a smooth brew in a chill space that was obviously attracting a lot of expats. I wish we had more time for a third visit. My husband got the pour over. Not the best he's had, but still solid. His enfrijoladas though? Really good. My omelette hit the spot too. Service was great. Easy, relaxed morning. Will be back.

After much debate, I decided to go with the pan dulce to share with my sister as a dessert after our meal, and I'm so glad I did. Not only was the pan dulce absolutely delicious, but the kindness of the owners made the experience even more special. It was only 13 pesos, but we only had a 500-peso bill, so they generously gave it to us for free. We felt bad, so we gave them $1 USD as a small thank-you, but their generosity truly stood out. Pan Dulce itself - It was perfect--the custard filling wasn't overly sweet and had a slightly gelatinous texture that I really enjoyed. The outside was super crispy, and the sugar coating added just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect treat to end our lunch! Between the amazing pastries and the wonderful hospitality, I would absolutely come back and recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic and delicious pan dulce.
