Going with the pineapple pastry, we thought the flavors were very good: perfect amount of sweetness and a fresh tasty pineapple filling. However, the dough seemed a little undercooked and there wasn't enough filling for the amount of dough. Otherwise, the experience of picking your dessert is so fun and this spot is a great example of a panaderia with homemade baked goods! La Colmena has an incredible selection of pastries and bread--I didn't even know where to start because everything looked so delicious! After much debate, I decided to go with the pan dulce to share with my sister as a dessert after our meal, and I'm so glad I did. Not only was the pan dulce absolutely delicious, but the kindness of the owners made the experience even more special. It was only 13 pesos, but we only had a 500-peso bill, so they generously gave it to us for free. We felt bad, so we gave them $1 USD as a small thank-you, but their generosity truly stood out. Pan Dulce itself - It was perfect--the custard filling wasn't overly sweet and had a slightly gelatinous texture that I really enjoyed. The outside was super crispy, and the sugar coating added just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect treat to end our lunch! My first time at a bakery in Mexico and I was floored. I absolutely love how they displayed all their different baked goods, although there was no price on anything. There must have been at least 20+ different items when we got there. We got a Conos Rellenos de Crema and it was delicious! I feel like usually I'm not a big fan of custard in the US desserts as it is traditionally way too sweet, but this one was perfect. The cream was very light which went well with the pastry that was both perfectly bread-y and flaky. I wish I had more stomach space to try more pastries! Overall, fantastic pastry. The pastry turned out to be 13 pesos and unfortunately at the time, we only had a 500 bill which then they actually insisted on us just getting the pastry for free as they didn't have enough change for us. It was actually so kind of them to do. We ended up just giving them a dollar, but that initial gesture was actually so unbelievably kind. read more

Great little local bakery. We went several times during our visit. Their cookies are amazing! We tried several different ones and they were light and delicious with a hint of citrus. The pastries were amazing as well! When you enter, you pick up a tray with tongs and select your own, then take it to the register to pay. Cash only, and great prices. read more

Empanada de pollo was delicious. I like a crispy and flaky crust and this one was just that. It could use a little more filling. I also had a bite of the cinnamon roll which was perfect. I took one from the middle of the tray, it was soft and yummy. read more
