It was my second time going to this great resturant, and it did not disappoint. I was excited to share it with my friend, we enjoy nice restaurants, nice, clean environments and great food. We were very pleased with our pretheatre experience. It was quiet, efficient, it was tasty, it was special and we got to the theatre on time! I would highly recommend this gem for special events out. The wait staff is well trained and knows exactly what to recommend for what you're hungry for. They have seafood, salads and pasta! The Tiramisu is not to be missed. This was our first time at Tarantelli's and what a great night! We went early because we were heading over to Thailan Hall later. Made a reservation for 5:30 and there were a few other tables already seated when we got there. Our server couldn't have been better, she was friendly, attentive and helpful. But let's get to the best part....THE FOOD! Oh the food! We got the Spaghetti al Formaggio Parmigiana and we were so happy that we did. It's for two and they prepare it next to the table in a giant wheel of Parmesan. So in addition to being delicious it's pretty fun too! We added 2 meatballs and they were really good but the meal was already plenty of food, so they weren't necessary. We had a great bottle of wine to compliment the pasta, I can't remember the name but it was a Tuscan blend that our server recommended (like I said, she was awesome!). Topped everything off with a cannoli, and you should too! So, we had heard from so many people how great Tarantelli's is and to be honest we were a little nervous that it might be getting a little over hyped. Nope! Everything everyone said was true. We came back in to Tarantelli's a little before 9 on a Thursday and the restaurant was completely empty - not a good sign. I wanted to give it some time to see how the first month of operation effected Tarantelli's, and when we came back in, it was sadly, more of the same song second verse. The bar area had better lighting which I appreciated and the restaurant is still big and new with a very nice ambiance, but the price point and everything else is still exactly the same. Still expensive drinks, still expensive mains, and shockingly- no specials. You would be hard pressed to find another restaurant at Tarantelli's price point that doesn't have specials in Wilmington, or doesn't tell you about them when you first walk in. We ordered the meatball appetizer which was tasty and the pizza which was pretty good too, but it came out a bit slow. Similar to our previous outing a month ago, they had a limited dessert menu, cannolis and gelato or desserts that contained gelato were the only options. No tiramisu, no cheesecake, no mascarpone or panna cotta- all which would have complimented the "fine dinning" vibe the restaurant seems to be going for. We are from San Diego and we can get fantastic Italian food all over our county. I wasn't crazy driving over an hour to get to this restaurant that Our family members wanted to try. I read over 20 reviews and it was kind of mixed! A lot of people said it was overpriced for what you got. I found it to be perfectly priced and delicious in every bite! Since the reviewers enjoyed the fillet bruschetta, we ordered that and another yummy appetizer, stuffed with mushrooms which had the most divine sauce! Two at our table ordered the chef special, I got the eggplant parmigiana with a side of their homemade pasta of the day! The portions are huge! We all brought food home! The sauce was so tasty, and the noodles were the best of my life! We also ordered a pizza, but I had no room to try anything else! I really wanted to try their desserts that were recommended, but I was already rolling out of that restaurant! It was a drizzly night and not an ideal time to see Beautiful Wilmington, but I am really glad that we drove over two hours round-trip to go there! read more

I made reservations 2 weeks prior to reservation date. We got there and they said we didn't have a reservation. The hostess said she could get us a table in 20 minutes. She sat us at a dark table in the bar area. No one came to wait on us for at least 15-20 minutes. I had to ask hostess if someone was going to take care of us. We finally had a server come take care of us. It was a very disappointing experience. It was a reunion of friends who had not seen each other in 2 years. It was supposed to be a special night. I want to share my experience with buying gift card from Clover for Tarantelli's. My son purchased gift card for my birthday was all excited been wanting to eat at Tarantelli's for a while. Well, I neither received a gift card or received any help from Jason that is the guy that is supposed to help you out if you have problem with the gift cards works at Tarantelli's. This is my favorite Italian food spot in Wilmington...Roko, Osteria, all the others are way overrated mostly due to the fact that southerners don't understand good Italian food. It isnt my favorite pizza spot, not that their pizza is bad, but for Italian food it is the best. The cheese wheel pasta is awesome, arancini I'd amazing...but don't sleep on the gremolata flank steak...perfectly cooked, beautiful sauce. Nice old school atmosphere, but I dont really rate places based on atmosphere or "performance during covid," get over yourselves people, we're all dealing with covid. Ohhhh...underrated dish is the sage and brown butter pasta (I forget the actual name of it). But I've never had a bad meal there. They are true Italians that know how to bring out Italian flavors. Even if u just like simple Italian dishes (which I do) u can't go wrong with their spaghetti and meatballs, or a sausage and pasta dish. Desert...try the affogato. Also the staff is cool as h×ll. I called last week regarding a potential reservation for Valentine's Day. The individual who answered the phone stated there was no availability, which I understood. However, 2 others I know were able to get a same day reservation which is unacceptable and unprofessional customer service as the host did not indicate anything such as a wait list or cancellation list. My fiancé and I came here after ordering some pizza to go a few days back. We were so excited! Even made our reservation wayyyy in advance. Well when we got there we were sat right by the kitchen door. Normally that would be fine. However, when you're spending big money on a bottle of wine and food that's on the more expensive side you think they would be a little more accommodating. We told the waitress about our struggle with the door constantly opening and closing, while a bright light would shine in our face. She said there's absolutely nothing she could do.. even though the restaurant had a ton of tables open. She then explained those were for upcoming reservations. My issue was that she could move us and seat two were we were (but I'm sure she knew nobody wanted that table). She also let us know that she's has issues with people sitting there in the past. We unfortunately got up and left and went over to Port City chop house. She lost a tip and the restaurant not only lost 2 customers but all of our potential friends and family that we take out. Decided to try something new. Used Open Table to set a 5:00 PM reservation since we had tickets to a show downtown. Arrived 5 minutes early and they didn't open till 5:00 and made us wait outside till a couple of minutes after 5:00. Empty restaurant and we got a table in the middle of the room on hard metal chairs. Appetizer was good; Calamari was better than other Italian restaurants we go to regularly. Spinach Artichoke dip was very tasty, but the artichoke heart pieces were fairly large, great flavor though. Wine selection was OK. The Tommasi blend was good, $11.00 a glass is a little stout though. Entrees were the Braciole and the Veal Piccata. Veal was tasty but didn't enjoy the Braciole. Both were a little tough. Not sure if we will try again, didn't seem to be worth the cost. $180. For three people and that included 4 glasses of wine, that makes 3 entrees and 2 appetizers cost around $100.00. read more

This has been hands down the best meal I have ever had at any restaurant in the US and is even up there with restaurants I visited in Italy. I was in Wilmington for 4th of July weekend and made a reservation for a Friday night. The restaurant was romantic but relaxed and the service was excellent. I don't have words to describe how good the food was! I ordered the Rigatoni alla Bechamel and I never wanted it to end. Every single bite was like a flavor explosion in my mouth. The sauce was so decadent and the saltiness of the prosciutto cut through it perfectly. My friend ordered the Sicilian Braciole and loved it. I also took a bite and it was so good. I also had the tiramisu for dessert and it melted in my mouth. I cannot wait to come back and eat here again. I'm not one to make a negative review. However, my wife and I had our first complaint the other night. We were at the bar ordering our usual drinks and a plate of dessert. Our bartender had to ask permission for my wife and i to have a dessert with our drinks at the bar. It wasn't even our meal! Just a simple dessert! Anyway, we were denied eating at the bar. I could tell our bartender was doing what she could to just simply serve us but the older lady said no?! Ambience was great, but it sort of took a turn. A group of girlfriends and I went for dinner with a primary intention of ordering the Spaghetti Al Formaggio Parmigiana, due to that being so highly recommended on other reviews we've seen. The wine was great, bar service was great, the food that we received initially was great, however two hours into our meal after most patrons were gone, our other food was done and we hadn't seen our server in over 45 min, our server came up to the table to ask if we needed anything else....we asked when our remaining pasta was coming, he looked at us perplexed before realizing that we had, in fact, ordered the pasta dish. He quickly ran off and came back with the cart and attempted to make the dish rather quickly. The dish turned out to be quite disappointing, cold, no flavor, and executed poorly. Had we known the order was never put in, we probably would have just declined the dish and went on with our night. We never received any sort of apology for the delay or even admission from the server that he forgot. I get it, mistakes happen, but he should have immediately apologized let us know what happened. And if he was going to make the dish half-heartedly, I would rather have just not received it at all. read more

Uncomfortable chairs, made of metal, which made my butt freeze, especially near the drafty door. 2. Horrible fluorescent lighting in the ladies room, and no background music in there. 3. Absolutely flavorless veal marsala, with no hint of any marsala. Too heavily battered. Too chewy and not tenderized enough. Had to send it back. 4. Flavorless pasta primavera (or whatever the pasta was with the squash, asparagus, peppers, etc.) No flavor whatsoever, even with salt added. Had to send it back. 5. The red wine that we ordered was not the red wine that we received, though it was the same brand. We had ordered a silver-medal winner at the bar, and we asked for the same one at the table. We got a different one. We would try it again, but, we were surprised that no manager came to our table to apologize, as is the norm in most nicer restaurants. We thought that a manager should have tasted the food that we sent back. After all, when you are charging $32 for a dinner, and patrons are not impressed, Management should be concerned with that. read more

Fantastic! That is the only word that I can think of to describe Tarantelli's Restaurant. My daughter wanted an Italian meal after getting married on Kure Beach. I was working with Jason to create a nice meal for about 22 people and he was so very helpful. The food was amazing, the calamari was the best I've ever had. The desserts were delicious also. Tonight was our first time visiting. The atmosphere is great and our server was very helpful. I wanted a pizza and was told the chef had not prepared dough for the day. Therefore, no pizzas were available ( they are $16-$20 ish) I ordered the shrimp pasta "special" dish ($38) and had to ask for Parmesan cheese instead of being offered it. It was a nice portion but not worth $38 and did not include a salad. My husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs ($28), no salad. His meal was a good portion but it was cold when it arrived. Our friend ordered a chicken, sausage gnocchi dish. It arrived without the chicken. I think that for the price point this should have been a much better experience. Wilmington has so many choices. We decided to drive from Myrtle Beach and go to Wilmington and have diner as my wife had never been to NC. We by chance saw Tarantelli's, checked Yelp 4 out of 5 stars so we stopped. My wife and I had reservations for 8:00. We got there early and sat in some Adirondack chairs outside, "cocktail area" or something, and had drinks while we waited. Mojitos were great, don't think you can eat in the "cocktail Adirondack area." Anyways, we were seated at about 815, got the Filet Bruschetta app which was awesome. I got the filet mignon, comes with asparagus and roasted potatoes, my wife got a short rib ravioli. Both were great, I've never had a better steak. Tiramisu for dessert, we've had better tiramisu but it was good. 5 stars for the service, our waiter was Tyler, and the app and entrees. The tiramisu was good, but not as creamy as others I've had, maybe the ladyfingers need to soak longer.? We will definitely go back. It is expensive, $150 without tip, but that was $40 in alcohol and the filet was the most expensive meal I saw. Still worth it. read more

It was sadly bland and weak. That's my only complaint. I had a wine which was fantastic. We split a salad which was $2 to do so. Not much I know but a fee for splitting always seems ridiculous to me. But the salad was awesome as well. Everything coated evenly and not to heavy. Fresh salad and toppings. I ordered the mushroom pasta dish "Fungi" something. It had homemade wide flat pasta. It was a touch al dente for me. But not a big deal at all. The cream sauce and mushrooms were amazing. My wife got lasagna with homemade pasta. The house made bolognese sauce was sooo good!! Then dessert was a fantastic tiramisu. I cannot recommend this place enough. Ignore the reviews that say bland or no flavor food. Everything was fresh and very flavorful. Our experience here was wonderful from start to finish. It was so good, we didn't want to leave. The food was outstanding as well as the service. Delicious portions were generous. The bread, salad (I had the romaine wedge with pancetta and freshly made buttermilk blue cheese dressing) main meal (short ribs with creamy potatoes and broccoli rabe) were all delicious as well as the complementary cannolis (our anniversary). Lots of signs of trouble in this place. First, my girlfriend was served her shrimp scampi by the owner who's hand was (not exaggerating) gushing blood. He didn't know he had a cut on his hand and both hands were covered in blood which got on the plate. He didn't notice, only we pointed it out. Secondly, I ordered the arugula salad and what I got was literally a head of kale on a plate with tomatoes and some dressing underneath. The chicken that I added came on the side and was very dry. My friends peach salad had 3 tiny peaches and zero chicken, which they insisted was in there but we found none. The shrimp scampi was completely flavorless. And with all those mistakes it took almost an hour to receive the food. Avoid this overpriced mistake. read more
