I ended up firing him after giving him over $3,000.00 with absolutely no results. First of all, he didn't remember to take my dad's death certificate to the hearing in order to get a temporary administrator appointed. The administrator called me from the courthouse informing me Mr. Downing didn't have the death certificate and the judge couldn't proceed without it. Well, I'm in Oregon and wasn't sure what to do since they were in Texas. We had waited weeks for this hearing and Mr. Downing wasn't prepared! Meanwhile, I was paying for his time while he had my representative call ME to ask me what to do. Eventually we got that straightened out and the next step was for my representative to get a bond. Mr. Downing sent him on a wild goose chase to a city an hour away to a place didn't even exist. Mr. Downing completely disregarded my desire to file my copy of my dad's will with the courthouse, as well as contacting the three witnesses of my dad's will to verify that it was valid. He seemed fearful to talk to anyone on the phone and actually get anything meaningful accomplished, I sent Mr. Downing emails asking specific questions. He rarely answered my questions and I got to the point where I had to highlight my questions and remind him at the end of the email to please answer my highlighted questions. He didn't do it. Sometimes I wouldn't get responses to my emails for up to ten days, and even then they were vague, misinformed and useless. Mr. Downing always seemed confused and ignorant. In nearly all of our correspondence, his pat answer was "I'm not sure" or "I don't know". I ended up spending nearly 1000 hours of my time doing research and legwork for my case. I researched nearly everything Charles Downing should have known about and I informed him on many things he was clueless about (common-law marriage requirements, etc). My dad's "partner" was selling his estate and belongings right under the heir's noses and Charles Downing didn't have any ideas what to do about it. Once, Mr. Downing promised to send documents and many weeks later, after I hadn't received anything from him and contacted him about it, he simply said he had forgotten to send them. Basically I paid him $3,000.00 to draft one letter to the opposing party. He dropped the ball in every way, shape and form after that. Mr. Downing should be disbarred.

The Frio River flows through the center of Uvalde County, and trust me- when the temperatures are in the 100's, a Frio river is always a plus. There's Garner State Park in the middle of the county. This place is a beautiful, amazing place. Be sure to check out the Garner State Park reviews on Yelp. There's also all kinds of secret swimming holes. If you get on Google Earth, you can find some of them. The county is mostly hilly to the north, and flat to the south. Uvalde County was named after Juan de Ugalde, a former governor of Coahuila.
