This place was awesome. We came here on a Sunday evening because it said it was a popular spot to go. It costed us 4€ / person to get to the top because they consider it apart of the art museum. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for a lounge / chill atmosphere and reasonable priced drinks (around 8€ per drink). The view is awesome and I would love to go here during the day to get a different perspective. Overall if you are visiting you have to swing by here! read more

The views of the city at sunset. That's all I have to say about this place. Priceless!!! You do have to pay an entrance to access the rooftop, however it's worth it. You have the option of drinks and food or you can lounge around. It's a large rooftop, so lack of seating wasn't an issue. My friends and I enjoyed the Sangria and all the lounge areas from the daybeds to the grass turf. read more

Ok so the BEST VIEWS of Madrid at this joint. You can pay $4Euros to go up on the terrace without a reservation at the restaurant, or you can make the reservation and enjoy the best tapas and drinks. I ordered white wine and peppers they were delish, and the views again were phenomenal. read more

What a great spot in the heart of Madrid to catch an early drink before dinner or just a late night hang. I'm sure this place must be packed in the summer time, but since we were here in November there was barely anyone there....just the way I like it. Keep in mind there's a charge to get in. On the ground floor is a ticket machine, for 5 euro it gets you in, also remember this is a rooftop bar so the prices will be higher than normal. And if your concerned about the cold, they have heaters above so lay back and enjoy the view! read more

The terrace with the best panoramic views of Madrid. On two levels this terrace serves drinks and food. The burgers smell fantastic when you are laying back in one the beds sipping on a cocktail. Music, fans with water misters and a spectacular view. Make a reservation and reserve a bed, and reservations to eat is a must. They are practically booked all summer long. Review is for the view only, not the cafe and bar. Fantastic view of Madrid from up here. It's worth the 4 euro elevator fee if you are into views and taking urban landscape photos. Try for the morning, if they are open, or during or before the sunset. There is a trend cafe and bar up here with patrons lounging around quaffing hip cocktails and nibbling at small plates of food. I was riding solo at the time, otherwise I would have chilled for a bit too. There are other rooftops in town but I read this is the best one. This place goes by many names, but the best way to find is to walk along Calle Alcalá until you hit the Circulo de Bellas Artes building. There is a door where an eager ticket person will take your money in exchange for Euros. The small line can move slow, so patience may be needed. read more

In Madrid for my wedding anniversary. It had been suggested to me to venture to a roof top bar or two to take in the 360 view of the city and the sunset. My wife and I along with the group we traveled with decided Tartan was the move. We waited in a series of lines for approximately 20 minutes and honestly it was worth every second. The bar service was wonderful, there was plenary of seating, lounging, and standing room. As an added bonus the DJ was on point. I would highly recommended this experience to anyone fortunate enough to be in the city! read more

I've been up to Tartan Roof several times, this review in particular is for the restaurant. We made reservations online to go there for lunch(they don't have a menú del día by the way) in June, which can be quite hot. Fortunately the weather was pretty great. Before our food came out though, they had those water spritzer things on that they have at a bunch of places to keep you cool during the summer heat. The spritzer things were definitely not working, they were leaking all over the place. There was a puddle forming on our table, I could see a man's shirt getting totally wet, and a couple had to leave because they were very uncomfortable with getting wet as well. When they told the waiter this, she gave them a dirty look! She didn't even bother apologizing. Then as soon as the couple left, they just turned them off. They obviously need to work on their service because I did not hear them apologizing to anybody and they didn't apologize to us either for the puddle of water. The service during our lunch was okay, no smiles, as is pretty usual in Madrid, and I felt like they kept pushing you to order more drinks. This is the type of place where when you ask for a glass of water with your glass of wine, they say, sorry, we can only give you a bottle (aka we are stingy as hell and want to take every last cent out of you). Now on to the food, we ordered the Margarita ceviche plate. The presentation was beautiful but the plate itself was tiny and had no salt. It just tasted like I was eating lemon juice, so I asked the waiter for some salt and it tasted much better after. Definitely not worth the 11 euros for such a tiny plate. We also tried the Tuna Tartar and the Carrillera plate. They were both much better than the starter. The tuna tartar was good, nothing out of this world, and not worth the 18 euros it costs either. On the other hand, the carrillera curry plate was really good and a great portion. It comes with a little bowl of rice. To conclude, come here for the amazing views and to enjoy a glass of wine, which are not too expensive, we've paid 3 euros before, but avoid the restaurant. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong dishes, but the service is just not up to par for a restaurant that charges as much as it does and that purports to be as good as it is. read more

Undoubtedly one of the prettiest rooftops in the city with a 360º view of Madrid's urban landscape located above the Círculo de Bellas Artes gallery which already is a must visit by itself. The rooftop is divided in 2 areas, a chill-out which is just perfect for watching the sunset while having a cocktail or a spiced up Gin Tonic and the 'Tartan Roof', their restaurant which serves food inspired by street markets around the world. I came to the restaurant for Sunday lunch. Got many recommendations from our server which were spot on. I tried the Tortilla, probably one of the best I've had in Madrid, but my absolute favourite dish was the 'Chukasoba', a ribs and noodles dish with hoisin sauce that was just fantastic. For dessert I decided to skip the sweets (which looked great by the way) and went for the cheese platter, which was excellent. Extremely rude staff and after not having what we wanted (we tried to order 4 different things) we were fed up. You also can not share food here. We eventually just asked for wine and were told to move to a different area to drink even with 10 available tables. We were sent to the turf lounge area...lame. Great view but just come for that. Terrible place to eat or rather be told you can not. My girlfriends Spanish is more than decent and they still treated us like shit. Do not go here for food. Just go up check out the view and order a drink. Way over priced as well. I don't ever write Yelp reviews as I feel establishments should know how to treat guests but this was awful. On a particularly sunny, mild March evening, we ventured over to the Tartan Roof, located on top of the Circulo de Bellas Artes, to kick back and watch the sun set over the city. After paying the 3 Euro entrance fee in the lobby, we hopped in the elevator for a quick ride to the top and wandered around the terraced rooftop, taking in the Madrid skyline. The panoramic views were lovely, no doubt, but the crowd skewed young, the service was non-existent, and there wasn't a seat to be had amidst the throngs of people. We snapped a few pics and giggled/hummed along to Lionel Richie's greatest hits as they played over the sound system, but ultimately decided to skip drinks and instead share a bottle of wine down the street at a less scenester-y spot. read more

This place is wonderful to go to on a sunny day to get a nearly 360 degree view of the Madrid skyline, and perfect for a sunset. You should note that there is a 3 euro cover fee that should be paid in the lobby of the building. There is a variety of chairs and beds that are very welcoming and allow you to settle in and stay for a while. I was a little disappointed that the rooftop dining and bar services were closed the night that we were there because I felt like it jipped the experience a bit-especially since I had to pay a cover to enter. We came here with friends and Roberto waited on us. Probably the NICEST person we met in Madrid. She was kind and knew exactly what we were looking for.. the drinks she recommended, great!! This is a really cool place to chill and get a drink. We grabbed some tapas and drinks. We did the Raspberry Collins and they were 10 euro each but they were good. I expected the price at a place like this in the city. It does have a pretty view of the city and mountains but they only serve a partial part of the menu at certain times. You pay 4 Euros to get in.
