I wrote to him looking, perhaps to book a tour of the Cabot Trail several months hence. His extraordinary reply to me, within 24 hours, consisted of five lengthy paragraphs detailing (1) why his costs (hiring a driver, taxes, fuel, fees and licence requirements to legally drive the Cabot Trail) were so high that he needed to charge more than double what I'd originally offered (2) recommending several colleagues (along with their telephone #'s) whom I could contact, and who might be able to offer the same tour for my wife and me more affordably. As a first-time tourist visiting Sydney off a cruise, I had no idea of the burdens imposed upon these tour providers, and now better appreciate why such private tours have become so expensive. I'm so grateful, and appreciative of Greg's generosity, which actually referred me to Sydney Adventure Tours, and a perfect solution for my forthcoming tour of the Cabot Trail. And, I'm once again amazed by the courtesy and goodwill displayed by people like Greg Coleman toward perfect strangers on the internet.

He took us on a one of a kind tour of the Cape and even though it was a cold, rainy, dreary day, I ended up thinking (to this day) of Cape Breton as one of the best parts of the whole trip. Since he is a native of the area he very knowledgeable of where the interesting spots are and how to get there fast so as not to waste your time. He went out of the way to take my sister to a yardage shop that was delightful. I highly recommend Greg to anyone who wants an experience of a lifetime in the area.

I mean on the plus size you don't wait very long to pass security(unless you get there a bit late, then you're stuck with all the other late comers in a single file line), on the down side you can't really eat or buy souvenirs here. They're stripping away one of the reasons I love airports: mindless buying of overpriced souvenirs and food. But I still liked it. It was clean, efficient, and the staff was very nice.

Horrible Service!!!…read more I had an old man overcharge me than what I was ever charged by that company had before and when I questioned it he lost it, shouting and swearing. When I told him I was going to complain he said he was going to kick my ass and he knew where I lived! I called the dispatch he said buddy was private (um he got my fare through you SOMEHOW) and proceeded to tell me he wouldn't do anything but I am apparent welcome to call the cops! This is one of the worst hotels we have stayed for our Maritime tour. If I could give 0 stars for…read morethis place, I would have. We were welcome by Donna (staff) and there's nothing welcoming about it. She hurriedly talks about the hotel info but it's more of a mundane task for her instead of being an enjoyable part of her job. Downsides: Accommodation -We were placed in a room that is dated, dingy and smells moldy/musty. -Floors have several stains in them (see pic) and the carpeted floors were uneven and makes squeaking/creaking noises when you walk on it. -We were informed that we have a waterfront view which is partly true. When you're in the lower level rooms, your view will be obstructed by trees /shrubs so it is very unlikely you will see a full view of the Bras d'Or Lake. -Outlet plugs were limited and situated in very hard to reach places. If you didn't bring a power bank, your electronic devices will be nowhere close to you. -Washroom is very small and taking a shower is very unpleasant since it's slower to drain and basically you're standing in water. Dining -Place is very remote, not a lot of places to dine and no shops close by. It will take you more than 20 mins to walk to the nearest restaurant and 5 to 10 mins by car. -That left you with no choice but to dine in their restaurant called McCurdy Dining Room that has limited choice of menus. Food is mediocre and very expensive for a rural place. Seafood chowder is watered down, not a lot of seafood in it and a little bit spicy. Their Seafood Pasta is bland and has more noodles than sauce/seafood. Same goes with their Chicken Parmesan Pasta. You also have to wait for a long time for your food as they're understaff and trying to accommodate more customers that they can handle. -Breakfast was included when we booked our room. It's a buffet style and you get the basic breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast, etc. Upside: Nothing good about this hotel and wouldn't even recommend this to my worst enemy!

We headed to the eastern coast of the Canada for the first time ever this summer…read more It was a fabulous trip, and a highlight of it was visiting Cape Breton and Baddeck. We were lucky enough to stay at the Silver Dart Lodge in Cape Breton. What a wonderful location. Overlooking the the lake, and each room has a small patio and chairs to sit and enjoy the views. The folks at this lodge were so friendly and helpful as well. East coast friendliness is definitely evident here! :) Beds were comfy and rooms were well appointed. Separate sink area from the shower/toilet room. Ample closet space. 2 comfy chairs to watch a flat panel tv and free wifi. This hotel also has a great dining room and is not far from downtown Baddeck and other attractions like the Alexander Graham Bell museum.

Disappointing Stay - Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront…read more My wife and I hadn't been back to Sydney in nearly 40 years, so we were excited to return last weekend to reconnect with friends and family. We booked our stay through HCI, using some of our points. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready. That was the first red flag. The lobby furniture was noticeably worn and tired-looking. Once we were finally able to check in, we noticed smudged paint around the door and wall of our room. Inside, there was a gap between the hallway carpet and the tile in the suite -- signs of poor maintenance. Still, we decided to stay. That's when we discovered that the toilet didn't work. We contacted the front desk and were told the maintenance staff was unavailable -- and that we'd need to use a plunger ourselves. Seriously? No one ever showed up, and no plunger was provided. We were forced to use the lobby restrooms, which were in even worse condition: stall locks broken, sinks that didn't drain, and stained porcelain everywhere. We informed the front desk that we had lunch reservations and would be returning around 1:00 PM. We asked for either a working toilet by then or a new room. We also made it clear that if neither was addressed, we would not be staying another night. This is not the level of cleanliness or service I expect from Holiday Inn or IHG. I tried to find a way to contact Holiday Inn or IHG directly to provide this feedback, but had no luck -- so I'm sharing it here. Hope this helps others. If you do stay here, lower your expectations.

I don't recommend walking in front of the hotel with dogs on the sidewalk though. The grass isn't cut, and there is trash and who knows what thrown in the long grass in front of the hotel. Loved the bed, the pillows, the soaps and the staff. We enjoyed this hotel so much. I could see the Big Fiddle at the dock from my window! So wonderful to watch the glow on the water change over the course of a few days. Morning, afternoon, evening, night. This place is also very central to many good places to go - like the Governor's Pub across the street with live music every Saturday night. And the Cidery a little ways up the road - live music on Sunday nights. My dogs and I enjoyed our stay very much. 100%. Loved this place. Hope to go back some day. ALSO - it was interesting to stay here for a few days and see how the port changes when there is a ship in the port or not. How busy it can get, how quiet it can be, what the locals do differently when there is no ship in port. It was all very interesting in early June, 2024.

Bird island boat tours was one of the first things I booked for my Nova Scotia trip. As a birder…read moreand nature lover, this was a must do. I paid a $20 deposit at booking, and $62 per person upon arrival. There were maybe 8-10 total guests on the boat. We had an enthusiastic captain and first mate who pointed out good photo ops and the type of bird (or seal!) that was nearby. We saw tons of puffins, cormorants, razorbills, gulls, guillemots, kittiwakes, and a few eagles and herons. I highly recommend bringing binoculars (or you can rent for $8). They had a small gift shop where I bought cute puffin socks after the tour. I highly recommend this experience!
