It was a challenge not to buy anything, but I maintain that Taschen, if not the preeminent publisher of art books in the world, has the chance to provide a top-notch retail front..and they have done so. Where else can I look at $1200 books with provided white gloves, but spend half an hour poring over the $40 offerings? There is a fundamental need for art in this world, and I'm glad they're doing their part. Salespeople largely left me alone, which is fine. They must have sensed I wasn't buying anything, but they didn't know that I couldn't put the book I wanted in my suitcase coming back home. So no nefarious intent detected on their part. Would visit again, then plot to get it mailed to me at home. read more

TASCHEN has always been one of my favorite publishers. They've specialized in publishing hardcover distinguishable books on all realms of art since 1980. Naturally, I bookmarked this retail location and finally opted for an instore purchase versus the online method I've typically done. While they do offer extremely rare and collectible books, they also offer plenty of interesting options that are budget-friendly as well. Everyone is an enthusiast about something which is why this publisher and retail location makes the perfect destination to suit all needs, interests, and age groups. In my opinion, they certainly have some of the best sourced material and images found throughout their collections so it's easy to fall in love with a book here. After all, a home without a library is just a house. Whether you are looking for a decorative table book, a conversation starter, or an anthology of varied arts; you can find it at TASCHEN. Great little bookstore that seems to specialize in coffee table books and ones with lots of glossy pictures. Some are expensive, some are not so much. I had my eye on one book that contained a collection of Van Gogh's paintings. The $20 price was acceptable but do I really need a five pound book taking up weight and space on my shelves? I must say that finding Taschen was a nice find. The books are great, the setting simple. I love the fact that the books range from so many themes and some are super sexy. Being a physically stong person I was surprised that most of the books were so heavy I would have to rest them on something to browse through them. Books are a passion of mine, so its always a pleasure to find a place that offers such a nice selection. Worth every penny! read more

A cool German import of a "bookstore" with limited choices and selected books. The limited choices make it feel less like a bookstore and more like a huge book shelf, but the book selection is very top-notch - especially if you're into design, advertising, and the arts. A lot of it is even suitable to be a coffee table type of book. So basically, a high-end artsy bookshelf - just don't come here expecting the coziness of a library. For a bookstore offering a Library-type of feel, Books & Books is still the only game in town. In the movie Notting Hill William Thacker owns a travel bookstore, that is a bookstore that only sells travel books. You couldn't find any great literature in his shop and you won't find any classics at Taschen either, but, If you're looking for something that's going to enhance the aesthetic of anyone's abode, try Taschen. One of the prettiest German exports since Claudia Schiffer. Taschen has you covered from architecture to web design. Most of these books have a strong aesthetic and a price point to match but you can score plenty of items on sale, sometimes even 50% or more off. This is an ideal place to pick up a coffee table book for a housewarming or purchase that collector's edition for that devoted artsy friend. Best of all? The sense of humor in some of the titles including The Big Book of Breasts and The Big Butt Book, both Schiffer approved. read more

I hit the Winter Warehouse sale this past Friday. 50-75% off design, photography, art & travel books. Got there at 11:15 to discover the place in total chaos. Place is usually quiet, but this Sale craziness was expected. There were 5 center islands overflowing w/ books. The more we took, the more was brought out from the back storage. The smart ones came prepared. -They had lists. -Researched the sale items. -Knew what Volumes they needed. -And were in teams of 2 (one to scavenge & the other to protect the pile already collected to the side). I came on an early lunch break...unprepared. But was able to grab $200 worth of books for $50 and some scratches from an overly excited Helmut Newton fan ("Sumo" was going for $24.50). Store manager said to also check the online sale. I did & was able to grab a 12 Volume DOMUS set for a ridiculously low price ($250 vs. $840). Win. Friendly, helpful, efficient. Will be checking their website for the next sale. Until then, I'll be visiting & making a list. read more

At Taschen, you are able to stamp your coffee table card with titles such as "The Big Books of Breasts" "The Big Book of Butts" and my personal fav "The Big Book of Penis". They also carry a multitude of design and travel books. To my surprise, the books are moderately priced. Some books can run you as little as 20 bucks! Whaaaa? Taschen is one of my favorite publishers. I didn't know they had a retail store in South Beach, so I was very excited to spot this place on a recent visit. As others have said, the store itself is beautiful and it reflects the style and class of the books themselves. If you're into art, architecture, sex, fashion, travel or biographies then this bookstore is Mecca. The photography and layout of each and every book is impressive. If you're like me, you really will want to have them all. It's the perfect place to obtain a coffee table fixture or a gift for someone. This book store rocks! My husband and I were walking on Lincoln Road looking to waste some time, and when we arrived at the Taschen store, he exclaimed "wow, a bookstore that only sells cool books." And he was right. Every book in the store, I wanted to own. The pictures are vivid, the subject matter for each book is wonderful. I really do want to buy every book in there. We easily spent 30 minutes in there just flipping through the pages of about 20 books. read more

Great location for a bookstore of it's type as well as being pretty daring for a single publisher create their own brand books and bookstore. The atmosphere and convenient pitcher of ice cold water are great touches for browsing in the store. Being a native German, you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon one of my favourite bookstores from the fatherland right here in Miami Beach on Lincoln Road - Taschen. The store is located in the new Herzog & de Meuron Building next to the movie theatre. While the building is an architectonical disaster in my viewpoint, the store itself is beautifully designed with warm, welcoming murals and terrazzo floors. But the real appeal is - of - course - the book selection. You will find Taschen books covering contemporary and classic art, photography, design, architecture, sex, travel, cinema and pop culture, as well as Spanish and Portuguese language titles. And there's books in German, too! Miamians -consider yourself honoured: this store is one of only 11 in the world. We are joinign the ranks of such metropolises as Paris, New York, Los Angeles, London, Brussels, Berlin, Hamburg and Copenhagen. One step closer to becoming a real city! By no means are these books challenging to read or analyze, which make them perfect to lay on a coffee table or use them as decor. The prices are a bit hefty but for the service I received and the great vibes this place gives off, I think it's very worth stopping by. I use to love this store but lately I've gone in twice and have came across the RUDIEST team there - This is my go to spot for gifts but the new management they have is more interested in drinking coffee and eating than assisting customers - When my wife and I arrived to the store The manager who I later found out was actually the ASSISTANT manager (the man - big n round - wearing a t shirt that had been sweated out and dark sweat pants - completely inappropriate attire I might add) was towards the back where this curtain was opened and he was drinking coffee and didn't even bother to walk towards me and my wife to greet us - after I inquired about some books - titles and themes - he barely gave me any information - instead he tried to rush me over to their HUGE books that they keep in the back (probably to try to get me to buy one of them and make his commision ) when I was looking for something completely unrelated to anything he showed me - when I looked at a price for one of those huge books I made a remark to my wife about how expensive they were and he then decided to say to us "well they're here for the people that can afford them" EXCUSE ME ?? IS THAT HOW YOU SPEAK TO CUSTOMERS? Once he saw I wasn't interested he went back behind the current opened it and started munching down on something - my wife then attempted to engage him again and he responded to her with a mouthful of food and simply said "if you don't see it we're out of stock" Without even bothering to check for himself! The crazy thing is that ALL FOUR THEMES I was looking for were IN THE STORE - could he not have taken the time to look for them ? How unbelievable - Even though I found the books I decided I was not going to give my money to this store - and instead walked over to Books & Books where I found them all and was greeted and helped by one of their associates. Since this store opened I've gone to make purchases there but NOT ANYMORE. TEACH YOUR MANAGEMENT PROPER CUSTOMER SERVICE. The experience in the store was very soothing without attendants hawking around, but always there to offer a gently helpful tip. As a book lover I think this place is awesome! I even found a gift for Hubby and thankfully, they deliver because we had no room left to bring anything else home with us! Awesome location and the atmosphere was great. Warm and friendly employees didn't make me feel like browsing was off limits. I was really able to stroll around and check things out without feeling pressure to buy anything. Some of it's pricey but personally I think it's worth it. I've always loved large books with great pictures and good captions. This time around its at the Taschen Book Store on Lincoln Road. I could totally spend hours in there if allowed. I was able to thumb through books filled with Carvaggio paintings, Michaelangelo paintings, and yes even some Terry Richardson wayward photography. You have to simply appreciate the vastness of art that one store can hold. I think that my favorite of all was the $200 Human Anatomy and surgery book the size of a small end table (and in French to boot). Right now the Muhamed Ali book is quite affordable at Taschen and I was able to pick up the latest edition of the magazine (for free). read more
