The locations is nicely set up but you share a cooking table with others. That being said they really should enforce that people wash their hands before cooking. From the time they walked In until the time they left they all said it was a rating of a ten ! 10 That's as high as you can go . The chef instructors were all organized as well as the food . Very poor customer service!! I had scheduled a "girls' day with my daughters that included, breakfast, then pedicures, then, a dinner time cooking class at Taste Buds Kitchen in North Andover, MA. My email confirmation displayed the incorrect time so I called to get a resolution. No one answered the phone. I drove by to speak to someone in person. They said they were sorry for the confusion and that they would give me a credit for another day. Unfortunately, when the manager Laurel emailed me, they said they would not offer me another day and proceeded to keep my money without offering a refund or credit for another class with my daughters. If I could leave zero stars in regard to this last experience, I would. This would've been our second experience. We were looking forward to going back again, but unfortunately, our youngest dog had to have emergency intestinal surgery and had complications. We tried to contact them the day of via phone and email and no one answered. We also called multiple days afterward and nobody responded until today. They refuse to allow us to move to another class. We weren't even looking to get our money back. They said that the policy is five days before the class we need to cancel and that we signed the waiver however, our dog didn't need the surgery at that time had we known obviously we would have canceled. This company does not allow for life circumstances that we cannot prevent, and they don't care about their customers. Laurel is rude and argumentative. I tried to rationalize with her how this reflects poorly on the business and the policy is poorly run forcing customers to lose out on money, unnecessarily for no reason. Why would they be keeping our money? What type of business practice is that aside from a sketchy one? I am completely uncomfortable with this policy and never would've thought that they would not make room for emergency situations because who in their right mind would not think that they would do so.? Airlines, hotels, Broadway shows, concerts, mini venues allow for change, but a cooking class can't? What in the world is this? Who do they think they are? Something is very crooked about a business. Excellent first experience in the homemade pasta class! I bought the class for my anniversary with my boyfriend and we had an incredible time. The staff is so informative and helpful - helping pre-buss and clean so the process is seamless and easy. You can bring your own alcohol or non-alcoholic beverages, which was nice. 4 months after the initial Groupon purchase and 1 reschedule later we finally enjoyed the class! I'm not sure if they are still offering the vouchers since it was probably just to generate initial buzz, but I had to wait about 3 months before I saw a class that I was really interested in taking on a weekend night. The 1 star deduction was mainly for the disappointment with the out of no where class cancellation. I originally planned for my SO and I to take this in January as the voucher was going to expire soon after. I called the place to ask what happened and apparently a larger group of people cancelled the booking and it was basically just me and my SO so they didn't have enough people for it to be worth it running the class. It would have been nice if they could have offered something else additional like extra recipe(s) for the inconvenience. We arrived at the location about 10 mins early to check in and the head chef, Andrea checked us in on her iPad and showed us our 6 person table top work station labeled "Tomatoes". There were trays near their drink dispensers where you could open your BYOB wine. We were in a rush and didn't bring any. For each work station they also provided pita slices and dipping oil to snack on. The classroom looked beautiful and all the equipment new. Andrea ushered us to the front counter where she would provide us the demonstration and we would follow along. Her 2 helpers provided us all of the tools and ingredients needed for the current portion of the recipe. The interesting part, was that we weren't all preparing the meal from start to finish, but we all had specific tasks for a piece of the recipes. The portion size was enough for everyone at the station though. For the Tapas Espanolas class we made the following: - Albondigas with sauce - turkey meatballs with tomato sauce - Butternut Squash Empanadas: dough and butternut squash, corn, cheese stuffing - Patatas Bravas with sauce - baked potatoes My SO prides himself on his cooking skills and even he was able to pick up some tips and tricks. We learned an efficient way of chopping onions to minimize the eye burn, knife skills, and cracking eggs to avoid stray shells. Andrea was very engaging as an instructor and made the steps for recipe easy to follow along. We couldn't wait after prepping for 90 minutes to dig in. The helpers put everything in the oven and created the final presentation in the bowls so everything looked fancy, but I can't wait to recreate the recipe. I believe without a promotional voucher or groupon it's about $60/person. Compare that to $90+ for Eataly, Sur La Table $69/person in Boston and $80/person for Create A Cook in Newton. It's a great idea for a fun indoor activity, but I would definitely check the details of the classes to see the menu. I know some other people commented that the Tasty Thai recipe wasn't worth it since they made summer rolls and those ingredients can be cheaply procured. I've never had so much fun preparing my own dinner! We went for a couples steak diner with truffle oil mashed potatoes and blue cheese salad- it was delicious. They provided instruction and oversight of every step of the way (even fixed our mistakes). We are definitely considered beginner level but our food was still perfect. The chef was so friendly, fun, and knowledgeable. Loved that they cleaned and pre measured everything. All the fun of cooking without the messy clean up. Of course the byob doesn't hurt ( they provide wine openers and glasses). Great date night activity and great learning experience. I purchased a cooking class for my 3 children for Christmas. Unfortunately my son tested positive for strep and flu the morning of the class. I understand they have a cancellation policy but most companies can make an exception for special circumstances not to mention I paid $165, which is a good amount of money to throw away. I'm a single mom and getting my other 2 kids to the class is difficult when one of them is so sick. The woman I spoke to on the phone, Laura, was so rude and not understanding of the situation at all. She kept reciting their policy. She did not care that my child was ill or that this was one of their Christmas presents. I basically had to tell my kids because one of them got sick they lost out on their Christmas present that they were looking forward to. I have never dealt with such an awful company. DISCLAIMER: if you are ALREADY good at cooking (aka have a bounty of basic skills) this might not be for you. All the negative reviews for this place either come from people who can't read the website correctly when they say you're sitting at a table with other people, are upset that they are learning to make things that they already understand how to do, or are frustrated that they were gifted a class that doesn't fit their dietary needs which is no fault of Taste Buds. ANYWAY, with that aside. There are lots of things I thought I knew but realized I didn't - which is why I am very grateful for this class. Even the sauce I made taught me new things such as deglazing, using a chefs knife properly, and chopping garlic whole rather than using a press and WHY. Yes the ingredients are pre-measured for you but who cares? The class is 2 hours so would you like to waste your time measuring? My main point is that this is a wonderful time. The space is cozy and clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, the food comes out wonderful, and sitting with two strangers was so much fun (we actually had many great convos and became FB friends). They went above and beyond covid guidelines. The instruction was good, hands on, and fun. Our meal came out amazing my son said,"5 stars!!!!"So good maybe the best food he has ever had, and we made it! " This class had us make, chicken Parmesan, mushroom risotto, and cannolis! My boyfriend and I attended the adult BYOB pasta making class! We loved it! They had us make fettuccine, spinach ravioli and butternut squash ravioli, all from scratch. The way they do it is they first demonstrate each section and then you go back to your table and do it with your group of 4-6. There were two main instructors and then several helpers that walked around the room and helped you if you needed. I will say that my boyfriend and I are not exactly beginner cooks but we didn't know a lot about making pasta, so we learned A LOT during this class. However, if you are an experienced cook, the demonstration might be annoying because they demonstrate EVERYTHING, even cracking eggs correctly. Like I said, my boyfriend and I loved it because it was very instructive but someone who grew up cooking might think this class was annoying. Overall, I loved it. It was so much fun cooking pasta from scratch and using FRESH ingredients for everything we made! My only suggestion to Taste Buds Kitchen is to make several classes with the same meal and have it made at levels such as beginner, intermediate, and expert. That way, if the class has a lot of experience cooking, they can spend less time on the details and more time letting people put their own spin on the dish. read more

My family, friends and I have attended cooking classes at this location several times as well as supported this small business with various purchases. I was scheduled to attend a class but was sent home sick from work the day before. I was honest and told them upfront it wouldn't be safe for me to attend as I had been exposed to COVID, and asked if it would be possible to get a credit towards a future class. They emphatically denied my request saying "they're a small struggling business and this policy is posted on their website- no refunds/credits." Had this been a case of simply "not feeling well," I would be respectful of their policy. It was not, and these are most unprecedented times. This is THE ONLY business I have encountered, small or otherwise, that hasn't made adjustments to their policy because of the current situation. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. read more

We had the BEST time at Taste Buds Kitchen this weekend. We went to a BYOB pasta making class that I had bought as a gift for my dad and my sister. The staff was awesome, the space was super clean, and everything was organized incredibly well. The fact that you can bring your own wine and beer makes it even better. I highly recommend doing this with family, friends, or for a fun date night! If you go with less than four people just be prepared to share your table and food and to work together but it's also a way to make some new friends! I can't wait to go back for one of the other classes they offer! TBK such a fun idea, especially when the weather is cold or rainy; different idea for an indoor activity. I originally heard about TBK from someone I did catering with, and then my family found a GroupOn so we all bought it and signed up for Tasty Thai. Website is easy to navigate, shows all the dates/times and what will be on the menu. Sign Up is also easy. Space is great, beautiful inside, great kitchen area, spacious for guests to cook. I arrived early, I arrive early to everything as I feel if you are on time you are late. They make you wait outside, or in your car until the time scheduled for the cooking class, wasn't a fan of that at all. Your guests should be able to come in, not have to wait outside, and I was only 20 minutes early. I think TBK also needs a TV, to show the demonstrations. Right now, you leave your station multiple times to walk to the front to watch the demonstration then head back to your space to cook. It was just a little annoying since the first step was to legit dump all the little cups into the big bowl and just mix; so really there was no need to walk up to watch that. TBK is BYOB, you watch the instructor then repeat at your station with your group; at the end you are able to eat what you made. All in all it was a fun night, but glad I got the GroupOn because I didn't think the class was worth $60. I think maybe the Steak Dinner one could be worth $60 but not Thai, Pizza, or Brunch. Will I be back, maybe; I did tell all my friends if they can grab the GroupOn to try the place out. read more

DON'T SCHEDULE KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTIES HERE - it was overpriced and they overcharge for cancellations/no shows! I'm very disappointing to have to write such a bad review but I was grossly overcharged for my son's birthday party. The kids had a good time but I had 5 kids cancel last minute (which happens with kids getting colds, last minute emergencies, etc) and I was charged $150 for mac and cheese supplies! $150 IS A LUDICROUS AMOUNT FOR MAC AND CHEESE SUPPLIES FOR NO SHOWS! I could literally fill a bathtub with mac and cheese for $150. I understand a "committed number" but things happen with kids and there should be some sort of capped limit on how much they charge for no shows (maybe $10 per no show) - especially when the product is pasta, butter, and cheese (we're not talking steaks and truffles here!). My husband and I attended a cooking class at Taste Buds Kitchen last night.....what a FUN evening!! We were greeted by Laurel, the friendly and energetic owner, shown where to open our BYOB wine, and taken to our cooking station where a delicious white bean hummus awaited us. The state of the art kitchen is in a beautifully restored mill building with brick walls, large windows, and high ceilings. Our evening's menu was a "taste of Italy" and Laurel gave us step by step instructions to prepare eggplant parmesan, mushroom risotto, and fresh orange zest cannolis. The food was delicious and it was really fun to meet our fellow "chefs". We will definitely go back to Taste Buds Kitchen and take a group of friends next time. read more

I was very disappointed in the cooking class I attended and wanted to express my dissatisfaction. For the $70 per person class I booked for myself and 2 friends ($210 total), we were sharing a table with 2 other people (a couple) and were very squished. I asked that we have our own table (plenty of room for the space) but was told they did not purchase enough eggplants to support that (all the ingredients used for this meal are extremely cheap, especially when charging $70/person/class). Together the FIVE of us (my two friends and two complete strangers on a date night) made a very basic meal, but since spread across so many of us, it wasn't very hands on when doing the actual prep / cooking. The meal we made (eggplant parm and risotto with cannoli) was extremely basic, with a lot of the "cooking" and measuring already pre-done. I've done many cooking classes in the past and this has never been the case. They wanted the students to have the experience to do this on their own, as its apart of the learning. On top of that, half of the time the instructor would come to our table and take over what we were doing by doing the cutting / mixing / cooking herself (it was a bit much). When asking questions in the group setting, I felt I was responded to in a very condescending way, saying things like "we will get to that"... followed by an eye roll. It was clear TBK wasn't prepared from a food stand point, and didn't prepare very well for the group we had. In the future I would suggest letting your customers know that a group size of ___ may be paired with strangers / another group. I would also suggest you plan out your portions ahead of time to support the group size as well. Our portions wound up to be very small when spread across 5 adults. To be honest, it made for a very awkward night, especially for the other couple who planned a fun date night and were stuck with 3 ladies. I planned this night to celebrate one of my girlfriends getting engaged and do a fun girls night, but again, we were completely squished on a small table, with little "cooking" to be done when split among us all + the overbearing instructor, and small portions. For the price I paid upfront ($210) I would never do this again. The total ingredients likely cost $25 MAX, and the hands on learning was more than limited. I wouldn't come back for these reasons, nor would I recommend TBK again. read more

Unfortunately, the day of the class we had an unexpected death of an immediate family member. We immediately contacted, Taste Buds Kitchen in North Andover to notify them that we would not be able to attend the class. We asked if it would be possible to attend another pasta making class and said that we would be available any date and time they could fit us in. We spoke to both the manager and franchise owner who refused to place us in the same class we signed up for or to refund us provided it was an extraordinary circumstance. We hoped they would understand and accommodate us during this difficult time as we were looking forward to making pasta as a family. Laurel, the franchise owner kept sending us the no refund policy through email and when speaking to Sarah, the manager she told me she was done communicating with me and frankly, sarcastic. My sister and I reserved and purchased a class here on Saturday for a gift for our mom. We arrived for the class and all of the doors of the building were locked and the lights were off. We called and emailed multiple times and waited about 20 minutes without anyone answering or showing up. Nobody at Taste Buds ever got back to us so we called again 3 days later, only to find out that they decided to cancel the class because we were the only ones to sign up. They did not ever notify us of the cancellation ahead of time and upon our follow up call said, oh we probably should have emailed you that we were cancelling. Very social atmosphere where everyone is happy to be there. Tables of 4 so if there is only 2 of you, then you are paired up. It was BYOB and they provided glasses and wine openers. Our Chef was fantastic and not only did she show us how to make the dish, but we also learned a few kitchen techniques. Besides the food being fantastic and plenty of time to enjoy it at the end of the night, you did not have to clean up. Took the pastry class and was totally disappointed. Nothing came out as it should have for the entire class, and what we had to take home/eat was not worth the money paid for the class. The eclairs were the size of my index finger (length and width), so the pastry cream just slid off. The croissants fit in the palm of my hand, and were under cooked and not flaky at all. A fantastic way to enjoy the kitchen without all the prep work and cleanup! I attended the Sushi and Dumplings Adult workshop with my girlfriends during the Grand Opening and we had a blast. Chef Andrea gave great demonstrations and turned us all into ninjas with a knife. We were offered a wide variety of ingredients to julienne and concoct our own unique sushi roll. We also learned a few quick tricks to make awesome dumplings with dipping sauce. The dumplings didn't make it home because we devoured them but there was plenty of sushi to bring home for my husband and kids to taste! Got the thumbs up all around! I was impressed with the professionalism and the cleanliness of the Taste Buds kitchen. I also brought eleven 8 year old girls to Taste Buds Kitchen the next day to complete a Girl Scout cooking badge. Laurel worked with me to ensure that the girls were able to complete the badge requirements and was flexible enough to accommodate my girls with food allergies too! The girls made apple spice muffins - yum! The Taste Buds staff did a great job of keeping all the girls engaged by asking them to cream ingredients, grate spices, chop apples, and scooping the muffins into the tin to be cooked. Each girl got a chance to try all the steps. Finally, the muffins were decorated with coarse red sugar, spearmint leaves and a pretzel stick so that they looked like apples! The girls were so proud of all their hard work and all the food looked and tasted great! They also made pretzels from scratch that were amazing! Chef Andrea showed the girls how to make the dough, roll it out, and shape it into a pretzel. Those were so good that my kids are already asking to make them at home again!
