I have accessed the Mobile Market many times at several different locations and have always found the produce to be extremely fresh and other goods to be of the highest quality. I have also volunteered at their annual Harvest Fest and Farm to Cocktail events and love how they bring the community together. I am always impressed with the passion, commitment, energy and knowledge of all the staff and I am grateful Lowell has such an amazing organization!

At their Mobile Market, I can get all kinds of produce I can't find anywhere else (lemon cucumbers, husk cherries, colorful beets, a huge variety of kale....). Sometimes staff will do taste tests, or offer recipe suggestions, which are really helpful. In addition to growing and selling the food, Mill City Grows also offers educational programming in gardening and preparing food, and provides support for community gardens in Lowell, so you can even grow your own with their help. Last night I went to the All About Chicken class. I was a little nervous because I went alone, and…read morebecause I'm not that comfortable in the kitchen. Honestly, I don't really like to cook. But I had a gift card so off I went. Patty welcomed me into her beautiful home ... a fire going and nice music, and I met the three others in our class, one of whom also came alone. A sip of wine later and I was facing my own naked bird at my own station in her huge kitchen -- on my own board with my own knives -- waiting to be cut up. Patty was so patient with me ... helping me hold the knife, find the joints ... and before I knew it I had six beautiful pieces ready to be prepared in 3 different recipes. We cooked every last part of those birds along with a delicious rice dish and sat down a few hours later to a leisurely meal admiring our work. We could have stayed there until the wee hours at her table, the four of us and Patty; we felt completely at home. (Except that she cleaned up!) She also does children's classes. My kids went this summer. She was excellent with keeping them all on task and managing her kitchen with six messy little ones having a ball. Oh --- and she does a Thai class ... that's the one I want to do next. I ate as much as I could. I left with the rest of my food in to go containers ready to serve my family today, and with the confidence to cook again tomorrow. I feel so confident now ... I want to try chopping onions and swirling butter and making my own stock at home.

I had the chance to try some of her appetizers and desserts at an event. Everything was amazing…read more.. the arancini balls, the Spanish tortilla, curried chicken sandwiches, the dips, confetti cookies, and hummingbird cupcakes, just to name a few. I asked the event host who made all the delicious treats and was introduced to Patty. She was very kind, personable, and encouraged me to keep eating! I hope to take one of her classes or use her talents for one of my own events.

I've now taken 5 personal interest cooking classes through the Northern Essex Community College…read morePersonal Interest program and can't recommend them enough. These classes are generally three hour hands on workshops held in the college's downtown Haverhill culinary school kitchens. Faculty have been friendly, knowledgable and helpful, and the food always delicious. Each instructor has the flexibility to teach their own way so it's always a new experience. Most recently I did a Thai Street food class in which our instructor, Ploy, walked us through making a rainbow salad (with carrots, apples and a variety seasonings), Thai corn fritters, red curry with chicken (served with white rice), and a fun color changing butterfly pea limeade. Our instructor was super professional and balanced learning and the practicalities or working with non-professionals just right. Other classes I've enjoyed include Empanadas, Vietnamese street food, Indian appetizers, and chinese buns. The variety offered is amazing, and you can pick either weeknights or Saturday 10am-1pm.

I felt like I got no real support from them they they didn't give me a chance to learn a lot of the basics that an RN should know by graduation. There was one Carol Nash, person, one of the instructors who was extremely unfair to me. She even admitted that she just didn't like me as a person so she decided not to give me a chance when there was an opportunity to learn; she would never let me partake in the interesting observations or learning experiences and that went on throughout the entire time. The instructors were poor quality not very fair markers, they would have their favorites. If I wasn't highly motivated to get my RN I would have never made it. And to top it off at the very end of the last semester when I was just about to graduate one of the instructors decided me and this one other student did not have good isolation technique The entire time we were in school they never said anything about that but then the last week of school they threatened not graduate me and this one other student because the instructor didn't like my technique. So in order for us to pass we both had to pay a special tutor $100 and at the time that was a lot of money in '86 $100 a piece .Yet the tutor said that both of our sterile technique was good. They tried everything just to trip me up and few other people. I wasn't the only one who was treated poorly in that school.
