Our sale was a disaster and I wouldn't use this business again. I should have checked the reviews first. The entire premise of an estate sale is to liquidate every item and to maximize the revenue to the client. This is difficult to do if the prices are obscenely high. Estate sales compete with garage sales and Craigslist, not retail prices, and our sale sent an ungodly amount of items to the dump or to charity. At least I hope they went to charity, but its hard to tell. I was told not to remove a thing from the house, and that customers will, "Buy everything, even the half-used cleaning supplies and medicine, etc." In the end, many items were slated for the landfill! I could have given these to needy families in the community rather than waste them. Items that are no usable by the charity should have been given away. All in all, I was disgusted. It was almost as if a copany wanted to come in, skim the easiest and most profitable cream off the top and then leave the grieving family with whatever is left (including the possibility of dump and hauling fees.) read more

I am an avid "estate sale" groupie and Tate Estates is one of the best companies I have seen in action. I have attended 4 of their sales and they always appear organized and well run. Items seem to be priced fair for the seller and the buyer. Diana is the main gal who runs it and she is very shrewd with negotiating and obvious she does her research on pricing items. I buy a lot of tools and collectibles and she knows it all. I've seen her selling collectible art one minute and then a forklift the next. Twice I have seen the sellers around the sales and they seem to be happy with her service. I have been to other estate sales and they all seem lackluster with workers just sitting around by a cash box and clueless about what they are selling. After communicating with Diana and Michael of Tate Estates for several weeks, we made an appointment with them to come to our 2200 square foot home in Guerneville to appraise our possessions and arrange for a liquidation sale before we moved to Mexico. When they were half an hour late for the appointment, I called to see if they perhaps were having difficulty finding the house. Michael answered and curtly informed me that they had unilaterally decided not to consider conducting a sale for us. How unprofessional. They did not even have the courtesy to call to cancel the appointment they had made with us so we we would have the opportunity to contact other providers of estate liquidation services, leaving us completely in the lurch. read more

Diana and Michael are amazing at what they do. They are so warm and friendly yet confident and capable. They are very knowledgable and have a lot of connections in terms of collectors and people to ask if they aren't sure what an item's worth is. I really felt confident that they were working hard to get the most money for my belongings when we liquidated our estate prior to our big move. I really felt like I could trust Michael and Diana, which is so important in this business! I left my home and all my belongings in their hands for 3 days and didn't worry for a second! They spent 3 days in my home selling my items but came several days before the sale to set up and price things. From they day we met the week before the sale, Diana began marketing the sale and gaining interest in several different platforms. Seriously working hard from day 1! It was such a relief to have them and their sales and marketing expertise taking on this huge project of liquidating our home. It was shocking to come home after being gone for the weekend to just a few bags of things that didn't sell (which Diana helped me find a charity to donate to.) Marie was especially knowledgable of the Swedish objects and their significance to those of Scandinavian Heritage. They completed the process quickly and netted us a significant return as well. Using Tate Estates was probably one of the worst decisions I have ever made in my life. I was reminded of that this week when another one of their former clients reached out to me and shared their horrible (and similar) experience. Truly, they made one of the most stressful and difficult times of my life nearly unbearable. In my opinion, they are highly unprofessional and unethical. They are not big on accounting or accountability. What accounting we finally received (after multiple requests) was, by their own admission, made up after the fact. Many items were never accounted for, despite multiple requests. Things just disappeared with no record of their sale. I could go on and on about what a horrible experience I had with Diana and Michael. However, I will simply say that I would encourage you to take your business elsewhere. read more

After the horrible shock of our mother's passing, I was beside myself with grief and had so much to do to settle my mom's estate. Mom was organized, but had a ton of beautiful things. I didn't even know where to start. On the recommendation of my sister, I met Diana only a day or so after I first called. She she was kind and empathetic, but kept things very professional. First I'd like to begin by saying Tate estate deserve less than one star! I was in California and saw signs for an estate sale so I decided on stopping in to see what they had. After walking around and noticing there where many things that were still sitting around I found a small box of trains. I asked one of the people who worked for Tate estate on how much they would take and once we both agreed upon price I asked him to hold it on the side while I continued looking for more items. I saw two vintage guns and knew my brother-in-law would be interested in them. I wanted to know little more information about them. So the woman there started telling me that they could not be sold without a license and that the person buying them would have to take a safety class. Mind you I wanted information about the guns not anything more. So I informed her that my brother-in-law would take care of all those things since he has purchased other firearms in the past. So I took pictures of the gun to send to him and as I got ready to leave I wanted to pay for the box of items that were on hold. The woman who belittled me when I asked about the guns refused to sell me the box of items because she wanted more money than was originally agreed upon. I tried to explain to her that I had already discussed it with another employee who confirmed the price agreed upon. But she started pulling items out of the box and wanted more money. I said no deal and decided to leave but before that I asked her name and she said it was Diana. The first sale I went to of theirs was a great find as I got tons of stuff for my little kids. I even got my Dad into going to Diana's sales and he has been to many of them as well as referring Tate Estates to his friends when their Dad passed away. Just went to an estate sale run by this company. First they had the prices as if they had some retail store. Today is sunday and when we entered the house we were greeted with "Hi everything is half off today". Then when I went to purchase the items I had I was told half off isn't until 12 oclock. WOW but you said everything is half off when we came in. Being lied to was not very good business. My friend tried to buy a couple of golf clubs and the guy told him "this isn't a garage sale". Gee I didn't know ESTATE SALE means pay the retail value of all items. The dumb ass started to cry about paying taxes workmans comp insurance and more than anyone needed to hear. He said he would rather donate it before he would take a low offer. I guess if you donate everything you make more money. hmmmmmm lets see take 5 dollars for a golf club or don't sell it and donate it. I feel sorry for the family who hired this company because they would rather not sell anything unless they get top dollar. I don't think the guy working shouldn't do this because he wasn't friendly looked at people with a look that was just angry. He was argueing with at least three people when I was there. Funny thing was all anyone was doing was just tring to get a deal. I have been to many estate sales but have never been more disappointed than with this one.
