Peter has anger issues. This is the 2nd time I've been to one of his sales and the 2nd time I've seen him snap at an employee in the middle of the sale. It was awkward to watch and then- when I went to check out, it got worse. I went to the reg with 3 things in hand- 1 print marked $20, 1 tin marked $1, and an unmarked vintage tray. I asked about the tray- he quoted $10 bucks. Ok, cool. I asked if he would come down in price on the print- he snapped at me no. Ok, I said- I'll just go with these 2 things. He tallied things- gave me $10 for the tray as he said, and quoted $3 for the tin. I said "but it is marked $1" (which it was, in marker, on the bottom). He snapped "That's not MY dollar!"- as if I changed the price? WTF? So I said I'd skip the tin. I started to ask about some drawers he had in the house, and he blew his top and said the price is the price and that there is no haggling at estate sales. Well, Peter- not yours, for sure, but then post signage, please, as many of the other sales in town have CLEARLY STATED POLICIES posted. So I looked at him stunned by his blowup, and then started to change my mind about the tray- which he then yanked out of my hands and put behind the register, and then he IGNORED ME to snap at other people trying to pay. I stepped behind the other people to get back in line to purchase the tray because I DID like it and it is unique. Once he finished with the other people, he picked up the tray and the tin, shoved them at me and told me to take them and go away. I said I didn't want to not pay and again, he had moved on to other people. So I paid him via Venmo. And he looked surprised. You might treat people like shit, Peter, but I paid for what I purchased. I actually enjoyed going through this sale! They have a great selection of things and at reasonable prices, even before the last day sale. I went to the estate sale on Glen Dr in San Leandro last week. It would have given them a five star but as I was checking out, I noticed someone at the tables on the opposite side of me, looking at two loppers. I mentioned that I didn't notice the loppers earlier to the cashier (who was super sweet). She turned around to look at the loppers, then asked her colleague, who was stationed at the jewelry, if the loppers were on hold for someone. Instead of hearing what she was saying, he thought it was appropriate to get angry at the customer who was looking at them. He was so angry that he must have forgotten how to be a human, because basically just yelled at the customer, saying "No!" and huffed as he furiously waved to where I was standing, indicating that the customer should be on the side where I was standing. Did he think the customer couldn't speak English? Is that why he stopped using his words and just waved his hands? From a customers perspective, this was wildly off putting. Bought a 15 dollar bag of jewelry labeled jewelry. Ended up sorting it and found 58 pairs of earrings without matches. Extremely disappointing. Went back to get at least a partial refund and the lady at the counter asked "what did I expect for 15 bucks" and that it was "crafting jewelry" not real jewelry. When your sign is labeled real jewelry that's what you should be getting. I would EXPECT 10 or maybe me more missing matches, not 58. If it is 'crafting jewelry' label it so. read more

The people who run this business aren't he friendliest of people. The woman at the register told me I could go shop on ebay when I asked if there was any discount on a chipped item. I only asked because I saw the man running the estate sale give someone else a discount for a cup having a chip so I figured I'd ask. She was very smug . So I went to talk to the man running the sale and said I dont know what your relationship with the woman running the cash register is and he cut me off said that's my wife and you can leave. I said I was just coming to ask about a cup amd he said no you can leave without hearing anything I had to say. Everyone has bad days but man this just seemed so unprofessional and rude. Other than the strange way I was treated for asking for something I clearly saw them do for someone else seconds before the estate had nice things and seem competitively priced. read more

I went to an estate sale hosted by Alameda Estate Sales and was appalled by the people running the sale. There was an older gentleman who seemed to be in charge that was rude to myself and a number of other people who asked simple questions. Worse yet, a gentleman checked out with him, and seemed confused by the pricing which the aforementioned man loudly and aggressively explained. When the gentleman left, the estate sale guy talked to one of his colleagues and jokingly shrugged off how he had overcharged the guy ("3 for $10, 2 for $10 - eh whatever."). It leaves a bad taste to come to an event hosted by a person like this. But if I was a family member and knew my loved one's home and items were being handled by someone like this, I would be livid. read more

For example I bought a life sized Joco the monkey by Steif. Peter's estate sales are always well organized. The staff is very helpful. Peter is so enthusiastic. No Pete, we are not confusing you with another company. When we asked you if there was an inventory or a contract, you said no. My friends were grieving the loss of their life partner. Basically, Alameda Estate sales was asking us to turn over the keys to the apartment and they would send us a check when everything was done. There was no inventory, no contract, no formal agreement, just the assurance that you do this "all the time". My friends were very uncomfortable with the informality and the suggestion that it was a normal way to proceed. When people are grieving, that's not what they need. Pete and his crew did an outstanding job at difficult to access home in Mill Valley. He completely emptied the house of a 95 year old woman who had accumulated a vast assortment of art, furniture, household items, art studio supplies, etc over 50 years. He sorted the contents and sold a majority, donated significant of the rest to worthy charities, and recycle most of the remainder. He dealt with difficult neighbors, city officials, entitled heirs and buyers with a firm diplomacy that kept the drama to a minimum. Furthermore, he not only sold much of the inventory at the three day estate sale on-site, but took the remaining inventory to his subsequent estate sales to maximize the income and minimize the amount going to a land fill. read more

Based on the positive testimonials posted on Yelp, I chose Alameda Estate Sales to handle the liquidation of my Mother's possessions following her death. It was the best decision I could have made. This was quite a job considering my Mother lived in the house for 72 years! Jamie showed us the piece, taking time to answer our questions and shared his considerable knowledge of vintage and antique furniture. The price was more than fair, and we were expecting to have everything delivered by a third company but when Jamie realized my parents' place was close by he and Pete delivered it for a very reasonable price. They were very friendly and personable in all our interactions and Jamie was highly responsive to questions. My dad realized the next day that one of the table pads to cover the table was missing.
