I had been wanting to make it back to this place ever since I stopped for chips and hummus in the fall with my parents. I had veryyyyy fond memories of the chips and they did not disappoint on round 2. My friend and I intended to come for bar et bouffes; however, we were too enticed by the whole menu to limit ourselves to the confines of a pre-set menu--it was a good deal though! We ended up ordering the chips and hummus, parmesan fondu, pulled pork sandwhich, and 1/2 kilo of wings to split. It was a lot of food that's for sure. The fondu was not what we expected but suuuper tasty. Overall super quite place with great decor and reasonable prices--I love the cathedral theme. Tres hip vibes. read more

Saint-Sacrament is a cool, rustic-looking bar in a sweet location just across from Station Mont-Royal. At first we were planning on going for the Bar et Bouffe event on this week but when we arrived and saw the regular menu, we decided to split a bunch of things off that menu instead. Food: - 1/2 Kilo BBQ Wings - Brought to our table in the big bowl they used to toss the wings and poured onto the parchment on the paper... what a fun presentation! - Pulled pork sandwich - A little disappointing compared to everything else. I didn't find the sauce smoky or flavourful enough. - Hummus and salsa with tortilla chips - Crispy and lightly spiced homemade tortilla chips. The hummus was really tasty. The salsa was chunky and went perfectly with the chips - Parmesan fondue - We thought it would be a dip but it was actually two pieces of breaded and deep-fried parmesan fondue. Unexpected presentation but SUPER delicious and worth a try! Service: Quite attentive and REALLY efficient. Atmosphere: A little bit loud but to be expected for a bar/ bistro like this. Really nice place! Can't believe I never came here before. It's got an awesome character with wooden furniture but also plasma screens. Excellent beer on tap. Excellent pub food. They make good fries and great BBQ poutine with soft braised pork that just melts in your mouth. We were here on a rainy Sunday evening and it was far from full. The beautiful staff were really nice and they looked like they were having loads of fun with their friends at the bar, and thus ordering seconds, and finally getting the bill proved a bit of a task... Reading through some reviews had prepared me for that though :) we will probably be back! read more

Stopped in the other night with a friend for a glass of wine and ended up staying pretty late. We even invited more people to join us! Typical wine and beer list, nothing fancy, but the atmosphere was enjoyable and the wait staff were attentive. We ordered wings, ribs and a pulled pork sandwich with slaw. The food was delicious for your standard pub grub. My only displeasure was that they don't accept debit - Only cash or credit. They have an ATM, but I think businesses (especially bars) should acknowledge that the benefits of accepting debit far outweigh the costs. Anyway, that's only my two cents. This place has some good options. The wings are very good. Be forewarned that they are not your classics chicken wings. They're fried and coated with a sweet sauce vs. hot sauce. I liked the presentation as well. I don't know if this is standard practice in Montreal but they lay out a giant piece of parchment paper and just dump them out in front of you. They provide a warm bowl of water with lemon to clean your fingers off (I'm assuming). Much more efficient and less wasteful then those moist towelettes. Anyway, the escargot was delicious. The sauce was perfect--I just wish there was more of it to soak your bread in. The cod fritters had good flavor but were wayyyyyy way to salty. I actually don't recommend them, unless they decide to lay off the salt. I would consider myself a salt girl too! The waitress was friendly but failed look our way twice when I was trying to wave her down for a new beer. read more

One of my favorite bars. The food here is pretty good and the fries with spicy mayo are always great to accompany your beer. Today a friend and I each ordered a bacon cheese burger and it was great. The meat was juicy and the bacon was crispy which is always a great thing to have in a burger. The service and music volume here however is never great. The music or the TV is always super loud and the service is always a bit slow because the place is usually packed. Understandable to a certain degree but maybe hiring more servers and lowering the volume so that you can hear your friends or your date talking would help. read more

Swung in here on a recent early-summer weeknight and only later realized they'd just opened the place. It had been packed the previous weekend, with a front window that opens up onto the great terrasse on Avenue Mont-Royal. Terrasse was unfortunately closed on this particular night as the permit was in transition, so we sat inside. Our fab serveuse, Emilie, was very quick to serve us and knowledgeable on the beers on tap. Saint-Sacrament has house blonde and rousse brews, the former of which isn't stupendous in terms of taste but is rather good, and one could imagine sinking quite a few over the course of a Saturday night. Other beers on tap include Stella Artois, Hoegaarden, Alexander Keith's, and a couple others -- nothing out-of-the-ordinary. The bar seemed not quite as well-stocked as it could be, but the place does not profess to be a nightclub or cocktail bar, and Emilie was able to improvise where necessary. It is, quite directly, a tavern. Ambiance was really where Saint-Sacrament has things kicking on all cylinders. Amazing long wooden tables made from reclaimed wood are at bar-stool height, and are great for larger groups. (I anticipate if you show up at a decent hour on a weekend, you won't have to contort to ask for chairs from other tables.) Fantastic tin ceiling. There are about four or five individual and properly-interior-designed washrooms in the back. Place is spotless, and the music is fantastic: good mix of Rolling Stones ("Bitch"! Hadn't heard that in years), Johnny Cash, and other proper pub music blasting over a great sound system. After cranking the music up louder at one point, one of the proprietors actually came over to make sure our table wasn't disturbed by the volume, since we were right under the speaker. Nice touch there, too. (Considering the quality of the music we weren't disturbed at all.) There's at least one TV in there; it was being used for a Euro repeat when we arrived, but as the night wore on it was shut off in favour of the music, which is entirely proper for any reputable establishment. Didn't try any of the food, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked nice. Prices for the beer and liquor are very modest for a watering hole that has a proper sense of design and great service about it. Bottom line: certainly worth spending a few hours in here if you're in the Plateau on a weekend night (or even a weeknight). They're opened until 3am each and every night, too -- c'est génial! read more

Ok, one star would be too much. My son stopped there with a friend to have a beer: the place looked friendly from the outside. Ordered beers. Spilled a beer by accident. A half drunk patron grabbed my son s arm telling him he has to clean this... until my son and his friend decided that it was time to go. This scene was loud. People were staring. Staff was watching. The drunk started to kick my son (140 pounds) in the back and in the groin. The drunk was finally restrain. My son had to leave. The cops were not called. The drunk was protected by the staff. A regular? probably. It means that if you are not a regular at that bar, don t go. You will be treated as a second class citizen. Plenty of good bars in Montreal!!! May as well enjoy the fun ones! read more

Terrible food, terrible service, terrible atmosphere. No wonder they need tasteless publicity stunts to get people through the door.

This place just opened recently and I had to stop in because: it was sunny, there was room on the terrasse and the name made me laugh. The service was dead slow, it took them almost 10 minutes to notice us on the terrasse even though the inside wasn't even 1/4 full. Once we ordered our bottle of wine though, it came pretty quickly and the wine selection was decent and fairly-priced. If they can work out the kinks in the service, then this could easily be added to my roster of Mont Royal locals, but if I need to sit around for 10 minutes being ignored, then there are other places where I would rather get my drink on after work. read more

Today was my second time here. The first time I came it was pretty busy and the service wasn't great. The wings were delicious but it really bothered me how little attention the bartender gave me ( I was sitting at the bar). I have it another try since the wings were so good and the beer / drinks were pretty solid too. The service was still terrible. Stopped here with a friend while traveling in Montreal as a suggestion from our Air BnB host. It was an excellent place. The interior left a nice modern feel and it is a great place to grab a drink and a quick bite with friends. The drinks were a reasonable price and there were the menu offered many options. I went with the chips and hummus and salsa and was very pleased. Their chips are homemade and the spices used on them are a great flavor combination. read more
