Steve has been doing my taxes since I married Lynn. He's been doing HER taxes since before her first marriage -- I guess she got custody -- and quite simply, he and his staff do an excellent job. Filing your taxes -- even if you end up getting a refund -- is a pain in the a$$ due to all the paperwork one has to submit, calculations, record-keeping . . . but, seriously, Steve makes it as painless as possible . . . it's quick, it truly is painless, and he's a genius at getting you a refund (or, at the very least, minimizing what you actually do have to pay). He and his staff are knowledgeable, efficient, and extremely well-versed on the latest changes to that incomprehensible morass that is the Federal Tax Code. Although I am not going to Pam to do my taxes anymore, for the last 5 years I used them it was awesome. Extremely organized. They send you all the info about changes at the beginning of the year and you get to meet the cutie dogs they have. I recommend Steve and his staff to anyone in the arts. My brother-in-law is a weird guy. But I must admit, he has come through for me in weird, related-by-marriage ways. One of these note-worthy events is his recommendation of Steve as a good tax guy. I was having an issue with the IRS and it was very frustrating trying to resolve it on my own. I've called IRS a couple of times and had to wait looong time until I got to talk to someone... then someone else.... then someone else.... each person transfering to another person! Each time I called I got a different information.... So frustrating! Then a friend gave me Aaron's number so I could get some help. Aaron not only resolved my issue with the IRS but got them to give me a refund ! The guy knows what it has to be done and how to do it - it didn't take long for me to get a notice from the IRS telling me my problem was resolved! Thank you so much, Aaron! I try to keep my REALLY favorite spots secret; (... I don't like waiting in line at res truants, and the watch their prices go up!) I guess that policy doesn't hold with Steven, as he has put in place a team that is as good (perhaps) as he is... so there's little chance of NOT getting GREAT advice and care. I once got audited (small business at home, that really used MORE than the usual 'allowance' of square-footage, and was a seperate structure from the house... it raised flags..) Steve went with me (no CHARGE), and well, the first tax-guy was too low on the totem pole to understand the tax rules, or actually make ANY decisions, So Steve accompanied me to the 'BIG' Audit (just another guy, only one that COULD make decisions and understand the tax laws), and all was forgiven. read more

Was referred to this group by a colleague that had been working with Steven for years with great reviews. Unfortunately Steven is not taking new clients. I was then offered to see his partner, Richard Snow. Meeting with Richard was an odd experience. He's somewhat abrupt, but would have been fine except for what happened afterwards. We received an email a couple weeks later sending us the link to sign our returns online, which we completed. A few days later, we received a follow up email stating we had to sign again, as some adjustments had been made (without any details). We wrote back to ask why it had been adjusted, and received a brief email back mentioning some e-trading statements (which we don't have). We then wrote back asking about this, as it seemed off, to be told that actually it had been another clients, that had been placed into our account as a mistake, and that the original should be fine. Obviously this isn't a confidence builder, and I wrote to say as much. Finally, when we got our refund online, I noted that the numbers were different from the paper copy that we received. When I wrote to clarify this (especially given our previous experience), we received an email from Richard stating it was correct, with a return attached which was different than what had been mailed. Our experience was lackluster, and will not be using them again in the future. read more

Steve has been doing our taxes since 1990. His office is conveniently located above La Cumbre on Valencia Street near 16th Street, in the Mission, the 22 Fillmore bus stops nearby. Steve has always been fair, accomodating & you actually have a good time chatting while he sorts out your business. I know that sounds weird--who has fun doing their taxes, right? He's a great guy who specializes in tax issues regarding artists, entertainers, writers & musicians. Once I received bad news from tge IRS. I was going to be audited. Steve showed up to the audit (which CPAs aren't legally required to do.) it went fine & we weren't hit with any fines. Thanks Steve! We love his staff, but the other CPA who I think may take over when Steve takes his well-deserved retirement--well, let's just say he has a lot to learn from Steve. He's pretty stuffy & not very friendly. So let's hope Steve sticks around & shows him the ropes. read more

Sometimes one gets referrals in really weird ways. I am a dog nut. I have really complicated taxes. A guy who worked on my house a few years ago said: you should go to my tax guy: he's also a dog nut! I'd been doing my taxes myself until then but i figured: hey, why not. I am a MUCH happier person now that Steve does my taxes. And i sleep better! And he *is* a dog nut so i bring one of my dogs to my tax appointment and Steve loves it. I used Steve to do my taxes back in the early 1980s based on a referral from a colleague when I was living in Berkeley, and continued to use him until 1987 even after I moved from California. Although it has been 25 years, I'm glad to see that Steve is still around. I was audited TWICE, 2 years in a row, and with Steve's help in responding to the requests from the IRS, I ended up getting additional small refunds after each audit. How many people can claim that?
