For the next two months my fiance and I barely received updates, despite the law firm agreeing to weekly calls with my fiance, since I could not call from the jail. Furthermore, the attorney on the case seemed very disinterested in the outcome of the case. Instead of providing me with the legal council he was hired to provide, he essentially shrugged and told me "whatever you want to do". Ultimately that law firm was fired and after receiving a referral from someone else in the jail, we retained Michelle. Despite hiring her on a Friday and with a hearing scheduled for the following Tuesday, Michelle dove head first into the case, gathering all the information she had access to until she became the attorney of record. She set up a video visit with me on Monday, then saw me in person on Tuesday after the hearing. Not only was I able to call her from the jail, she stayed in constant contact with my fiance, providing her with frequent updates. She hounded the State Attorney, who has a reputation of being unreasonable, until she received a response. Michelle made multiple legal challenges regarding my violations, all of which the State Attorney conceded too. The State Attorney, while refusing to agree to a plea, did agree to not argue against reinstatement if I open plea to the judge and admitted to the remaining 2 violations (She got 1 dropped). At the next hearing, Michelle utilized her decades of experience in court rooms and dealing with judges to read the room, so to speak, and decided to throw a hail mary. Michelle, instead of pushing for the Judge to reinstate me, which the State wasn't going to argue against, (I was facing a possible max of 5 years in prison), Michelle asked the Judge for early termination. I had completed 8.5 of 10 years of probation, had all court fees paid off, was up to date on my monitoring fees, had completed treatment and had no violations prior to these. Even though the best possible outcome in my mind was early termination, my fiance and I were not expecting termination, but, the Judge ruled that my probation be revoked and terminated, eliminating my last 18 months of probation. The saying used to be "You get what you pay for", it is definitely true on this case. While Michelle is not the cheapest attorney around, she was worth every penny. Had it not been for her, and had I kept my first attorney, it is very likely that I would have ended up going to prison, but because of her, I can enjoy life without the burden of an ankle monitor or a curfew. My fiance and I are able to do things we couldn't do before, and that is because of Michelle. We can't thank her enough, and God forbid I ever need another attorney in the future, she's the only person I'll call.

If we'd had council this good to start, there'd been no prison time at all; now, we were trying to cancel an RSO's probation early - which absolutely NO ONE had heard of occurring without 'therapy' being completed (and miraculously, therapy is NEVER completed until probation ends...) John Guidry took the case, got the hearing, and the Judge ruled in my son's favor. I doubt we'd have had similar success with anyone else! He communicated well, thought on his feet when the Prosecutor's office tried to throw a curve ball or two, and all in all presented us a win with honesty. courtesy and professionalism.
