Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? While my server at The Yiros Shop seemed to be no older than sixteen, he was very polite and efficient, and explained my options to me in a way that directed me towards some good options. I was disappointed that they didn't accept American Express, but I'm finding that's pretty common in Australia. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $15.50 AUD got me a pretty good sized mixed meat yiro, which was a pretty good deal even though, as you'll see, they skimped on the meat a bit. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'll start off by saying that I liked the selection of meats and peripherals at The Yiros Shop, and it was clear that these were some fresh ingredients. Having said that, I felt a bit robbed of those fresh looking meats, and instead my mixed meat yiro was packed with french fries, tahini sauce, and vegetables with a notable lack of meats. That's not uncommon I suppose, but something to keep an eye on. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? The Yiros Shop was good, but there are so many great kebab or comparable options in town that I can't recommend The Yiros Shop with any sort of enthusiasm. No Star.

I'll be honest, I only recently just found out the name of this place, yet I have been there…read morecountless times. "How can an individual patron a store regularly yet not know it's name" I hear you fret. The answer: alcohol. Shah Kebab (not "that kebab place near to bus stop in The Valley") is the perfect final destination after a night out. You booze hounds out there know that the ideal remedy for an impending hangover is to buy a kebab and munch it down as quick as you can. I don't know how it works, but it just does. I imagine it has something to do with the speed of the consumption, but I am no Einstein. The Shah Kebab also offers pizza and chips, amongst other greasy delights. For some reason I didn't enjoy the chips I ate there once, I think they were cold or stale or something, but I don't remember clearly. All I remember was the feeling of betrayal and loss, mixed in with the taste of undercooked potato. My advice, stick to the kebab or the pizza. The Shah Kebab is open pretty much 24 hours, but in my opinion, if you're still out a 6 am you should use that money to catch a taxi home immediately before the sun has fully risen. At the end of the day the Shah Kebab isn't that bad but I'm not sure if I'd bother eating there sober.

It is topped with all sorts of things I love like spinach, feta cheese, black olives and fresh herbs... mmm... I have heard that Shah is pretty famous for it's kebabs (especially with the Fri/Sat late night drunken patrons) but I had heard no reports about it's pizza. So last Wednesday night on my way home from a late night Valley meeting I picked one up. Now I consider myself a bit of a pizza connoisseur (having worked in a pizza shop for over a year) and honestly, for $15 this is a pretty damn good pizza. I can only speak for the Vegetarian variety - however I am sure the rest are on par. So, next time you are in the valley thinking about how good that kebab will be - maybe consider sharing a pizza instead (your friends will thank you for it)!

Whether its chicken, lamb, Donner or Falafel you are after or even a mix of all, Oz kebab has some of the best. Not only do they do great kebabs for about 7 dollars it's also quite entertaining while you wait. The staff are all very friendly and have good time dancing to the music blasting though the place. It is a take away kebab shop so advice would be to eat it the taxi but just make sure its on the sly.

For over a decade now, the bars of Caxton Street have been barely scraping it in as a place to visit, or so I gather from the amount of patrons I've seen when driving past. I did go to The Caxton Hotel one afternoon during the week last year, and though it was quiet, this was at sharp odds with the usual night-time chaos and I quite enjoyed myself. Back to the never-ending march of generations of Caxton Street Clubbing Patrons keeping places like Oz Kebab alive. Oz Kebab is a very casual, friendly set-up - it really is a stall, basically. And because those working at Oz Kebab are providing what patrons want (quick food), they're fortunately rarely the focus of any outdoor drunken biffs. (That's usually a patron vs. patron affair.) I love food, but kebabs aren't at the top of my list of favourite items. For around $6-$8 I could alternatively get a large pizza slice around the corner and I'd prefer that. Or almost anything else, really. Something about the processed meat on the spindle, methinks.
