I don't get the bad reviews. Over priced? If you want good work then you've got to be willing to pay the price. Not that they're terribly expensive, but you get what you pay for. That Dr. Peck is not hospitable? That man takes the time to sit with you being the owner of the office and a very busy man. LOVE this place. I loathe dentists and have been to many in several different states, but this place is TOP NOTCH. You step inside a historic downtown Springfield building (major bonus points for having a business in a historic Springfield building) and the inside is beautiful. A lot of windows/natural light creating a modern industrial look. The staff are very friendly from the front desk folks to the dental hygienist to the dentists. I've been there twice so far and each time a great experience. They also offer a WIDE range of services and make great referrals in the rare case that they need to. They didn't shame me when I was a little behind/slow to respond for follow ups either :) I will say the prices are a bit on the high side so if you are paying cash, be aware of that. To answer everyone's first question, yes it is a little pricey but you get what you pay for! This is honestly the best dental office i've ever been to, after this I won't go anywhere else. The staff was very patient and very kind. They we're so thorough and explained all my options. If you have good insurance you won't pay too much in out of pocket expenses. They do not accept mass health. The atmosphere is quiet and calm, it honestly takes the usual stress of those types of appointments away. Highly recommend! read more

Let's face it, most of us have probably had some sort of horror-movie-like dentist visit. I have had more than I can count, so it's become unnerving whenever I visit the dentist, especially one I'm seeing for the first time. My boyfriend recommended Taylor Street Dental to me, after hearing me gripe about the prices and the wait time at my previous dentist. As someone who doesn't have dental insurance, the cost is very important to me. I figured I would try out this place, so I called for a quote on a cleaning. I thought that the price seemed reasonable and the receptionist was sweet as pie, so I went ahead and booked the dreaded cleaning. I arrived for my morning appointment, took the elevator up to the floor, and when the doors opened the Taj Mahal of dental offices stood before me. The space is a beautifully renovated building in downtown Springfield, that stayed true to the architecture by featuring open brick walls everywhere. The waiting room had a fish tank, television, tons of magazines, and a coffee/tea and water station (mini fridge with water bottles). I was just about to ask them if I could move in and live there, when Angie, my hygienist called me in. Angie was very welcoming, and she gave me a thorough tour of their facility and also pointed out a lot of their dental technology, which was very impressive. Then, she led me to the chair of doom, or so I thought... ...Now, I'll spare you the details, but let me just say that I am no longer scarred by the dentist. Angie was wonderful. She thoroughly cleaned my teeth, explained everything to me in so much detail, and even showed me pictures of my teeth to help me better understand what she was saying. Dr. Peck came in to check things out, and he was just as great as everyone else in the office. What I loved most is that they weren't pushy at all. There's a little bit of work that I need done, but they both laid out all of my options for me and never once made me feed pressured to commit to work that I wasn't ready to pay for, and that was so appreciated. They were very mindful of the fact that I'm paying out of pocket, which is something most dentists don't do for you. I scheduled another follow up next month, and dare I say that I'm actually looking forward to this visit? I just might be! read more

The background to my review of Dr. David Peck: I consider myself an expert on what it takes to be a good dental patient/consumer. I have been to a number of different kinds of specialists (endodontist, orthodontist, maxillofacial, etc) and a variety of generalists over the years. As can be expected, I have had a wide variety of dental experiences, and I've experienced a range of quality, comfort, knowledgeable practices, and skill sets. With that said, I'm afraid I would not recommend Dr. Peck to anyone. When it came time to choose a new dentist, I relied on the Valley Advocate's "Best Of The Valley" choices; Dr. Peck was at the time voted the number one people's choice. Dr. Peck's television commercials portray him as a smiling, warm, and affable dentist, but I did not find him to be such when I met him in person. I found his affect to be acceptable to brusque until I opened my mouth for an examination, at which point I found it very difficult to tolerate the intensity of the experience. In other words, when I say I need to go slowly, and I need to stop when I say stop, I expect that this will happen with grace and speed; this was not my experience with Dr. Peck. I found his staff to be very pleasant, but really, they were too pleasant. I always felt like they were trying to suck up to me, like a sales associate at mid-range clothing store, which made me very uncomfortable. I felt that my interests and family were part of a database of information they used to build false rapport with me. I wondered why this was necessary. I had very good dental insurance, but I was still constantly and automatically upsold on various treatments, products, and visits to the point where I felt that I had to ask specific and careful questions before proceeding with the simplest teeth-cleaning. I had problems refusing bundled services, and I experienced frustration when it came to requesting that a specific portion of my records be sent to a specialist; though I had paid nearly $300 out-of-pocket for a specialized digital x-ray series, I was told that the doctor kept no notes or written information in the patient files that could be shared with any other dentist, even if I signed for it. I asked for my extensive set of expensive, large, high-resolution digital x-rays to be sent to me via email, and I only ever received three tiny, low-resolution images. I believe that this was because the dentist wished to limit my ability to use these images at any other care provider. I felt that his usual manner of conversation was condescending as well as slick, and I thought his high prices did not correspond well with the dark, windowless Springfield cube farm of an office, with really bad AM radio playing nonstop to drown out the lack of privacy. When I tried to inquire as to why an item at his practice cost four times as much as the same item as a comparable local practice, he told me that it was because that's what it costs. I'm sorry, but if you want to play like that, move to Beverly Hills. I expressed my desires and goals when I came into his practice, and these concerns perhaps looked like insecurities, because I received a treatment plan that seemed to play significantly on those raised issues in a worst-case scenario fashion. The treatment protocol was shocking to me in its scope and proposed cost: nearly twenty thousand dollars to sand down and crown the majority of my teeth, just because someday, some fillings *might* fail. When I tried to discuss the plan with him, Dr. Peck sounded very dismissive, and he reminded me that he had patients who traveled all the way from Boston to see him. Yes, I, too, saw his TV, print, and internet commercials, where this fact features prominently. My instinct was to go immediately to another dentist for a second opinion; I also sought a third. Both dentists confirmed my suspicion that this was an overzealous, unnecessary, and too-costly proposal. While in Dr. Peck's care, I received various pieces of promotional material, including a calculator, several folding mirrors, magnets, and pens. But my favorite thing that happened was when I received another targeted marketing letter in the mail just after I received my treatment plan: paired with the ham-handed letter was a scratch-off lottery ticket. The gist I took away from the letter was that it would be so great if I won, because it would help offset the cost of treatment and let me buy more equipment for my [insert random hobby]! I thought that this was so tacky. In fact, I thought it was all quite tacky. I'm so glad he's no longer my dentist; I certainly wouldn't trek two hours from Boston to visit his office! [Edited to add: about four years after I wrote this review, Dr. Peck wrote me a canned comment, to which I cannot directly respond, for some reason. Incredibly, he invited me to return to his practice; after the treatment I received, and the experience I had, I'll have to decline.] read more

I just got home from a deep cleaning appointment at Dr. Peck's office... I would consider myself a very skeptical patient, who is a big baby when it comes to the dentist. Dr. Peck and his Dental hygienist Angela Have been trying to convince me for over a year to do this deep cleaning. Well I finally started this cleaning, and I'm glad that I'm doing it. My mouth feels great, and it did not hurt at all! Angela is the best hygienist I have ever had, and she truly cares about your dental care, it is not just lip service. If your looking for a cheap dentist, Dr. peck is not your dentist.. However, if you want to pay a little more for outstanding service and care, then I highly recommend him! read more

I really have nothing to add to the previous reviews. This practice is in a beautiful office with friendly, informative hygienists, assistants and dentists. They have up-to-date technology and are willing and able to walk you through everything they are doing using this technology. Although I didn't see Dr. Peck professionally, he came over during my first visit, introduced himself and welcomed me to the practice. I have only good things to say about my experience at Taylor Street Dental. That being said, all of this comes at a price, as you would expect. I have PPO dental insurance, and this practice is not in-network, so I knew my out-of-pocket costs would be higher. But in addition to the deductible and higher co-pays (which I expected) the amount my insurance didn't pay due to the cost being over R&C (reasonable and customary for the area) ranged from 25-50% of the charged amount. I had a hint that this was coming due to R&C being mentioned explicitly in the introductory paperwork. I'm not saying the care isn't worth it, or that I wouldn't pay more for great care if that were an option - but for many of us, it just isn't. It's a very personal and individualized decision, preferably one that's made before the bill arrives. My recommendation would be - if you have insurance, ask explicit questions about what will be covered and what won't. This way you will know your out-of-pocket up front and not be surprised when you receive the bill. Many services are optional, and my impression is that the staff would not be at all upset if you refused care you can't afford. But be aware, you will be paying at least something out-of-pocket. Bottom line - if money is not an obstacle, I highly recommend Taylor Street Dental for your dental needs. It is head and shoulders above any other practice I have frequented in this area. read more

This is the best dental office I have been to in years. I had a wisdom tooth that got infected and no other office in the area would return my calls or emails. Taylor Street Dental got me into the office in a few days and were able to get my tooth out in the next 48 hours. It was a difficult tooth positioned on an angle. But the doctor accepted the challenge and my tooth was pulled with no pain at all. I'm new to the area from the west coast and this is going to be my new dental office. This dentist is wildly overpriced (to pay for all his advertising and flashy gismos). I found him condescending and unforthcoming particularly when asked about the plan of care and the cost of treatment. Though his staff were all friendly, the top down attitude was evident That he's voted best of the valley in the Advocate all the time must be a reflection of his own aggressive marketing. Paid $18,000.00 to have bone grafts after pulling teeth. I was advised to get the grafts "just in case you want implanrs". Well I have an implant and hate it which I told Dr. Peck. He kept trying to get me to do the grafts and I finally gave in. My gums have ridges sticking out which hurt constantly as to where I can not wear my partials that cost me a $18,000.00. The office was very friendly. So friendly; it was a sales ploy. I had a cleaning and check up. They made a third appointment a week latter to complete the cleaning because they said my gums were irritated. When I received the bill for the cleaning; I couldn't believe my eyes. The Bill was almost $600.00 for a cleaning, xrays and a check up. They wanted to have me come back for 3 cavities. They estimated just under $1,000.00. Thieves!!!!! I have been seeing Dr Peck for approximately 11 years. He is the most professional and caring professional that I have been to. I am extremely dental phobic and I find that his caring attitude and professional manner are both calming and soothing. He will frequently ask if I'm doing okay and if I need him to stop doing something he will immediately stop and give me a break to gather my resolve if requested. He has done extensive, much needed work on my teeth and I am very satisfied with my progress. Dr Lee, surgeon, has also worked with me and I find him also to be professional and concerned. He loves to see successes and doesn't appear to be satisfied with only okay. He wants to see great results. It has been a long road to completion due to my own health complications but the team at Dr David Peck's office have never given up on my issues. I had my last surgery today and I am so satisfied with results. I am eternally grateful to Drs Peck and Lee for their presence and for keeping me from looking old before my time. I had a real bad experience from start to finish . I was never told by his receptionist that Dentist Peck, did not accept my insurance. I was put in a dental chair and waited thirty minutes to be seen by the dentist. His assistant came in with a mirror, and kept pushing it in my face demanding to know what I wanted ! When he finally came in his behavior was condescending and rude. When I opened my mouth for examination he forcefully push a sharp dental instrument in a few places to make my gums bleed. He than said you need about $15,000.00 worth of work . He also recommended I get my teeth whitened before any work was done on my teeth . He quoted me $500.00 to whiten my teeth . He than insisted I had gum disease and would need special treatment every 3 months . ( It was confirmed by 2 other dentist, I did not have gum disease.) His ridiculous prices for Springfield area, made me laugh. This is not Hollywood !! His main concern was what channel I seen his commercial on ? LOL He sent me follow up letters with scratch tickets, begging me to come back. This guy is so full of himself, over charges his patients, and treats his patients like their uneducated. My experience here was so terrible that I felt the need to create a Yelp account just so that people are aware of the things that go on here. I've always been the kind of person who hates to say negative things about others. The only reason why I came here to share rather than just taking my business elsewhere is because the practices here have the ability to really impact someone's life in a horribly negative way. I know how it feels to be in a tough spot. There's absolutely no excuse for anyone, especially someone who is supposed to be there to help, to take advantage of that. ***The short version of it is this: I was told I'd need to spend over $5,000 to fix the ten cavities in my mouth. After a second opinion, it turns out that I've only got a maximum of three incredibly minor cavities and one very bad one. The latter was fixed for $200. *** The pros: The office is pretty. They seem to have very high quality equipment. They're flexible with how you pay (because getting your money later is better than not getting it at all!) The cons: Everything else. I came in sometime in October with a pretty bad toothache. I was nervous about going in because I know how constricted our financial situation is. My mother is working hard to put me through college without any assistance. Between that and unexpected medical bills of her own, we're a bit tight on money. I explained this to the nice-seeming woman who performed my x-rays. She smiled and said they'd do everything they could to help. This was the first lie. I should have been tipped off by the fact that she pressed the idea of me getting my jaw filed down to correct my slight underbite. I'm not fond of it, but I told her that I absolutely did not want my jaw filed down so that my teeth lined up perfectly. After performing the x-ray, she came back with a grave expression and told me that things just didn't look too good. She said that I had TEN teeth with cavities in them. The reason why I didn't know about these cavities was because they were all between my teeth, so I can't see them without an x-ray. This was horrifying news. After dropping over a thousand dollars to pay for that x-ray, we left with four appointments to fix all of my teeth, going one quadrant at a time. They wanted to fix the upper right, upper left, lower right, and lower left sides of my mouth for about $1,500 each visit. When we expressed that that would be too expensive, they graciously offered us a few payment options. Now that it's March, it was time for my first visit. We were a little strapped for money so we asked if it would be possible to take care of just the tooth that ached. They refused. It would be "easier" for Dr. Peck to do the entire quadrant and he wouldn't want to just do the one. I'm sorry, but only one of my teeth hurts. He cares more about charging us for multiple teeth than relieving the pain I feel in one? In addition, the receptionists struggled to give me the correct price. One was very condescending. At this point, I was certain that we were being taken advantage of. I urged my mother to seek a second opinion. When we had the X-rays sent to another office, I was absolutely appalled with what they told me. They couldn't see any of these 10 cavities that Taylor Street Dental claimed were present. I went to my new dentist two days later. When we explained the situation, they were just as angry and confused as we were. They performed another x-ray of my mouth, free of charge, and discovered two or three areas of early-stage decay. "They're not quite cavities yet, but we'll patch them up for you." My bad tooth was taken care of in 30 minutes with a wonderful dentist who I'll be reviewing here as well. Now, my new dentist does not have all of the fancy equipment that Taylor Street possesses. But even if Taylor street somehow has INCREDIBLE x-rays that can see things that others can not, ask yourself this. Let's pretend I do have 10 cavities. If a cavity is too small to be seen on ALL x-rays, is it really a priority to pressure a patient to fix it? Especially when they told you that they're not financially able to do so? Furthermore, if the cavities did exist and they were that small, why on earth would it cost over $5,000 to fix them? In conclusion, Taylor Street Dental can be one of two things. At best, they're a bunch of people that care far more about money than doing what's best for a patient. They'd rather charge an exorbitant amount of money for very small amounts of work (10 nearly invisible cavities) despite their patients' inability to pay. This is my assessment after giving them the benefit of the doubt. At worst, they care so much about money that they were willing to drill into teeth that were still healthy under the guise that there were somehow 10 cavities between them. I really wish to think that the former is true, but it doesn't make sense to me that the 10 cavities didn't appear on a second x-ray. Please avoid this place. read more
