This is the amount of fries you get for almost 14.00

I've recommended this place to everyone since I first tried it over 4 years ago. Spent thousands at this place in that time. I will not be recommending it anymore after my last experience. Prices have recently gone up again, and service has gone down. Ordered a double cheeseburger with bacon and fries. I drove over to pick it up. 25 min round trip. Got home and bacon was missing. Common thing with this place. Had it happen many times. Got halfway through the burger and noticed there was only 1 patty on it, and then I was really mad. I called the restaurant and told them and they said they would have someone remake it. So, 30 minutes later I get home with the new burger. Open it up to find that I got 1/4 of the fries I gave them back with the burger they messed up. Probably 15-20 of the short bottom of the bag fries. Then there was 1 little overcooked piece of bacon on the burger. The size was noticeably smaller since the price went up. It was almost $14 for this burger. Just because someone has a pulse, it doesn't make them a cook. I work very hard for my money and if I'm going to pay almost an hours wages for a burger I expect it to be done right and not to be cheated.

Mushroom Appetizer. They weren't out of them. Yeah!!! Not frozen, made fresh.

Excellent food! Had the fried chicken livers and chicken fried steak. The food was cooked to perfection and served with a smile.

The beef was tasty and the au Ju was wonderful. My wife got the senior Hot Dog. It was only 5 bucks so I didn't think much ... what came out was a grilled 1/4 lb dog and it was cooked to perfection. The entire meal was 25.00 with a tip and we were very happy!! Great food will be back 100% anytime we are near here!!

However, the wise and folks that love to explore, will insist on experiencing what's most important--the food, service and atmosphere. Hands down, this place prepared one of the best tasting and presentable steaks I've ever had! It was seared with perfection, tender and melted in my mouth with flavorful juices. The service was amazing! Services was amazing because they were being themselves and moving with a sense of urgency. They weren't trying to put on "a show of perfection". Constant communication amongst themselves and with customers. That feeling you find in a happy, warm and family oriented place usually called home. No fancy name needed to the restaurant, or corporate owned image that chain restaurants have. Just a restaurant conjoined to a convenience store/gas station, that can easily put to shame big name restaurants. Whomever may read this review of mine, do yourself a beautiful gesture...come indulge and enjoy an epic steak, or even something else off the menu. Oh yeah, and their apple cobbler and strawberry cake are super!

Lets start with the fact there are only a few restaurants of any "quality" whatsoever in Doniphan,…read moreMO. That being said, this is likely the most expensive $$$ place, and they have the market cornered. If you know good food, 1808 does a decent job, but for the price, falls far short of what should be a top notch meal. We've eaten here several times. First impression was a huge disappointment. Old booths and chintzy tables and chairs, mostly uncomfortable. The Carbonara with an ok amount of grilled chicken (usually pretty decent), at $15 or so, includes a side salad. However, on this latest visit, the hubs ordered a Protein Bowl. Usually chicken, but he upgraded to Salmon, which was an ADDITIONAL $4. The depressingly lame bowl was filled with mostly white rice, had a small portion of very dried out, overdone salmon and maybe 5-6 small chunks of cucumber. Oh, and bam-bam sauce on the side. Seriously. I wish we'd gotten a photo. This was an $18 meal. I personally would be embarrassed to serve up such a dismal dish. No garnish, nothing to pretty it up or make it look appetizing. To top it off, it took quite a while to get the meal, and the restaurant wasn't busy. For being supposedly upscale, the wait staff wears T-shirts, short shorts, tennis shoes, yoga pants, and generally gives it a look like this place should be a dive bar. Ok, if that's your goal, but lower the prices to suit the atmosphere! On top of that, our previous visit the server was dropping F-Bombs at the table. Just holy cow! I can't think of a less desirable dinner out. If this were my place, the tables would have linens, the servers would be wearing black slacks, white shirt and a black apron and shoes, to suit what is supposed to be a nice place and a better choice than any competition. It's ok at best. Sometimes the food is dead on, sometimes it's lame as heck, like this last visit. Lesson finally learned. Sadly, I'll start choosing McDonalds over 1808, because at least they are consisten and I know exactly what I'm getting. Take your chances, but understand that if you're there for food exclusively, it's a pretty good hit or massive miss. It appears the bar is a hopping place. You may be better served if you're looking for drinks and fun.

The chicken was breaded and fried near perfect, and the mashed potatoes with gravy also very good, the beans a nice rich flavor and cooked well. There is a strong multi-generational military veterans presence throughout the interior, and being a veteran it made me feel welcome and also proud.
