Visited this restaurant with a big group. They had musicians that kept the restaurant very lively and wait staff was friendly. The food was extremely flavorful and delicious! Would come here again and again. Had the chicken and it was the best meal I had in Portugal. MUST TRY if you like flavorful food.

    Babaghanous starter.

We stopped in for lunch and were instantly greeted and shown to a table for two. We started with tea and espresso, both rich and full bodied. Next, I opted for the lentil soup and was blown away at the depth of flavor for such a simple dish. I then had the basics, a falafel wrap that was simple, packed full of flavor and was incredibly fresh, the pickle was the perfect touch. My husband loved his grilled chicken kabobs with tangy garlic yogurt, again a simple dish with fresh ingredients that was perfect. To end, we went with the baklava assortment, each tangier and better than the first. A wonderful lunch.

THIS WAS MY FAVORITE PLACE FOR DINNER IN LISBON…read more============================================ I booked a reservation for our party of five for dinner at Sumaya on Monday, July 8, 2024 and I have to say I am a huge fan. If I ever visit Lisbon again I would definitely book a reservation there. Even my husband's cousin who has been a resident of Cascais for decades loved it and said she would go there again which is high praise. Not too shabby of a find from an L.A. East Yelper. We started off with a pitcher of their passion fruit sangria which was amazing. There was no wine in this sangria. It had vodka, rum, passion fruit and lots of other things. I am kicking myself for not ordering another pitcher of that. Definitely order that. We ordered the Sumay Grill to share which I also recommend. It has the best thinly sliced shawarma, lahme, kafta and shishtaouk. My daughter-in-law ordered some more chicken shishtaouk. Their garlic sauce was amazing. It reminded me of Zankou Chicken in L.A.. Their taboule was the best I have ever had in my life and I loved their baba ghanouj too. This was most likely my favorite meal of the nine days we were in Portugal.

Upon…read morearrival, the hostess asks if you have a reservation - if you do you get to sit in the part of the restaurant that has more life to it; if not you sit in the front room which was much quieter and only had one other table of of 2 people. Both are nice spaces but being a solo traveler it was a bit depressing having to sit alone in a dimly lit empty dining room looking out a window while others were dining in the lively space with an open kitchen. I understand that's how it is when being a table of one but moral is to make a reservation if you can b/c that would have been a better dining experience. The menu offers so many choices and is very vegetarian friendly. The server was helpful and provided recommendations. One thing I thought was tricky was how he brought bread to the table and asked "would you like some fresh bread and dips?" before putting it down. Since I had read reviews I knew to asd "doesn't that cost extra?" to which he replied yes so I opted to skip it. Especially because I was alone and most def couldn't have eaten all that food. The falafel hummus bowl was excellent. The hummus was perfectly prepared and beautifully creamy. It was served with warm pita that you could taste was housemade. That was some of the best pita I ever tasted. I also chose a watermelon basil mocktail which was very tasty. I wish I had room for dessert but was stuffed by the time I walked back to my accommodation.
