I have spent many hours and taking thousands of pictures using the "auto" mode, but I knew I could do better! After my initial meeting and describing to Malinda of the may issues I had taking pictures, she told me how to use the S mode and P mode in the most simplistic form , that when I came home to used what I had learned, I was happily surprised to see what an improvement my photos were coming out! I was pleased that I no longer needed editing apps or anything! After a couple of more lessons abs my never ending questions, Malinda was always there to answer and guide me through the process! My whirlwind trip to Cincy for NCECA pottery convention also included me hitting up some local…read moregalleries and participating in show receptions. I was enthralled walking into this space and the gallery displays were phenomenal! One of my favorite artists was actually there talking about her pieces- and it is always wonderful to meet the artist behind exhibited pieces! She made wonderful sculptures of busts and heads with what I would call brain chaos sprouting out of the tops of the heads. For me- I love art that sparks an emotional response, is something relatable, or something that just sparks my curiosity and imagination. There were plenty of other artists work there too and I loved several different pieces. On this particular evening I was sprinting through town hitting up several galleries- but this was my first stop and made a huge impression on me. The space itself is also wonderful. We were only allowed access to the downstairs gallery, I assume classrooms were upstairs or downstairs (or both) and I could see there were other exhibits, but those were closed. Cincinnati really embraced the NCECA pottery crowd and made sure to have as many exhibits across town as possible!

The Art Academy has come a really long way in the past few years. They used to be located in Mt…read more Adams but recently purchased a larger building in Over-the-Rhine and have moved everything downtown. It's a beautiful building on Jackson Street that was re-done to fit the style of the Art Academy. Inside there is a sprawling atrium that looks up all the floors around the staircases. There is gallery space all over the building and chances are there is some show up. Right now the SOS Political art show is hung up as well as the Visual Fringe Gallery for the Fringe Festival. The Art Academy generously donates a classroom to the Fringe Festival as well for it's use for a few plays and it's a great space for them! The Art Academy unfortunately had a rapid decrease in enrollment since their move downtown, which was to be expected. However, with the revitalization of the gateway quarter (as it's now being called) things should be looking up for them. If you are looking for a great art school for all aspects of visual art and design, this is the place to go!

A friend told me about Fitton Center in Hamilton when I shared with her the fact that I was…read moreinterested in doing block-printing. I called that day and got into their next class. The teacher is great and they have two printing presses. I've made prints - one of them hangs in my sons home proudly. Also, used the prints to put onto tote bags. They were exploring screen printing recently. Other classes include photography, mosaics, music, pottery, yoga and jewelry making. There are different exhibits going on as well as musical shows now and then. It is definitely a jewel in Hamilton.

I currently teach armchair travel and history seminars for Lifelong Learning, but have also taken a bunch of different classes through this program, including yoga, pottery, craft and cooking classes. The instructors are reputable professors, tradespeople and professionals within their industry. Prices vary depending on how many sessions are taught for the one class. A class like pottery will meet 7 or 8 times and the cost is around $100, whereas my one-class travel or history seminars only cost about $18-$20 for a 2-hour presentation. Cost is also based on whether or not you are a resident of Upper Arlington. The difference isn't very much for non-residents, but there is a slight price break for those who live in the neighborhood. If you want to explore your artistic side, drawing, photography, oil painting, watercolors, and craft classes are among the offerings. If you prefer something more physical, choose from a variety of fitness, meditation and dance courses. Each quarter also brings random "one-off" seminars focused on topics like speed reading, local history or political issues. Classes are offered year-round and catalogues come out every quarter.
