I signed up for school at Legacy Aviation for the January 2025 semester. I went through this credit union for a student loan, which is not from this credit union, but from Student Choice Loans. They use this credit union to approve or deny loans. Dylan is the Student Loan officer. I was not approved for the loan until I came down there at the Front street location to talk to Dylan, because of my credit not being stellar because I was incarcerated. After explaining things to Dylan, including my criminal record, he said that he would approve the loan if I provide him with my last two pay stubs for work and a letter from my service manager stating that I have a job to return to if I don't make it all the way through school. So I completed this. I started school at Legacy Aviation on January 06, 2025. After being in school for approximately two months, Legacy discovered that they never received the money. So the CEO, Peter Lane, talked to Dylan. He stated that I needed to find a job in order to approve the loan! So I'm going to school full-time, 8 hours of the day and I am required to work??? In what world is one required to work, WHILE IN SCHOOL, to get a STUDENT LOAN APPROVED!!! Long story short, I could not meet this requirement in time and had to walk away from school towards the end of March! Dylan was focused very much on my background, and it is my heartfelt opinion that Dylan added this stipulation as a means for further punishment for my background! He is a perfect example of many businesses in my area that refuse to help out people that are IMPROVING their lives and becoming much better members of society! read more

I am an Amateur Radio operator and I sent in a device back to the maker and developer of the item in Ukraine under warranty and all he wanted was the shipping back and TBA credit union will not do any transactions with anybody in Ukraine. It's my freaking money not theirs. Sounds like TBA has a hatred for innocent people being killed. If you deal with this company and you have any friends family or relatives in the Ukraine TBA does not like Ukraine. I will be soon taking every dime of my money out of the bank and never dealing with a bank again read more

Beyond comprehension! Remodeled a bank to be impersonal and unproductive. Completely debating changing banks. A teller in a machine. NO THANK YOU! It took 10min for an employee to help use the machine to change a $50 and tow $5 into 3 $20 dollar bills. read more

I have been a member of credit union since I was 12 have never experienced such poor customer service than at tbacu ! I was charged thousands of dollars in overdraft fees due to their slow system not being able to keep up with my transactions over the weekend ! When I called to have it taken care of the next morning the manager lady that I spoke with was very very rude and said she was closing my account even though I had just deposited $1,000 to cover the b******* overdraft charges they were trying to charge me ! Do yourself a favor and join a real Bank in Traverse City do not give these people a chance to take your money because they will you've been warned ! read more

Right from the start they charged me a nickel and dime member ship fee to deposit a large sum of money in a savings account. I will be closing the account and going to where large deposits are appreciated. I view this type of behavior as many other hidden fees to come. read more

Attempted to break a few small bills to get change. They wouldn't make change without an account. I get it, they don't need to because they're a business. But, they're a credit union dedicated to their customers based on the charter of national credit unions. Unlike Chase or BoA, they aren't tethered to shareholders who only want their bottom line massaged. Those banks don't care about anything. But, credit unions are usually about fostering relationships. I say this because Chase changed out the bills without an account. LMCU, a credit union, swapped out bills previously. I was in a hurry, was making a change run for my business and needed to get back quickly. That lack of service is why I went to LMCU to bank for both my personal and business needs. Even Meijer has made change for me before and they're not a bank. Again, I get it's their right to refuse service. But, it's also my right to find a bank without tellers who are impersonal, are not standing around at a kiosk with no other customers around and one which looks at every person as a potential valued customer. The nonchalant attitude comes from the top and that's not what I want from anyone dealing with me or my business. read more

I got a truck loan through TBA, even though I work for a competitor, and I'm very pleased with the people that work here. They're quick and extremely friendly. Some of these reviews are rather unfortunate, because a lot of people don't understand the laws and rules financial institutions have to follow. I moved to TC last year from Manistee. So, I left Filer City CU and Joined TBA CU. They were part of the same CU network and used the same web interface (It's Me 247) which I liked. -2 stars for charging a $0.35 fee for point of sale debit card transactions. WTF. Happy otherwise but considering finding a new CU because a point of sale fee is idiotic. **Edit: They resolved the fee issue after this review and replied which is pretty impressive. read more

Husband bought a truck and the loan was through this credit union and they make it impossible to make a payment, or find out how to do it. He has received no correspondence from them and they can't tell me if anything was ever sent or how to pay the payment. I would never use this company for anything. Follow up, if you get a loan through this credit union from a dealer, you will not be able to pay online from your bank. They force you to fund their savings account as the only source to pay from and even then there is no option to fund it online. When I try to set up a bill pay account, it says "We were unable to find your account information. Please try again." read more

I wanted to start business accounts for LLCs I just formed. I told the friendly guy I'd likely want to keep a balance of between $20-$50k in a money market account. Problem is TBA has to do a hard credit check before they'll set up a business account. I have great credit, in the high 700s and I offered to send them a report from my credit reporting service, but they said they have to do a hard check. In case you're not aware, a hard check lowers your credit rating. My current bank will open new accounts for me without a hard check, so I guess it's back to them. I like the idea of credit unions and so I thought I'd look into this for my new businesses. Oh well. read more
