    Scotiabank - ABM - no-envelope deposits!

The other week, I needed to make a deposit and stopped by. When I leave work, I tend to get to this mall well past 7 pm. This branch was closed last Monday night, but the two ABMs were open for business. I like that Scotiabank continues to replace its old ABMs with new ones that don't require envelopes for deposits. I inserted my cash, the scanner correctly determined how much I had inserted, I confirmed that everything was correct, and my deposit was complete. No fuss. No muss. Perfect! The only downside is that when this mall is closed, you are out of luck to use the ABMs. It's a nicely lit branch and the ABM area is clean. I'll need to remember to stop by this branch when I need an ABM. I'm glad that I finally did! (142)

The woman emerged from an office and told us that she would not be able to help us and to go back to the original branch we got the loan from. This does not make sense to us. If we had gotten a loan in Vancouver and moved across the country does this mean that we have to buy a plane ticket and fly back to Vancouver to visit the branch where we had gotten the loan? Isn't this a nationwide bank?

This branch was two doors down from Shoppers Drug Mart. It's a small branch. It's open Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 5 pm. On Saturdays, it closes an hour early at 4 pm. On Sundays, it's closed. Those hours are decent if you need to speak to a person to do teller services or more complex financial transactions. What surprised me was reading a notice saying that ATMs are only accessible between 8 am to 9 pm. Normally, ATM branch access is 24 hours. The idea is that the lobby where the ATMs are located are available. Technically, it can be or used to be done at this branch, but I don't know enough about the rationale to limit ATM hours. Perhaps there was a recent ATM heist? If you do need to do ATM banking after 9 pm through 8 am, the branch at Victoria Park Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East is available. I used one of the two ATMs at this bank. CIBC and Simplii cards work here without any ATM transaction fees. I liked that I could tap my card and then specify my PIN. It's refreshing to not swipe my card and wear out the magnetic strip over time. My transaction was smooth. The touchscreen had the perfect sensitivity. I like the option to not have a paper printout. I try my best not to use it, to save a tree or two. There is plenty of parking in this plaza. It was great finding this CIBC while running an errand at the drugstore. (162)

I have been a customer of Tangerine since it was ING Direct, which feels like eons ago. I lived in…read moreWinnipeg when I signed up for a savings account online. The mandate of this bank was to eliminate fees and operate without brick-and-mortar stores. Back then, the main headquarters was on Gordon Baker Drive. Scotiabank acquired ING Direct years later, which ultimately became Tangerine. A few years ago, I was unhappy with my bank of choice where I opened up a couple of accounts in Winnipeg. I decided to open a chequing account with Tangerine and transfer practically all my financial accounts over here. I have been happy with Tangerine ever since. Tangerine has its main headquarters at Steeles Avenue East, on the south side, just west of Victoria Park Avenue. It's oddly not all that far away from its old location on Gordon Baker. I pass by this building often. It's diagonally across from Don Valley North Toyota. It's on my way to ZeeV's Nutrition Studio. I definitely cut through the backroad to get to Shan Shan Cafe and Kung Fu Tea. I have never had to visit the main headquarters for anything. However, if you do need assistance opening an account, you can come here. The parking lot requires that you pay. If you are a Tangerine customer, you can get a parking pass, which waives the parking fee. It is a bit weird to ask for one, rather than making parking free right off the bat. Perhaps the building always had private parking and making it public would not be simple. This building also has Freshii and Tim Hortons. Both customers and Tangerine employees can eat healthy and indulge in donuts, respectively. A year ago, I worked with a Tangerine financial representative over the phone to move my RRSPs (Registered Retirement Savings Plans) from my old bank to Tangerine. I had a knowledgeable man help me out. He was working from home thanks to the pandemic. The weird thing was that he saw my employer's name on file and said that his son did an internship there. I asked who his son was. It turned out that I had worked closely with his son before he headed back to university for his final year. Small world! The apple doesn't fall from the tree. Both were and likely are still chatty guys. It is rare that I need to speak to anyone at Tangerine. I tend to do all my regular banking online or withdraw money at any Scotiabank ABM. When I do need a human to talk to, it's for my RRSPs, or that one time when my debit card looked like I had chewed on it as a snack and needed a replacement. With the latter, I got my replacement card within days and was happy. The best part about being a Tangerine customer is getting my paycheque directly deposited into my chequing account a day before the official payday. My payday is biweekly on Thursday. When I moved over to Tangerine, my pay was available after 9 pm on Wednesday. Roughly half a year ago, it got moved up to just before 6 pm on Wednesday. I'd like to thank Tangerine's IT department for running their nightly builds early. I feel like I've won the jackpot every pay period! Tangerine is awesome. Should I ever need help opening a future account and need to speak to someone in-person, I can always come here. It's probably a fifteen-minute drive from my home. (97)

I was told I had to set up a link and send my ID to them. I did not accept sending my ID just to switch banks linked to my account. I was told Calgary branches were all closed so I could not do it in person. I was directed by supervisor Marissa to verify a deposit made to my bank from Tangerine as a security measure and call her back. I spent hours on hold, nobody could transfer my call to Marissa, and then, she did not call me back as promised. Supervisor Will finally resolved it. I raised the stars to reflect it. Hold times are very long.

Tip: This branch is closed on Saturdays and Sundays…read more Yesterday, I was driving northbound along Woodbine Avenue, heading home after a long day. I spotted this CIBC branch on my right. I realized that I had been here before, but never wrote a review. It's time! It's not my favourite CIBC location. To start, it's closed on Saturdays and Sundays. It's like being in a time warp during the 1970's when businesses that weren't considered tourist attractions were closed on weekends in the greater Toronto area. Second, I don't know who the architect was who designed the weird lone step to get to the main entrance from the sidewalk, and then had to build a ramp for accessibility due to the single step. This person didn't think things through. Why? The weird single step looks so out of place. It seems crazy to create a ramp to fix this judgment or design error. Why not get rid of this ridiculous step right off the bat and maybe go with a shallow ramp to get to and from the sidewalk? There is decent parking around the building. A couple of accessibility parking spots are in front of the entrance. A large button is on the left side of the entrance that opens the doors after it has been pressed. This branch has teller services. It's open at 9:30 am and closes at 5 pm during weekdays. It does look and feel dated when you visit the branch. It kind of matches its archaic hours of operation. This CIBC has three ATMs. I've used one in the past. I had no issues doing a transaction at it. This branch is good if you need cash at an ATM, and you're staying at one of the Marriott hotels next door. You can simply walk over to use one of the ATMs. It is conveniently located off the Steeles Avenue East exit if you're been on highway 404. There aren't a lot of CIBC locations in this area. The next closest one is on Don Mills, a few large blocks south of Steeles Avenue East.. It's not my favourite branch, but I'm glad that it exists for those who need a CIBC in the area. (238)

What makes it worse is that they take forever to reply. It has been almost two months now since they've been "investigating" and no one has ever contacted me without me contacting them first.
