Total incompetence! Firstly, I opened a savings account with roughly $80K. It's a SAVINGS account so there's no need for transactions to occur on the account. Savings should be mostly set it and forget it. TDECU locked my savings account because I didn't make transactions on the account in over a month. When I tried to unlock it, I was stuck on the phone with a Nigerian woman who had a very strong accent and I could not understand her; however, she insisted that I could. I ended up failing my security questions because I could not understand her. So my account remained locked. When I eventually got it unlocked, I found that although I had spelled my mother's maiden name to her on the phone, the woman had misspelled my mother's maiden name in my account so that I'd ALWAYS get the answer wrong in the future. Finally, my wife and I went through an application and approval process to get that large balance moved into a certificate of deposit. TDECU never moved the money! A month later, was still sitting in a savings account at 0.01% when it should be in a CD earning 5%. RUN, don't walk, away from this institution. I don't know why there's so many bad reviews, I've never had a bad experience here. These people are so sweet and go above and beyond all the time. I couldn't get into my account and I got off work late, tried calling to fix it so I wouldn't have to go in right before they closed but we were having trouble on the phone. So they said to just come in and Christian helped me, I tried not to waste too much of there time but they had no problem and he fixed the problem quickly. I know some workers I always see when I go in, and they always remember me and everyone makes great convo it's just a great experience overall when I walk in:) read more

Honestly been with TDECU for many years, and I really miss the old tellers that worked here. This is now the third time while in the drive thru I get greeted with "Do you have a question?" Ummm no I would like to make a deposit. Also with the same older male teller, this happened twice, once he came to the drive thru and greeted me with a "Yes...?" Second time he just came to the window and just turned the speaker on and stared at me waiting for me to say something first. What type of bs is that... I'm in the customer service too and nothing ruins my mood more than people who are rude to you for no reason and make me feel like I'm bothering them by having them to do their job, what they are getting paid to do. I work at UH and, for some reason, TDECU reps are allowed to roam the buildings soliciting. No other business does this at UH. Well, they were promoting a new high-yield checking account that pays 3% on accounts up to 20k. Sounds great but when I went to the Cinco Ranch location, I was informed there are hoops to jump through, including using your debit card 20 times per month. I wrote a check on my WF account for the 20k, waited till the funds left my WF account, and started using the debit card - it's not easy to get to 20 debits, so one better get started. I failed to read the fine print. I needed to wait 11 days for the funds to become available. I racked up $224 in fees for using the debit card from the 3rd day to the 10th day, even though the check had cleared. A $4 coffee was costing me $36. Ouch. I was told by the manager that I should have informed TDECU that the check had cleared. What? Don't banks have some sort of software system that does this? I guess not TDECU. I was ultimately refunded $128, so I will be out only $96 for 2 weeks of banking. I have been telling everyone at UH my story and have come to find others who have even worse stories. I got off easy. Beware! Now, can we please keep them out of our offices? On another note, TDECU's account login is the most difficult and time consuming process I have ever encountered. In the likely event that you get locked out of your account (entering the correct username and password got me locked out), a "customer service" rep will proctor a 5 question multiple choice exam, with 5 possible answers for each question. If you fail the exam, as I did, you will be forced to physically enter a TDECU branch to reset your login password. The exam will be about your life, going back to your childhood, and it is time limited. It is somewhat akin to a game show; however, I suspect you will fail the exam as I did. The branch employees I spoke with said everyone complains about this exam. For what it is worth, my advice is to just bank somewhere else and live a happier life. read more

I have been at TDECU for over a year. They are very good at saving the customer money on car insurance, condo insurance. They cut my insurance in half. They have very minimum amounts to start a savings and or checking accounts. They have good wealth advisor program and they try real hard to please. They cant improve a lot on their drive through because of the existing set up. So it can be slow at times. The night deposit box can help on that. But I say again. They are worth checking out. I am very happy with my experiance with them. read more
