This vineyard was a great way to end your day in Waiheke Island. There were 4 vineyards in this area #7 on your hop on hop off tour. We chose this place even we walked for 15 minutes . The vineyard has a great view of the grapes, the rough road with lustrous trees to take pictures. At the end of the road this very quaint restaurant was so beautiful. Rustic feeling yet serene when you look around. The staff were very nice. The wine was excellent. Agnes was our attendant, she was nice but not too attentive. We have to looked for her to give our orders. Waited for so long. We tasted their Red snapper so divinely tasteful. The fish was cooked to perfection. The sauce was amazing . Mouthwatering. We got their freshly baked focaccia with olive oil roasted garlic and balsamic vinegar so good. The best Their house salad was excellent. I loved the way all the leafy vegetables weren't cut by a knife. It looked like peeled by hands. So fresh and crunchy when you bite. The wine was good. We got 3 different wine my choice the Shiraz. Even the wait was long I still give them 5 for the view and excellent cuisine. Kudos to the chef. read more

We visited this winery as part of a wine tour. The tasting was 4 wines, a white and 3 reds. My fav was the Te Monty Kokoro. Our guide was well versed in the history of the winery and the making of the wines. Husband isn't as much of a wine drinker so it was nice that our guide offered him some lighter, more mild wines to taste. The tasting room was smaller and very busy with a casual vibe. One of my favorite spots on the island! Waiheke is full of vineyards, so you maybe have trouble choosing which one to go to since they all offer great wines with beautiful views - however it is really the staff of Te Motu that make it a unique and enjoyable experience. There are locals and international staff, however every single staff member is extremely knowledgeable and eager to talk to you. Of course, the wine is delicious as well. My friends and I did the cheapest tasting which was good, however I would recommend getting the mid price tasting to make it worth your while. Just a heads up - if you are not a fan of red wine the cheapest tasting has majority red wine in it, but give it a try because it is great quality at Te Motu! Big fan of this winery! read more

This was by far one of our favorite wineries. It had the best wine. It also had a really cool vibe. It was a very family run feel. All the waiters knew a ton about where the grapes were from and the history of the wine. great selection of food and nice big tables under the shaded trees. I'd highly recommend going here for the fantastic wine and for the good vibes. read more

I ate here as an optional add on with a tour. Our tour guide said this was the best chef on the island. We ate in a beautiful garden which was the perfect setting for food and wine. We got a couple appetizers and I loved my lamb shoulder and wine. It was a very relaxed pace if you're not in a hurry. read more

I'm a red wine kinda gal. Never have been able to develop a taste for clear variety and I would like to officially blame my mother . I think she bottle fed me and both of my sisters red and so there we have it a family of 'red onlys.' Fast forward to the beautiful island of Waiheke which sounds like paradise and could possibly be in the running, due to the wine that grows and flows it's way around it. Te Motu is by far the most unassuming of the vineyards located between stops 5-8 on the Explorer Hop On Hop Off bus route. And to me? The best! Well, the best wine anyway and mainly because most of what they produce is my favorite color - red! Yep, they specialize in the life giving force known to so many. They also have a sweetheart of a pooch named Skipper who sleeps in the sun under the tables and on your feet and I secretly think may have been chomping on some of the grapes when no one was watching because he is just so laid back. The lovely lass who served us during the tasting and supplied us with the info we needed to make the best decisions was also fabulous. Hubby and I couldn't decide if she was American and had lived in NZ but she told us, despite her accent, she was indeed a Kiwi. She and we, highly recommend the wine that is named 'Patriarch' in Maori, it was simply divine and the 2013 was also quite enchanting. Do NOT miss Te Motu, it IS worth the hike from the other vineyards. read more

Phenomenal views and great wine! My wife and I opted for a tasting of 5 wines and ended up buying a bottle of "The Strip" cabernet-merlot blend. We absolutely loved sipping wine in the afternoon while enjoying a breathtaking view of rolling green hills, vineyards, and grazing alpacas. This was our first winery stop on the island. We walked from the bus stop up the gravel road and found it (7min walk). We were glad we didn't get tempted into stopping at one of the wineries along the way (although we did stop at them on the way back). Te Motu was our favorite one!!! The atmosphere is quiet and cozy. The vineyard is beautiful and the staff are very knowledgeable and down to earth. You can have a seat in the courtyard and they come to you for each tasting and describe their wine and it's history. They also mentioned they do a Rose on Sunday event where they put blankets in the vineyards and serve their Rose wine. Would love to make it back for that one day! read more

We arrived by bus on a hot, humid day and received a very friendly and hospitable welcome. The Te Motu Dunleavy wines are crisp and fresh; to be drunk young. We paired Riesling with a delicious snapper dish with a hint of Thai and Sauvignon blanc with a salmon salad. Our third companion raved about a Viognier with the semolina custard pudding. We sat outside on the veranda and, as mentioned, the service was efficient, pleasant and friendly. We will return. read more

This was a great vineyard. I enjoyed walking through their expansive grape crops and it was nice to speak in my native tongue while in New Zealand. The attendant was nice, and it was so laid back and scenic. One tip - use the regular bus and google maps to locate the entrance. Expect a bit of a walk, but it's worth it. The large bus that you can get from the ferry terminal doesn't drive 'directly' to this particular vineyard, but it does stop nearby. I'd save the money from the 'wine' bus and buy a day pass on the public one! More change for wine that way :) Note- they do not distribute their wine in the United States at this time, and the only way to get it is to buy directly from them! read more

I love wine and I especially love when you stumble across a vineyard that thinks only of the quality and flavor of the grape. If you go make sure to taste their flagship wine on the flip side of the tasting menu. The wine has a dimension and depth I would expect of 80 year old vines, not from something planted in the 80s. For frame of reference, this stacks up to the Ridge Monte Bello, and that is saying something. A wine lovers paradise. read more

After hearing so much hype about Stonyridge Wines and actually experiencing a disappointing tasting at Stonyridge, I was pleasantly surprised to find the rich quality and variety that Te Motu produces. It was a rainy day on the island. My husband and I walked here from Stonyridge, which is only about a 5-7 min walk. The estate itself is breathtaking. There was no one there when we went, but that wholly has to do with the fact that it was raining and not anything to do with the vineyard itself. We also went on a Monday afternoon. Our waiter gave us each a tasting, which only costs $20 for 5 tastings, and you can add an extra tasting of their signature wine (which I HIGHLY recommend you do) for another $5. He explained each of the wines and patiently answered all of my questions about the wine, the family, etc.. They're a very small producer, but make really quality wines. Their wines are built to age (2 years in the barrel and another few years in the bottle) and that is shown in the complexity, and depth of each of the wines. Even the "young" wine (Syrah 2015) had such easy drinkability. Each of the wines were consistent and did not disappoint. As a bordeaux type drinker, I was in love with the wines here. Ended up buying a bottle of the Te Motu 2009 (their signature wine) and the Te Motu Koroko 2013. They told us that the 2009 can age till 2025! Don't know if I'll be able to wait that long to drink this amazing wine again. The Shed was closed the day we went, but would love to try the restaurant next time around. They have a really nice seating area outside that overlooks the vineyard. read more

I took visitors from Madrid to Te Motu for a weekend lunch at The Shed. We didn't have a reservation but the staff very kindly accommodated us. Despite being accustomed to michelin star restaurants in Europe our guest could not stop raving about how good the food and wine at Te Motu is. It was flawless. The atmosphere is relaxed and we had an amazing afternoon here, staying for seconds of all our favourite dishes. You can then stroll easily along a path through the fields to many other wineries in the area and then down to Onetangi beach, which was a lovely thing to do after such a feast! This place is family owned and operated we were lucky enough to meet some of the family and learn some of the history of Te Motu during our wine tasting. Everyone was exceptionally helpful and friendly, and the food was certainly one of the best meals I have ever had. This was more than just food... it was an experience I would not miss. read more

This is a neat spot and the wine is a lot cheaper than at Stonyridge, which is across the way. Such a beautiful view! They have some tasty red wines whereas most of the other vineyards have white wines that they feature, so that was great. We bought a red blend wine that was tasty. Their wine flights were very cheap. They only sell wines that they make, whereas the other vineyards will sell wines from everywhere around and hardly have any wines they make themselves. This was a very unique vineyard. I also appreciated that they are open every day, even in the winter when most other vineyards are closed. read more
